Elena’s POV
Ajax was silent as he led me back to my room. Each step felt like a death sentence, like walking toward my doom. I feared the worst—feared that Kade might see right through my bluff, perhaps even realize who I truly was, and punish me in the most severe of ways.
As Ajax unlocked my door, I glanced at him. “Am I going to be punished?” I asked, wringing my hands worriedly. “Is Kade—”
“I don’t know.” Ajax opened the door and gestured for me to enter. “Wait here for the Alpha’s decision.”
And just like that, I was alone again. The Beta closed the door behind me and locked it, and the last thing I heard was the sound of his footsteps receding.
