CHAPTER 1: The Broken Promise.
Celestine's P. O. V
My name is Celestine Voss, 18 years old. I am the daughter of the head warrior of Silvermoon pack. My father is Vincent Voss and my mother is Elena.
Ten years ago
I grew up together with Kael in Silvermoon pack. My dad being the head warrior of the pack, he was required to stay near the Alpha incase of any emergency and that brought me closer to Kael.
One day we went out to play and wandered off into the forest. We played there for some time and When it was getting dark, we prepared to head back home.
But suddenly two rouges appeared from the shadows and blocked our path. They had red eyes and bare teeth. We were so frightened and terrified that we broke into a run. But the rogues chased after us. I soon realised they were after Kael because all their attacks were directed to him.
“ Celestine, I can't run anymore.” Kael said after we had ran some distance.
He had attained many wounds and I knew the excessive bleeding had drained him. Kael collasped on the ground before i could reply.
Then the voices came behind us. It was the rouges, they had caught up with us so fast. We hadn't even had time to call home for help and There was no time left. We had to save ourselves.
“Grab the little Alpha!” One of them shouted as the other lunged forward towards Kael his claws and purs already coming out.
“Don't touch him.” I roared as my wolf Aria spurned out with force to shield Kael from the attack hands spread wild. The force hit the rogues sending them flying backwards, they spat out blood, crushed on the ground.
My vision darkened after that and I collasped on the ground. Before Iossing consciousness, Kael had marked me and promised.
“When I am Alpha, I will make you my Luna. I swear, I will protect you for the rest of my life.”
When I regained consciousness, I was already in the pack and my parents were besides me.
But that was the last time I felt my wolf Aria inside me, she had gone silent after that, but what I never forgot was the promise Kael had made because his mark was still humming on my neck, and it was a constant reminder of what had led to this situation.
............................
I waited for 10 years for this day, the day Kael keeps his promise. I gave up my wolf for him and tonight the sacrifice I made back then was going to pay off.
I couldn't hid the happiness radiating on my face. I could hear my own heart thrumming through my chest.
"This was it, the long awaited day." I whispered to myself as I stepped into the room
The great hall was bright with candles. Long tables were laid with silver, and the banners of Silver Moon hung from the rafters, dark blue with a white crescent.
A hundred students in their best uniforms stood talking in little knots. Beyond them, at the far end of the room, on a raised dais under a wide white window, stood the Alpha’s empty chair.
I had only taken three steps through the door when the whispers began.
“She actually showed up.” A girl leaned in, whispering to her friend who was standing besides her.
“A wolfless girl really thinks she is going to be Luna." her friend whispered back as the laughed.
"If Kael really marries her, Silvermoon pack is a joke.” A boy said
But I kept walking, my head held high. I ignored them all because Kael was standing just a few steps away from me
When his eyes locked with mine, it glowed with some thing I failed to name.
But then, I felt it the thin bright thread between my chest and his, humming gently in the air like a plucked string. It was steady and warm. It had never once wavered. I turned my head, and across the crowded hall. Then faced Kael again.
“Celestine.” Kael called me.
“Come up, I have a surprise for you." he added.
"The time had come." I muttered as I walked up to the centre to meet him, my minds drifting back to ten years ago.
By the time I snapped out of the memories, I was already standing infront of Kael, but something was wrong because the look in his eyes was something I had never seen, not expecting especially on this day. It scared me a little. His face was stone cold and his eyes seem to pierce through my soul.
What was happening? Did i done something wrong? I wondered.
But what i didn't know was that this happiness I was expecting on this day was bond not to happen. Only heart ach, disappointment and humiliation.
“Kael.” I called him softly as my hands reached out to touch his face.
But Kael caught my hand and pushed it away before it could reach his face.
“What is wrong Kael?” I asked in a soft voice. Although I tried to sound calm, my voice was some how trembling.
Kael did not respond or spare me a glance, he just shifted his gaze behind us.
I turned around to see what he was looking at, when a familiar voice suddenly rang out Forcing me to stop dead on my tracks.
It was Selena's familiar voice. The daughter of the pack's beta and the pride of the pack.
Selena stood at my shoulder in a tight red dress, with her red-gold hair in loose waves and a pair of long silver scissor in her free hand. She was smiling. It was the sweetest, brightest smile I had ever seen on anyone
“So this is the surprise you promised me?” She asked.
What surprise was she talking about. u wondered.
“Do it, she deserves it.” Kael's cold voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I didn't not understand what they were talking about because it seemed they were talking in a language I didn't understand.
I faced Kael trying to inquire what they were taking about, until I felt Selena's scissors on my hair trying to cut it off.
“W-what are you doing?” I stammered retreating backwards, my voice trembling. I was not expecting this at all. What the hell was going on here?
“I am helping you wake up.” Selena said as she grabbed my hair cuting it right infront of the whole academy, while Kael held me down and the students filmed.
The place was in chaos as flashlights shot through us capturing the scene of my humiliation, some struggling among themselves to get a better angle to film clearly.
“Do you really think he'd marry you?” Selena asked.
“N-no, you can't do this to me.” I said checking my head in denial, because the Kael I know would never do this to me. What had gotten into him to act this way.
“Kael, you promised you would protect me, Is this the protection you promised?” I asked looking at him with hopefull eyes, but all I got was a cold gaze that crushed my hope.
“It has been 10 years Celestine.” He paused for moment, his gaze drifting back but it turned cold just as quickly.
“Everyone says I owe you my life, but why should a wolfless drag me down forever.”
His voice was calm and cold like I meant nothing to him all this time and may I did but was the blind one who couldn't see clearly.
All the years we had spent besides each other had gone down to drain in one single day. The late nights I had spent treating his wounds and accompanying him until he was healed, the strategic plans I had rewrote for just because he said he wanted to win, accompanying him throughout his trainings and helping him to secure the Alpha position was all gone.
“You get it now.” Selena said.
“An Alpha needs a Luna, not a deadweight.”
“Hey everyone, she thinks she is a hero, she is just a dog who can't even remember her master's face.” Selena's voice boomed as she continued cutting off my remaining hair until all of it was gone and the once long hair had turned short.
Kael just stood there watching without saying a word and it seemed like he was affected by my pain at all.
The day I had hoped for had turned into this and from the man I least expected, the man who had once promised me protection.
"I have an announcement to make." Kael's voice pierced through the crowd after the noise had settled. And for a brief moment, the place was filled with silence.
"My pulse increased and I could feel it beating too fast that I feared someone standing near me could hear it.
"Let this not be was I'm thinking." I muttered.
