At first, Kade had been terrified and furious. Someone had tried to hurt his child—and that someone had been the very woman who was supposed to be gone by now! But seeing Elena’s face, so hopeful, so terrified, streaked with dirt and tears… It made something crack inside of Kade’s chest before he knew what was happening.
Deep down, the moment he felt that buzz of anguish through their bond, it was as if a great wall of ice had suddenly formed the smallest of fractures in his heart. It was not nearly enough to shatter it entirely, but enough to give Kade pause. Enough to make him wonder…
Was Elena telling the truth? Had she only hidden here with Ivy in the hopes of not being forced to leave her and Kade’s side?
