Chapter 1: The Betray
“Wait… Who is that?”
Murmurs rippled through the grand business gala like wildfire. Champagne glasses froze midair. Necks craned. Whispers turned into gasps as Nora stepped into the glittering ballroom.
“She looks like a pig in silk.”
“Who invited her?”
“She can’t possibly think she belongs here.”
The crowd's judgment sliced through her like knives, but Nora kept walking. Her long, navy gown clung to her full figure—not designer, not flashy, just simple and elegant. Yet to them, it was laughable. To them, she was laughable.
But Nora didn’t care. Her heart was pounding—not from shame, but from hope. For once, she’d come to stand beside her husband. Carson Williams—CEO, billionaire, and the man she had sacrificed everything for.
Tonight was supposed to be their night.
She spotted him on stage, flawless in his tailored tux, smiling at the elite like a king on his throne. Her heart softened. That’s my husband.
“Thank you, everyone, for coming,” Carson said, his voice booming through the hall, proud and confident. “I’m truly grateful. Tonight marks a new chapter for me—for us. And I want to thank the woman who stood by me... my beautiful wife.”
Nora's lips trembled with emotion. He’s finally acknowledging me, she thought, tears welling up in her eyes.
“To Tina,” Carson declared, raising his glass. “My strength, my heart, my wife.”
Nora froze.
Tina?
Laughter erupted. The spotlight turned toward Tina—Nora’s best friend—glowing in a golden dress, her hand proudly wrapped around Carson’s arm. She waved to the crowd, flashing a ring Nora had never seen before.
The room spun.
Nora’s feet moved before her brain could catch up. She staggered toward the stage, heart breaking with every step. “Carson?” Her voice was barely a whisper.
Carson’s smile faltered as she approached. His brows furrowed, then smoothed out into cool indifference. “I’m sorry… do I know you?”
Nora blinked. “What?” Her voice cracked. “Carson… what kind of joke is this? I’m your wife.”
Gasps echoed. Phones raised. Whispers returned like venom.
“She’s insane.”
“Does she need help?”
“Why is she humiliating herself like this?”
Tina leaned in with a smirk and rolled her eyes dramatically. “Security, please.”
Nora turned to her, voice trembling. “Tina, tell them. Tell them you’re my best friend! You know me—tell them the truth!”
Tina laughed cruelly. “Lady, I don’t know what fantasy you’re living in, but maybe you should go back there.”
Nora’s knees buckled slightly. Her vision blurred. “You… I trusted you. I gave you everything. I asked you to accompany my husband to events I couldn’t attend—and this is what you do?”
Carson stepped forward, eyes cold. “You need to leave before you cause a scene.”
Nora’s voice rose, raw and broken. “A scene? You’re the one causing a scene, Carson! You deny me because I’m no longer the size two trophy wife you wanted?”
More murmurs. Someone whispered, “She has no shame.”
Another: “She probably just wants attention.”
Nora turned to the crowd, eyes brimming with tears. “I sold my inheritance to save his company. I gave up my dreams, my body, my youth—for him. And now I’m… nothing?”
Tina scoffed. “Someone get her out of here already.”
Carson pulled his phone from his pocket. “You’re embarrassing yourself.”
Nora laughed bitterly, tears streaking her face. “Embarrassing? No, Carson. You embarrassed yourself when you forgot who held you up when you were drowning in debt. You embarrassed yourself the moment you stood here and replaced me with her.”
Gasps grew louder. Camera flashes burst like lightning.
Carson stepped closer and hissed under his breath, “You should’ve stayed home like I told you.”
You’ve both betrayed me…” she whispered, barely audible.
Carson’s eyes narrowed. “You need to leave. Now. Or I’ll have security throw you out.”
She shook her head, tears streaming freely now. “No. I’m not leaving until you tell them the truth. I gave you everything. I stood by you when everyone else left. I saved you.”
The whispers in the room grew louder.
“She’s delusional.”
“Carson would never marry that.”
“Someone needs to stop this.”
“I think you should leave before you embarrass yourself further,” Carson said sharply.
“I am not leaving!” Nora shouted, her voice slicing through the noise. “You think because I gained weight, because I don’t fit into your perfect little image anymore, you can erase me? I’m still your wife!”
Just then, the double doors burst open. Two suited security guards stepped in and marched toward her with chilling precision.
“No… No, wait!” Nora stepped back, panic rising. “I said I’m not leaving!”
The crowd parted eagerly.
The guards reached her and grabbed her by both arms.
“Let me go!” she screamed, thrashing wildly. “Leave me alone! Carson—Carson, please! You know this isn’t right!”
He turned away.
Tears blurred her vision as she struggled, her gown tearing at the shoulder, revealing more than she ever intended. Laughter erupted. Phones came out. Flashes of light stung her eyes.
“Stop!” she cried. “Please!” Carson!!!!!!!
