Lily POV: A bright light shone on my face causing me to open my eyes, i took in sight of curtains, and ECG machine and the loud sound of constant beeping in my ears. My whole body was burnt including my face, I had blisters and cuts and drips on almost every part of my body. I tried to adjust my back when a sharp pain course through me causing me to scream to the point of losing all air. The nurse heard my scream and rushed into my room, once she saw me, she shut the door again and ran out. In a minute, a doctor rushed into the room, dark brown hair, brown eyes. He looked stunned. “You’re alive” he stared at me, “it’s a miracle” he continued. I wouldn’t call this a miracle when I could barely recognize myself, I had lost my identity and my will to live. “How long?” I questioned. He was quick enough to understand, “You have been out for three months” he replied. At first I thought it was a Joke, because it felt like almost yesterday that I was betrayed by my fiance and my best friend, who burnt me to death but when I saw the news on the tv screen in front of me, I believed him. The weather forecast had shown how much time I had lost being in a vegetative state. Maybe it was a miracle that I survived. “We had estimated you being back in a year, you have exceeded our expectations” the doctor announced, like I should be happy about that. “I don’t die easily” I responded with pain. I stared at my damaged body, it hurts to see me this way. I wanted to cry but the tears weren’t coming out, perhaps my tear gland was damaged by the fire. Something on the screen then caught my attention, It was Gaston and Rebecca, the news announced the celebration of their wedding which happened a day ago. “Now that you are awake” I could hear the doctor say, “I would suggest you perform plastic surgery to change the way you look” he stated. “They are married?” I said in a frenzy, “Ah yes, the famous couple, they got married yesterday. It was the talk of the whole town” he answered. There was a bright smile on Rebecca’s face, like all her dreams had come through, she had stolen my fiancé, my life and my wedding. “About the surgery…” I turned to the doctor in a rage. “Yes” he nodded, knowing that would mean more money in his pocket for him. “I’ll do it” I said and he smiled. After an hour of carefully selecting a new face, I was taken to the operation room, where they spent 17 hours on a full on-body surgery on me. And while those hours were past, all I could think of was taking my revenge on them, to make them pay for what they had done to me. To make them wish they had never crossed me. It took a while for me to heal fully, in that time span, my Cousin Rheagar had been keeping me up with all the information I needed about them. He was the only one I could trust, his words gave me encouragement and a reason to keep fighting. I’m standing in front of the mirror in my house, My cousin Rheagar sits on the bed flipping through the fashion magazines. I looked different, beautiful. I knew it would take some time to get used to my new face and body, I had made some enhancement to it, my breasts were perky and my ass round. “How about Diana?” Rheagar suggested, we have been thinking of a name for myself for ten minutes. “Diana” I echoed the name, it sounded nice in my ears, I had wanted Delilah, it was the last name I thought of but Diana might do better. “I like it” I responded. “Then Diana it is” he jumps slamming the magazine on the bed. “Do you think he would recognize me?” A worried expression drew on my face, I was scared that there was no distinction between my old face and the new one, or perhaps my brain hadn’t registered my new look completely. Rheagar looked at me like I was mad, even I couldn’t recognize myself, how much more Gaston. “Yes, ofcourse he would notice that perfect body.” He teased, then walked towards me. Placing his palm on my shoulders, he spun me to face the mirror, “Look at yourself girl, even I wouldn’t recognize you, you have changed.” His words made me feel more confident. I wanted my plan to be spotless with no faults. “I want him to pay for all that he did to me, I want him to suffer every single minute, feeling the pain of what I went through” I cursed out. With his thumb, he raised my head high, “He will pay for what he did to you, our plan is full proof. I have been keeping tabs on him and he has already cheated on his wife thrice” he let out. “Their marriage is just a year and he cheated thrice” it didn’t shock me that Gaston would cheat on Rebecca, after all they did so that they could be together. That could been my fate too, after our engagement, Gaston had always told me he didn’t want me to work and would love for me to be a full housewife, to take care of his kids and his home. I thought he meant the best for me so I was excited about it, I was so foolish then. “This should be easy then” I straightened my shoulders and he cheered me on. It was finally my time. *** A year had passed and I was completely healed, and discharged, I returned back to the country to start my life all over again. It was painful to start from square one, especially after I had built myself a whole empire, then all of a sudden, it was all gone, because of a man. I took a taxi from the airport, and the car happened to pass by a familiar road I was accustomed to. “Take a right here” I requested and the driver did. I arrived at my Company, the building still looked the same but the name had changed, what used to be my family name, Theo’s Cooperation, was changed into Gomez Cooperation, with Gaston as the CEO. I used to have so much pride seeing my name on the wall, knowing that I fought so hard to get the company to where it was. All that was gone. While I kept staring, the entrance door opens and Rebecca and Gaston walks out, Rebecca had her hand around Gaston’s arm, holding him tightly like he could disappear, a smile on her face as she kept whispering into his ears, Gaston on the other kept a straight face as they waited for the car. My hands tighten around my bag, my whole countenance darkened upon seeing them. I had not expected them to be the first people I see once I arrived. It made me so mad that I let myself almost get killed by them. Rebecca kept on laughing as she whispered into his ears, “Laugh all you want for now, soon you will be crying tears” I whispered. Gaston opened the door for her and she got in, then he followed. I watched the car drive away, for a second I thought about following them but I knew exactly where they were going, Home. So I turned my head forward, “Let’s go” I ordered the driver and he began moving. I arrived at the hotel I had booked earlier, got to my room and crashed in my bed for the night. The next time I woke up, it was morning. I had breakfast and prepared to start my whole day, if I was going to make them pay for what they had done then I might as well have all the resources I needed. I still had some money that I had saved up in my account, 20 million dollars, and I intend to go to the bank to collect it. “We have a slight issue” the cashier tells me. “What are you talking about?” I demanded, wishing that the worst hadn’t happened yet. I had explained to them about my whole situation and fixed the issue with my identity. “The account has been wiped clean” she explained. “What?” “How did that happen?” “When did that happen?” I inquired. I was certain that no one knew about the account because it was just for emergencies. She ran it through her system, “Well, your husband came here and he requested that the account be closed and he withdrew all the money, he even showed us a certificate of death backing up his claim” she replies. There were so many things in my head right now, did she just say husband? Was she referring to Gaston? And how did he find out about the account, how long did he know about it? “Please, there has to be something you can do to retrieve the money?” I inquired. “I’m sorry but the money was transferred through legal means” “I didn’t consent to it” I yelled, that was my last hope of starting something and now I am just realizing that Gaston had bleed me dry. “I’m sorry ma’am, there is nothing we can do” she says looking pitifully at me. Of course I was pitiful, I managed to escape death and start my life all over again but then I just found out that I was left with nothing, not even a single scent to my name. Gaston took everything, my life, a f*****g insurance I knew absolutely nothing about until the brink of death, he sold my house and everything that was in it, took my company and finally took my emergency funds. He took everything. That bastard had been planning my desth for a while, this wasn’t a spring of the moment thing. He had plotted on me all these while and I just didn’t know. I kept my head down as I walked out of the bank, feeling defeated, once again Gaston had won against me.
