Diana pov:
“Why didn’t you answer my text last night” he asked again. It’s not like I hadn’t seen it. It just I didn’t care.
I knew he would be waiting for a response and I found pleasure in keeping him waiting. Making him think that if he waited a few seconds later, if he held back on his sleep, I just might text him back.
He must have checked his phone on different sleep intervals.
“I didn’t see it” I responded, “I slept early last night”
He nodded his head and then stuffed his hand in his pocket, he clearly had something else to say, enough to make him linger.
“So I was wondering,” hd rubbed his neck, “if you are free tonight?” he inquired.
“Is there an emergency?” I asked.
“No” he shook his head.
“There is no emergency, I just wondered if I could take you out for a nice dinner, you know to discuss business. Strictly business” he stated.
I smiled.
If it were business then we would be speaking about it in a meeting or in his office. We both knew it had nothing to do with business.
He had been prepping this moment for long.
“Uhmm” I gave a long sigh.
“Well, I will be visiting my Grandmother tonight, the hospital called me earlier this morning to pay her a visit. I had already promised that I would be there”
“Oh” he replied, looking disappointed, like I could care less about the look on his face, there would be no meetings between us until I plan it.
“I am so sorry about that”
“No, it’s fine” he confirmed.
“I can call the manager so that you can have the meeting with him” I suggested grabbing the phone.
A f*****g tease.
“No” he reached out his hand to stop me, “the meeting has been postponed. You don’t need to bother him about that, I am sure he has a lot on his hand” he advised as he took a step back.
“Well, I can check his schedule and see when he would be free. Won’t you love that?” I teased him even further, knowing well that he wanted to spend time with me.
“No, you don’t need to do that, just visit your Grandmother” he walked slowly to the door looking back at each dying second.
“And send my regards to her” he said and finally entered his office.
“Sure sir” I responded laughing as I took my seat.

I arrived at Rheagar’s apartment at exactly 5 p.m., the fifth floor of a sleek penthouse overlooking the city. The moment I rang the doorbell, it swung open.
“Diana!” he shouted, his voice bursting with excitement.
I didn’t even look at him. I brushed past his shoulder and stormed inside, dropping my bag and throwing myself onto the couch.
“I swear, I could strangle him,” I groaned, burying my face in my hands.
Rheagar shut the door, his amused face was clear as he spoke.
“Well,” he said sarcastically, “I guess we can start with that.”
“Do you know he wanted to have dinner with me tonight?” I ranted.
“Oh really” Rheagar answered in a high pitched tone, I knew he was mocking me.
“Don’t start” I cautioned him. He took his seat in front of me and smiled,
“Good evening Rheagar,
well Good evening Diana.
How was your day?
My day was good and how was yours?,
oh it was nice” Rheagar played the scenario in his head, completely bothered that I didn’t bother to greet him earlier.
I ignored it.
“Do you know he bought a cake for me, I don’t even like raspberry cake, I threw that s**t in the trash. Who does he think he is asking me why I didn’t reply his text.
I’m not his damn wife, he should asked his murderious wife those questions.
That f*****g bastard”
I was fuming, my ears felt hot as I spoke.
“Alcohol or water?” Rheagar cut in, stopping my rant.
“Alcohol,” I snapped. “I need to cool my nerves.”
“Alcohol it is.” He disappeared into the kitchen and returned moments later with two bottles of wine and a corkscrew, setting them firmly on the table between us.
After two shots, my body felt light, almost detached, like I was floating just above myself. I let out a long sigh, the tension draining from my shoulders.
“Oh I needed that” I sigh in relief.
Rheagar dropped his glass on the table,
“I’ve been doing some digging on him,” Rheagar said, his tone shifting. “And I found something you need to see.”
I followed him into his tech room, his sanctuary. The space was crowded with monitors and cables, screens glowing in the dim light. The live feed of Gaston’s office was in display, it was empty.
“I traced his bank accounts,” Rheagar continued. “He has a joint account with Rebecca, but that’s not the real issue.”
I pulled a chair from the wall and dropped into it, my spine straightening as my focus sharpened.
“What is the issue?” I asked, my voice suddenly tight.
“He has a second account,” Rheagar said. “That’s where he launders his money. I traced the transfers to a shell company tied to a Swiss account, one that’s registered under your name.”
I blinked suddenly, shock snapping through me. I had underestimated Gaston, badly.
“That’s not possible,” I said. “We only met weeks ago. There’s no way he could’ve used my name.”
Rheagar focused his gaze back to the screen, an account window filled the screen.
“Your real name,” he said quietly. “The account was opened under Lily.”
My breath caught.
It felt like stepping onto a gold mine I never knew existed. In that moment, phase two began forming in my head
Right there on the screen sat an account holding over a hundred million dollars.
“You are up to something” Rheagar said noticing the smile on my face,
“Yes, since the money is in my name, it mights as well be mine.” I answered.
I stayed for a few more hours before finally deciding to leave, Rheagar walked me to the door.
“Diana” he said my name softly.
“Yes”
“On Saturday is your funeral” he stated with faint eyes.
I had almost forgotten about that.
About the cruel death that I faced at the hands of Gaston and Rebecca.
The two people that I trusted most in the world.
After my death, the police searched for my body but it was presumed that my body was burned till ashes, there was nothing left to bury.
The casket will be empty.
It gave Gaston the perfect cover, there was no body to perform autopsy which meant their crimes had washed away.
“Thanks” I nodded weakly then waved him goodbye.
