That’s how crazy I am for you.
If only she took those words seriously, then she wouldn’t have been in this situation right now.
Eloise felt her hands curl up in fist just by thinking about it.
Demons who are blessed with angelic faces are the most dangerous kinds. Why didn’t she see that through? Why? Was she blinded by love that she became naïve and gullible?
“Mom, Uncle Pierce is here,” Eliot said breaking her off of her trance.
She suddenly smiled when she saw Eliot walking towards her.
“Go now then, see you later,” Eloise said as she hands him his backpack.
“Thanks, mom,” He said.
He kissed her cheeks lightly before running out of the house to go with his Uncle Pierce.
Eloise was left alone in the house again. She continued cleaning and when she finished, she looked at the time and saw that it was already eleven am. It took her two hours to clean the whole house, not bad.
Back then when she was still not that used to it, it would take her a full eight hours to finish cleaning. It was tiring but very much worth it.
She suddenly felt her head throb for a few minutes. It was not as strong as before but it still hurts.
This was the aftereffect of being a demon. When Leon transformed her into one, she kept having headaches. At first, they were strong and she’d pass out but Leon explained that it was just her body adjusting to the demon blood. Her body was not that strong enough to withstand strong demon blood like Leon’s but she was strong enough not to die if this isn’t considered as dead.
After leaving Leon, the headaches continued until the pain was reduced. She knew that soon enough her body would completely be used to being a demon. After all, twelve years passed after that incident. There’s no way it would take longer than that.
When the throbbing stopped, she got ready for her job. There was no time to lose.
After escaping from Leon and giving birth to Eliot, she acquired a local café and bakery job. It was owned by her friend, Jessica, who kindly took her and Eliot in. At that time, she was 5 months pregnant but a demon baby is a lot different from a human baby. A demon baby stays in the mother’s womb for a whole year, unlike human babies who only stay for 9 months. But, the belly of the mother would not swell up until it was 6 months while in humans, it takes 12 to 16 weeks for the belly to show up.
She had to lie to Jessica about her being 2 months pregnant so when her due date came in, it was at exactly nine months, the perfect time when a human child is born.
It was going smoothly until Eliot came out with horns and wings just like his dad’s but a lot smaller version. So even though the energy left in Eloise’s body was drained, she still used it to hide his horns and for the doctors or anyone else who had seen it, to forget it.
She had been a demon for two years, enough to practice dark magic. She’s still not a pro like Leon or everyone else, but she knows her capabilities and how to use them to her advantage. She actually didn’t think she would be able to escape from Leon but here she was, free.
Although she has a feeling that it would not be for too long.
She had managed to erase Leon’s memories of her, from her first life up ‘til now. She learned how to do it without others bringing them back but herself, and judging by the situation that they are in right now, she would never bring those memories back.
She has a life now. A life with Eliot and they are contented, but… Leon might find them. Leon is strong and she’s still scared to know that her magic wasn’t enough for him. She was taking every precaution at heart. She placed a spell on her and Eliot that masks their soul, heart, and smell. And even if Leon stares at Eliot, he wouldn’t be able to see a similarity between them. Eloise made sure that Eliot is a lot different from Leon in terms of the human form, but those things couldn’t be changed in demon form. They can’t be masked so the only thing for them to do is stay on their human form.
They can’t afford to lose. This is a war she declared ten years ago. They’ve gone too far down to give up. If she has to sacrifice everything for Eliot, she would do it without a second thought.
She would go as far away as they can, just so he doesn’t find him. She can’t afford to lose him… just like how she lost him.
Eloise shook her head to lead the bad things out. She shouldn’t be thinking about all of these. She should be thinking of a second job because Eliot is already in fifth grade. Soon enough he would step into the high school world and what scares her the most is rebellion.
Eliot is not the rebel type of guy. He was actually a sweet and loving child but still, he is a demon. He might be sweet and loving to her, to others, she still doesn’t know. He might end up just like his father whose demon is inside, literally and metaphorically.
She got out of their small house and started walking towards Jessica’s café. It wasn’t far from their home so it was alright. Walking had become her exercise too anyway. She hadn’t been getting any this week. She was too busy with work and bills to worry about exercising and her health.
She went inside their locker and since she was the only one there, she didn’t bother going to the changing room to change. She was in a hurry anyway. A lot of people visited the café today for an unknown reason. Sure, they were usually packed with people because of Jessica’s cakes and drinks but today was different.
The vibe is wrong. It’s like the people weren’t here for the food or the coffee.
They were there because of a certain person.
