Chapter 8

“So, how much do you remember now?” Leon asked her while they were in the middle of eating their dinner.   “Not much. I’m still in my first life and still when we’re kids,” Eloise answered him.   “That’s my favorite lifetime, you know.”   “Not my second life?”   “No. That’s when we first met and fell in love. You were the one who made me feel emotions.”   “So, you were born without emotions too?” Eloise curiously asked.   “Yes, but when I saw you getting bullied by those kids, suddenly, I felt anger. I felt that I had to protect you and it’s a good thing that I did.”   “Yeah, we became inseparable because of that. And, I’m also thankful that you did. Because of that, you became my crush,” Eloise joked.   “I knew that,” Leon teased her back so Eloise faked gasped.   “But I wonder why my name is also Eloise. Eloise Ilina.”   “It was always Eloise that stayed with you. Your second name and last name always change but Eloise didn’t.”   “Do you have anything to do with that?” Eloise accused him jokingly.   “I’m caught,” He admitted.   “The heck? You really had something to do with that?” Eloise said, feeling surprised that he would actually do such a thing.   “Yes,” He said.   “How?”   “It’s like a curse that I put you in before you died because I always wanted Eloise to be with you considering it was your first name.”   “That’s sweet,” Eloise told him.   “Thanks, love,” Leon said, lightly squeezing her right hand.   “So, you could curse people too?”   “We could do the impossible, love.”   “Then are you also in charge of karma?”   “Why are you suddenly asking about that?” Leon asked her, this time, he looked at her concerned that someone did something to her.   “Nothing. Just curious,” Eloise said but it was clear that Leon didn’t believe what she said.   “I can see from your eyes that you’re not telling me all, love.”   “Fine. I met someone who I think would receive bad karma. So, I’m just curious if it’s also your job to send karma to these people.”   “What did they do?” Leon asked, his voice slowly turning to anger   “Badmouth. But don’t worry, alright, love? I’m alright. I just really want to stop them from badmouthing people. If it was me, I wouldn’t care about it because I’m strong but what about other people? Not everyone can take that,” She explained.   She saw Leon calmed down so she felt relieved.   “Yes, we are in charge of bad karma. We have demons for that. They would assess or rate how bad the situation is and pick out a scenario fit to be their punishment. We’re not entirely sure if people would stop from doing bad things because of karma though. If you want, I could do something about it,” He offered.   Eloise immediately shook her head. “That’s alright. I know someday they would learn their lesson.”   “That’s nice of you, love.”   “So, how was the meeting with the Haverstons?”   “Boring because you weren’t there,” He said, slightly pouting.   Gosh, how could a demon look so cute while pouting?   Eloise lightly laughed and said, “If I was there, I know you’ll just be distracted. That was an important meeting, Leon. Mr. Haverston wants to buy shares, did you let him?”   “No. I could see where it would end if I accept it.”   Eloise looked at him, concerned.   “Why? What would happen?”   “He’s a very vile man, Eloise. He’s a human and you know how I can smell how vile they are and by far, this is the worst smell I’ve ever smelled.”   Eloise gasped. “What if he comes for us? You know, because you rejected him, he might have his little revenge on us? I don’t want to be kidn*pped, Leon,” She said with fear lacing her voice.   “Love, if you’re going to be scared of someone, that would just be my father because no one knows how vile that man is. He’s heartless even after meeting my mom. Everything was just business with him. We never had a father-son bond and I never saw him and mom together, loving each other. So be scared of my father, a devil, not just some human,” Leon said.   Eloise felt bad because she made him remember his dad. It must have hurt him growing up without a loving father. Well, she could quite relate. Her parents died when she was 11 so she also grew up with nobody besides her.   Eloise just shook her head and tried to think of a new topic to talk about.   “I really love the parts when we play. It’s like everything is just full of colors and fun.”   “Yeah, happy days,” Leon said, recalling the past.   “I wish I could do that with you again but, we’re not kids anymore,” Eloise said, suddenly feeling sad.   “Hey, you still have lots of lives,” Leon tried to console her.   “Yeah, but you won’t be there to play with me again as a kid.”   “True.”   “But if I would be a demon, we can turn our human form into kids, right?”   “Yes,” Leon answered.   “Now that’s a tempting choice to make,” Eloise said.   Should she ask Leon to turn her into a demon or should she just stay as a human? If she would be a demon, she’d be with Leon for eternity. She wouldn’t have to die over and over again at the same time, Leon wouldn’t have to wait for her too. She could also do whatever she wants like turn into children with no problems placed on her shoulders. But on the other side, if she did become a demon, won’t she miss the times when she was an innocent being? What if she hates it? What if her heart changes? What if in the end, she gets tired of being a demon? What would she do then?   This is a big decision for her. She was made as a human but would she want to be turned into a demon? There are so many points to consider to make a quick decision. But then again, she was in no hurry. Her life was still long so she has plenty of time to decide. She just hopes that in the end, she chooses the right thing.
