Chapter 20We have only to wait fifteen minutes before the arrival of Doctor Poullet. A metallic scraping noise as he parks his car facing the wrong way, alongside an iron railing, heralds his arrival. I can't bear to look. Paul laughs. “There soon won't be a single bit of his car without a scrape or a dent,” he remarks. “How long can he continue driving like that before he loses his licence or worse, injures someone?” “Well he hasn't hurt anyone yet,” I state, defending my friend. “There are worse drivers than Poullet on the road. At least he's sober.” Poullet gets out of his car, muttering under his breath as he waddles towards us. “Well, what are you waiting for? I don't have all day. Show the dog the rabbit,” he says. We lead him into the studio and I point to the body on the floor
