It was an uncanny moment that a job opening for a secretary to Gaston had opened up, it almost felt like fate was working on my side. With Rebecca being out of the picture as his former secretary who turned wife, the spot was finally open. I had attended the interview and gave it my best, it’s been a while since I did that kind of thing since I was always at the other end of the table, I like to think I had aced the interview but I couldn’t stop checking my phone to see if I would get any calls or messages. I’m seated with Rheagar in the room, while the phone rests on the bed, our eyes have been on it for minutes. The phone rings and I grabbed it with haste, j have never wanted something so badly as I want this position, it was the foundation of my plans and I needed this to work badly. “Hello, is this Miss Diana?” A voice asked. “Yes” “We are calling to inform you…” I took a deep breath, bracing myself for what could make or break me, I hadn’t thought about a plan b, all because I believed this would work. I had all my faith in it. “That you have passed the final interview, you can begin work next week and please come with the rest of yuur credentials” she instructed. “Alright, thank you” I said and then dropped the phone, I could feel my heart beating so fast that it might explode. “Did you get it?” Rheagar leaned closer to the bed, studying the expression on my face. “Yes, I got it” I squealed happily. The room erupted in a series of scream, a part of me couldn’t believe that I had actually gotten the job, I have never had anything work so easily for me in my life, but this… This was the cherry on top. “I got it” I repeated, I still couldn’t believe it. “You got it” Rheagar nodded, making sure that I believed it. “I got it?” “Wait a minute…” Rheagar said and pinched me so hard my skin turned red. “What the hell was that for?” I demanded rubbing my skin. “Incase you didn’t believe it” he replied. “I got the job!!!” I screamed in his face so loud that he fell off the bed. He managed to pick himself up, “We need to celebrate, how about we have dinner tonight? What do you think?” He requested. “Definitely, bills on you because I am broke” I replied. “Ofcourse” he nodded and grabbed him things to leave. After he left I stood in front of the mirror, my cheeks were red from all the excitement, it was like being a teenager again, getting your dream job, I always wondered what that felt like because as soon I was done with college, I began working so that I could clear of my parents debt. I never had time for a dream job, I had a company to run and mouths to feed. I was an adult before I knew it. It’s evening and time for the dinner, I wore a beautiful black dress with straps at the back, I arrived at the venue, it had a beautiful setting the nice view of the road. I took my seat at the spot Rheagsr had booked for us, one look at the menu and I knew I had to wait for him before I placed my order. So I sat there for a little while. “I’m sorry I’m late” a voice said from behind me then a man appeared in my view, he took his seat in front of me. At first I thought he wasn’t speaking to me, but when I looked close at him, he looked really familiar. I tried to juggle my memory to where I had met hom, then its clicks. It’s Melvin, the leader of the basketball team in high school, my first crush. For a little minute I was scared that he might recognize me but then I remembered that my whole face has changed, even my voice, there was nothing that reminded me of the old person i was. Even after several years, he still looks ravishing, even hotter than before. I gulp down as I stared at him checking the menu, i knew I had to pull myself together, he was just a crush and nothing more. I never got the chance to confess my feelings to him. He was from a well-to do family and I was from an average family struggling to keep their business up. We only spoke a few times throughout high school, until it got to a point we barely talk to each other. Not only was he my crush but he was also Rebecca’s. We would argue for weeks on who would get him first, neither of us did. Rebecca only wanted him because I wanted him, it took Gaston to realize that. “I’m sorry you have the wrong table?” I tell him. “Huh? Aren’t you Diana?” He asked. My eyes narrowed when he mentioned my name, “Yes” I nodded. “You are here on a blind date, our parents hooked us up” he says and I cool down. “I’m sorry, but my parents are dead. Yes, my name is Diana but I am not here on a blind date, I am here to have dinner with my cousin. Perhaps you have the wrong Diana” I say. I can see the way he looks at me, the familiar look in his eyes, then he looks around and they are barely any feee tables around. “I guess I got stood up then” he brings his eyes back to me, I was the only single woman in the room. The rest were with their partners. “Pardon my manners, my name is Melvin” he stretched his hand to me. I looked at it but refused to move, the last thing I wanted was another man sparking another flame in my heart, Gaston had already caused enough damage and with him, he might be easy to get to me because I once had a crush on him. “I’m sorry but I’m not interested” I replied sternly. He smiles, a little dimple appears at the right side of his face. He just sat there staring at me, in a way that makes my body on fire, with no intention to leave, I guess I finally know what his type is like, women who looked like me. I grabbed my phone and dialed Rheagar’s number but it’s switched off, it’s already been an hour so I can assume he isn’t coming. I grabbed my purse and stood up when he held my hand, “I’m sorry” he says. “It’s not your fault” I replied. If Gaston and I had broken up on normals terms and he hadn’t plotted to kill me, I know I would be all over him but I can’t do that, I can’t afford a distraction. I pull my hand away from his and just walk away, I know he is still staring at me as I leave, because I can see his reflection on the window as I walk out.
