I snatched the phone out of her hand before she could take a single peek, before her eyes even finished widening. Her fingers were still frozen mid-air when I pulled away from her.
“Who is it?” she demanded, her voice already sounding suspicious.
I didn’t bother answering. I got off the bed so fast the mattress lifted behind me and stormed out of the room before she could spit out another accusation.
Once I was out. I sucked in a breath and checked the phone.
“I understand Sir” she texted back.
“What are you doing?” I asked leaning against the railing,
“About to rest” she answered.
“I don’t want to bother you then, Good night dear” I texted back.
A minute had passed and there was no response from her, she was probably busy and would answer in no time.
So I took a walk in the garden to clear my head, to understand why Mr Golde walked out earlier.
I know the presentation was flawless but I was more worried about what father would say.
He is yet to arrive home.
Once I was done with the walk, I checked my phone and she still hadn’t replied.
I still waited watching the moon reflect over the house until an hour passed.
Then I knew that she wasn't going to respond.
I went back to my room to find Rebecca already sleeping, of course it could be an act to let me get my guard down.
I hid the phone under my pillow and then dozed off.
My eyes opened to a bright new morning, the first thing I thought of was my phone, I quickly reached for it under the pillow, luckily Rebecca hadn’t figured out where it was.
Neither was she in the room.
I had hoped for a reply from Diana, it doesn't matter if it came this morning, but there was still nothing.
I tossed the phone back on the bed and went into the shower, once I was done, I prepared for work.
I stepped down the stairs to find Rebecca coming out of the kitchen, that was a strange sight because she never cooks, not because she doesn’t want to but because she is a terrible cook.
Atleast Lily was a better cook than she is, Rebecca’s food tasted like poison despite the cooking classes she enrolled in. She always ruin every delicacy.
“Son, come and join us for breakfast” my mother asked, she had taken her seat at the dinning table, her purse right next to her which meant she was about to step out too.
“Rebecca made your favorite, spaghetti and meatballs” she added.
Rebecca stood by the dinning table with a smile on her face, she placed a plate on the table where I was supppsed to seat.
“I’m not hungry” I replied.
The smile on her face faded.
“But I spent all morning making these for you, can’t you atleast have a taste?” She asked.
I turned to Mother, she had her phone glued to her face.
“I said I wasn't hungry” I responded.
The look on her face changed into a furious look,
“why are you behaving like…” She paused and swallowed the words that were about to come of her mouth.
Her face pulls back into a smile, “it’s okay, I can always put it in the fridge” she replied.
It felt odd that she would accept so easily, but when I turned, I met a figure I was trying to avoid.
Now I understood.
“Father” my voice trembles as I found him standing by the door. He had a briefcase in his hand and a grim look on his face.
“My office” he ordered and walked upstairs.
I followed behind him wishing I had left earlier.

I arrive at work at exactly 11am, there I found her in her seat, sorting through the files.
It took a minute for her to notice me standing there, just silently watching her.
“Good morning Sir” she greeted.
“Morning” I responded.
I moved closer to her, “I brought you something” I showed her the cake package in my hand.
I had taken the time to stop by the bakery, I felt bad for almost scaring her yesterday that i needed to make peace with her for it.
Anything to see that smile on her face,
“Thank you so much Sir” she replied and stretched her hand to take it.
Her fingers softly grazed mine, they were warm and tender, the feeling of silk grazing against my skin.
“It’s nothing” I smiled back.
Her phone rang and she immediately picked it, dropping the cake on the desk, it felt like it was my heart that she has dropped.
I waited patiently until she was done with the call before I spoke again.
Only then did I realize that she had access to her phone, and She hadn’t returned my text since last night.
I initially thought she hadn't seen it but that wasn't the case.
“Why didn’t you respond to my text last night?” I demanded.
“What?” she responded.
I had waited for a reply from her, even at several sleep intervals, I would check my phone, I was so excited to see her response this morning but there was nothing.
“Why didn’t you reply my text from last night?” I repeated sternly.
