15.) Dinner for Two

1840 Words
I was on cloud nine. A kiss on the cheek was not much but I could not express in any way how happy I was. This is a step into our future together. I wanted to be in her life always and she was letting me back in. As we drive through her small little town, I look around and notice how quaint it was. This is where Ivy, Aubrie, and Xander grew up. Hopefully, not everybody here was like Michael. God, I hated Michael. It took every fiber of my being not to punch him. I knew Ivy didn't want me to cause a scene at the hospital but I was so close. The things I would do to that man, the pain I would inflict, it was all so tempting. Ivy was my treasure. I would do anything for her. “Turn here.” she says and in an excited voice and I smile at this. I couldn't help but smile when I was with her, especially when I knew I saw a little bit of old Ivy coming to the surface. “Are you ready for a mouth orgasm?”  She says with a sly grin as I park and I nod, rubbing my hand together.   ”Oh, it's that good huh?” I asked playfully. She nods and jumps out of the car making me laugh to myself as I stepped out and grab her hand to walk to the entrance. As we walk inside, you could tell it was a locally owned business, it was quaint and didn't seem to be very mainstream. A man greets us with a wholesome hello and asks how many were seating. Ivy throws up a number two on her hand and he nods grabbing to menus and walking us to a booth. “This looks very cute Ivy.” I say as we sit down and she nods with child-like enthusiasm. She looks around and I can see the nostalgia rising on her face.”You seem to really like it here, any special memories?” I asked her and the man returns asking for our drink orders. I go to order water but Ivy insists on me trying the sweet tea, saying it was a classic here. The man leaves with a smile as he leaves us with our menus and I open it to look around. “ I used to come here every year for my birthday. Mom, Bruce, and Dad would all make sure to tell them that it was my birthday because they sing to you and they embarrass you by putting a big Sombrero on your head. This is one of the few nicer restaurants we have in town, the rest are mostly things like fast food or little diners. Oh, we have to go to Chaney's for breakfast one morning. It's a little diner I used to go to with Xander on the weekends.” I smile at her rushed words and laugh a little to myself she blushes and brushes her hair behind her ear. “Sorry I guess I just got really excited...” I shake my head and reach for her hand. She looks up at me with a confused look.”I care about whatever you care about if you want to go to Chaney's let's go to Chaney's I'm sure it's delicious.” I saying she smiles and looks down. It grew silent between us and I realize I haven't been looking at the menu. “ So what should I get? You seem to know what's good.” She scanned her menu with a concentrated look. After a moment she turns it around and points to something called Arroz Texano. I nod at this and just as I pulled the menu away, the waiter returns and we order our food. He gives us a bowl of chips and salsa and once he leaves I notice Ivy reaches for the salt shaker and then she stops. “Do you mind if I put salt in the salsa I promise it's really good.” she says in a shy tone and I nod chuckling. “Of course do whatever I'm sure it's good.” she nods and sprinkles a little bit in the salsa bowl.  She begins talking but I can't find myself listening. All I could do was stare at her. she was so beautiful. she didn't have any makeup on arm yet she looked absolutely flawless. I could tell she recently got my haircut because her hair was a bit shorter than usual, but I liked it. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a cropped large t-shirt. She never even had to try. Everything about her was just simply beautiful. “What do you think?” She asked me and I'm snapped out of my daze.”Sounds great, but what am I agreeing to? Sorry I was thinking.”  She rolls her eyes and chuckles a bit. “ I said can we run by the store before we get a hotel?” she asks and I nod.  “Yeah, of course, I have to grab some things anyways  because I didn't pack anything.”  Her eyes widen and she looks down while playing with your fingers. “I'm sorry.” I furrow my eyebrows and look at her, ”What are you sorry for?”  She shrugs and I can tell that she knew exactly what she wanted to say but was trying to find the words that could put the right effort behind it. “For everything in the car,  for the party, for dragging you out here, for everything really… actually, now that I think of it I'm not sorry. I'm not going to be sorry until you explain to me the situation with Tami.” Her attitude shifted in an instant while she talked but I understood. I nod, smiling at her in an effort to make myself feel better. “I understand completely how about we talk tonight at the hotel?” I asked and she nods as our food is set in front of us.  The rest of our meal was in silence for a while, until Ivy started sharing old memories. She looked as though she really missed this place. But I knew this place also haunted her, but right now for a short moment, she was focusing on the good. A few different times she saw people she knew, but she didn't make an effort to speak to them. “They wouldn't recognize me anyway. I'm thinner and covered in tattoos and I'm pretty sure nobody wants to be associated with me from this town.”  “You know honestly you have the best revenge for these people. You're a best selling author. What are these people Millers? I think you're doing better for yourself.”  All she does is smile at my words and we continue to eat once we're done and I pay for the check and we ride over to the nearest store. I grab all of my necessary toiletries and a few shirts, jeans, pairs of underwear, and socks to get me by this week. I was severely underprepared but it was okay, I just wanted to be here for Ivy. She grabbed a bottle of alcohol while we were there and said it was for a little fun later. all of our conversations were short and I knew that I was growing closer and closer to having to tell her what happened.  Would she think I was a monster? I killed a man. A little voice in my head argued that she went to prison for attempted murder so she had no right to judge. But I knew that was different. Well, actually self-defense and third-party self-defense can be a justifiable cause in court, right? Telling her this was going to change everything, I knew that, but I had to establish that trust we have in our relationship. Being with her is more important and having her know that I would never cheat on her. She deserves more than that. She was a queen, she is my everything. Never have I been so infatuated with a person. She was everything my heart desired. A year of being lonely, a year of wanting her in my arms. This was all too coincidental that she came back into my life at this time. I needed her so badly. The true test today will be to see if she actually loves me and if she can take my baggage now. We leave the store and arrive at the hotel. It was very small but it didn't look too bad. We walk into the office and there is a little old woman working at the desk. “How may I help you all?” she asked in a tired voice and I smile. “Can I get a room for the next five nights?” The woman nods and I noticed Ivy's eyes wide beside me. She leans in and whispers to me, “Wyatt, that's a lot of money are you sure?” I nod and the lady looks up from her computer. “Would you like a single or a double?” She asks and I smile. “ A double please.” she nods and steps around the counter. “You're just in luck we have one double left.” She walks us to our room and opens the door.  I smile as we step in and the lady enters the room. “ Oh, Fiddlesticks. No!”  she says in an angry tone and I raise a brow as she walks farther into the room. I turned the light on and I notice water creeping out of the bathroom. “Well, it seems the bathroom is flooding. I'm so sorry folks. Let me run back to the office and I'll grab you a single room. I'll make it a king for you, no extra charge at all.”  She pulls her phone out of her pocket and starts cursing up a storm. As she leaves the room I step out of the room and close the door. I notice Ivy is shifting her weight back and forth on her feet  She looked to be nervous, probably from the idea of us sleeping in a bed together. I wonder if she'll let me hold her to fall asleep. That sounds absolutely perfect right about now. The lady returns and asked us to follow her as she continues her conversation on the phone. We walk down four rooms and come to our room with a large king-size bed and red silk sheets. “ This is the honeymoon suite y'all I'm very sorry for the inconvenience I hope y'all have a good night let me know if you need anything.”  I smile and nod in her direction while I set my things down. Ivy does the same and I sigh. It was time. Now or never.
