SAMAEL’S POINT OF VIEW
You should be f*****g kidding me. If I expected Kiara to push Leviathan away, she wasn’t planning on it, as her hold on his fingers against her shoulder tightened and she literally found shelter in his embrace.
I fisted my palm that seems to shake with anger, but my mind was too disturbed to make any moves. Besides, if I behave rashly right now, Leviathan might interpret it wrongly and to be honest, I didn’t even know myself why I was getting so worked up. It was my idea to bring her to the museum, but the regret I felt now was nothing compared to the time I broke mom’s priceless watch.
I waited impatiently for that part to end, and once it was over, I caught Levi’s hand and aggressively moved it away from her body. However, my firmness reduced once I noticed tears streaking down his eyes. What is happening? I wasn’t sure if I saw correctly or not since the brown light cast various shadows on his face, making it difficult for me to see properly.
Kiara sat back, her face filled with confusion. She was staring at her palms instead of the screen and she didn’t look scared anymore. Like seriously, what is going on between them?
Before I could ask anything, Leviathan stood up and excused himself before practically running out of the theatre. I just sat there, not knowing if we should leave or continue watching the drama. I was interrupted by a text message and opened it immediately, seeing that it was from him.
‘I am heading back by bus.
Will explain later.
Finish what you came for and take care of her.’
If I hadn’t been so caught up in the last sentence, I might have actually gone after him. Take care of her? Since when did he become her guardian?
“Should we leave too?”
I turned off the lit screen on hearing her voice and slid it back into my pocket.
“No. He messaged me that he had to go somewhere urgently. Why? Are you scared?”
Kiara shook her head and smiled at me.
“Its fine. We have come this far for me and it would be a waste of time if we just go back without completing.”
I nodded and returned to my position, but always kept an eye on her. For the next forty-five minutes, I pre warned her if there was any killing or aggressive incidents and she used her bag to cover her eyes. By the end of the movie, where the names of crew members were shown, I found Kiara taking out her notebook and scribbling something on the back page.
I had to steer away the demons that came close to her as she was so engrossed in the activity and made her way out of the theatre with the book in her hand. What am I? Her security? Bodyguard?
Only when we reached the cafeteria did she lift her head from the journal, and all my annoyance dissipated after seeing the bright smile on her lips.
“You were right about the drama. I have managed to get the names of every important demon and their purposes. I can even recollect several of their infamous crimes. Thank you so much for bringing me here and alerting me before the violence. I think I can at least pass with this much information.”
However, a pass mark was not enough for me. I had to make her get above average scores. Only then will she get into the advance class; which was my ticket to a date with her.
“Good. Are you hungry? It’s almost time for lunch break.”
Kiara had most he classes free today and only had to attend the last one; that is why I chose this day for our museum visit and I was glad that it actually helped her despite all the weird happenings.
She eyed at the partially crowded tables and turned her line of vision to the wending machine.
“Just a soft drink and a packet of chips would do. I don’t trust their vegetarian foods. What do you want?”
“Same.”
Smart choice. Even though they advertise that their patties in vegetable burgers were hundred percent green, it was a common secret that they mix pork or beef in it. I wondered if I should tell her or just let her figure it out from someone else. Well, I am sure that Keres must have already informed her. We walked to the large machine, and I saw Kiara taking out her small purse for money and I patiently waited.
One thing I learned about her in the past month was that she doesn’t like to be in debt with anyone. Every day, we met, she brought me some food item or the other and even if I refused, she would insist till I take it from her. And I knew that right now, she wouldn’t let me but her anything and I just went with the flow. Therewithal, it was refreshing to see someone different from the usual girls who were gold diggers and expect men to pay for everything, even though they claim themselves to be self independent.
“Here.”
Kiara handed me an icy can and a packet of red, spicy chips, before bending down and getting her’s. We moved away from the chattering hall and sat on a bench near to the indoor water fountain.
“Why did Leviathan leave without saying anything? Is it because of me?”
My first instinct was to lie but changed my mind, considering this was an opportunity to ask about their unique connection.
“I don’t know. But he wasn’t in a good shape.”
I replied, biting into the crunchy potato goodness. This was the best creation by humans so far.
“Honestly, I felt kind of peculiar, too. Unlike before, I had this déjà vu feeling when I touched Leviathan today. As if I have done it before.”
I spit out the soda in shock and stared at her incredulously. Leviathan said the exact thing, and I didn’t trust him back then. But now Kiara felt the same way as him, and it wasn’t making any sense.
“Are you alright?”
She asked, concerned, and handed me a plain white handkerchief from her pocket.
“Yeah…. It’s just….. the fizz went….. through my….. nostrils.”
I mumbled in between dry coughs and used the cloth to clean my face and shirt. She raised her hand near to my face but withdrew it abruptly on realizing the after effect. Why the hell am I disappointed now?
“Hit on your head lightly and shake the top of your ears with these two fingers. It should get okay.”
She gestured how to do it, and I followed her instructions carefully, surprised that it actually worked. No one has told me before of such ways and it felt good to know that she cares for me, at least a little.
“Do you know why you can only touch Leviathan and not me?”
She blinked at me, and I realized my mistake. Thank the devil I don’t blush easily or else my embarrassment would have been all over my face.
“I meant the other demons. I was just using singular tense since thee was no one else here and didn’t see the need for plural tense.”
Just die already. Can it get any worse? I don’t know if she realized that I was humiliated or actually bought my excuse, as she shook her head seriously and didn’t even have a hint of playfulness behind her eyes.
“No. I wrote it to my father, but he didn’t respond anything about it. He must have forgotten. So I mentioned it to one of my brothers and I haven’t got a reply letter yet.”
I nodded and just sat silently, torn between asking my next question and deciding against it. Screw it!
“Do you think he might be your soulmate or something?”
I blurted out before even realizing and I fixed my eyes on the cascading water, afraid to face her. What if she ridicules me? What if she gets the wrong idea? Did she notice the dismay in my voice? Will she think I am interested in her?
“I thought about it too.”
I twisted my neck so swiftly that I almost sprained it. She thought of it too? Does that mean she actually believes they are destined for each other? And why the f**k do I want to hit on the wall so badly?
“But soulmates include romantic feeling, right? Although I am not an expert in that division, I can differentiate the emotions and what I feel towards Leviathan doesn’t belong to that category. It’s more like what I share with my brothers; and that’s confusing me even more because whenever he comes near, I am reminded of my siblings.”
Don’t laugh. Don’t laugh. Don’t make it more awkward. I bit my lips hard and just hummed, afraid that the relief I feel right now would show out. Brother! Leviathan was just a brother. And she had little experience in the romance department. I am not even going to ask why that makes me so f*****g happy anymore.
“Maybe I should ask Azazel.”
Right, Azazel. He can touch her too. I opened my mouth to inquire about him, but closed it as my ringtone blared from my pocket. Keres’ name popped on the screen and I immediately knew she wasn’t exactly calling me. I handed the phone to Kiara, and she looked at me, confused.
“It’s your best friend.”
Kiara mouthed an ‘Oh’ and took the device from me before attending the call. Keres must have taught her how to use it.
“Hello?”
She looked like a kid using the telephone for the first time, and the way she separated the object from her ear was cute. She was afraid that it will latch onto her. In a way, it does.
“Who? I can’t hear you. Who came?”
I was startled as she jumped up from her seat and looked at me in alarm.
“We have to hurry back. My brothers are here.”
