CHAPTER 1: The Broken Promise.
Celestine's P. O. V
I waited for 10 years for this day, the day Kael keeps his promise. I gave up my wolf for him and tonight the sacrifice I made back then was going to be paid off.
I couldn't hid the happiness radiating within me, I could hear my own heart thrumming through my chest.
This was it, I whispered to myself, the long waited day. There were murmurs and whispers from the crowd the moment I stepped into the room, but I ignored them because I don't want anything to ruin this my joy and happiness on this particular day.
Besides all my mind was on Kael who was standing on the stage and i knew he was going to chose me as his mate and Luna tonight just as he had promised me 10 years ago.
Everything was going to change the moment Kael chooses me so the people's word did not affect me at all. My mouth kept twitching as i tried fighting back my smiles.
“She actually showed up.” A girl leaned in whispering to her friend who was standing besides her.
“A wolfless girl really thinks she is going to be Luna." someone else whispered among the crowd.
"If Kael really marries her, Silvermoon pack is a joke.” Then another.
But I ignored them. Kael was standing only a few steps away from me and when his eyes locked with mine, it flicked and I knew at that moment, he felt the same way I did, My eyes sparkled with happiness. He knew it, the bond does not lie.
I felt it thrumming between us alive and unbreakable, and this brought me even more happiness .
“Celestine.” Kael called me.
“Come up, I have a surprise for you.
The time had come. I thought as I walked up to the centre to meet him, my minds drifting back to ten years ago.
Ten years ago.
I grew up with Kael together in the pack as childhood friends. My dad being the head warrior of the pack, he was required to be near the Alpha incase of anything. This brought us together closer to family and that was how Kael and I grew together.
One day we escaped to the forest to play and wandered off to the packs boarder. Just as we were about to head back two rouges with red hungry eyes suddenly appeared and attacked us. Since we were younger and couldn't fight back, we decided ran while the rouges chased after us. But I knew they we after Kael and wanted him dead because all the attacks were directed to him.
“ Celestine, I can't run anymore.” Kael said.
and I knew be couldn't because he had attained many wounds and the excess bleeding had drained him. Kael collasped on the ground before i could encourage him to hold on a little longer.
Then the voices came behind us
“Grab the little Alpha!” One of them lunged at Kael.
“Don't touch him.” I said as I my wolf spurned out with force to shield him from the attack. She hit the rogues and they died on spot.
I knew I had lost my wolf at that moment because that was the last time I felt her. But I kept reminding myself that it was worth it.
Before I lost consciousness I heard Kael’s promise.
“When I am Alpha, I will make you my Luna. I swear, I will protect you for the rest of my life.”
When I regained consciousness, I was already in the pack and my parents were besides me. But I never forgot the promise because his mark was still humming on my neck, constant reminder of the promise he had made.
By the time I came back to reality, I was already standing right infornt of Kael, but the look in his eyes scared me a little. His face had gone stone cold and his eyes seem to pierce through my soul.
What was happening? Had i done something wrong? I wondered.
But what i didn't know was that this happiest day was going to turn into the worst day of my life.
“Kael.” I called him softly as my hands reached out to touch his face.
But Kael pushed my hand away before it could touch his face.
“What is wrong Kael?” I asked in a soft voice filled with worry and concern, though I tried to sound calm, my voice was already trembling.
Kael did not respond, he just shifted his gaze behind us.
I turned around to see what it was but a loud and familiar voice stopped me right that instant.
“So this is the surprise you promised me?”
It was Selena, The daughter of the pack's beta and the pride of the pack holding a pair of scissors.
As I tried to wrap my head on what was really going on. Kael spoke again.
“Do it, she deserves it.” His voice had long gone cold different from the one I was familiar with.
I didn't not understand what was going on until I felt Selena's scissor already in my hair and some of it falling to the ground.
“W-what are you doing?” I asked her my voice trembling. I was not expecting this at all. What the hell was happening?
“I am helping you wake up.” Selena said as she cut my hair infront of the pack, as they recorded the scene.
The place was in chaos as flashlights shot through us capturing the scene of my humiliation, some looking for a better angle to capture.
“Do you really think he'd marry you?” She asked.
“N-no, you can't do this to me.” My body was shaking.
“Kael, you said you would protect me, Is this the protection you promised?” I looked at Kael with hope full eyes, but all I got was a cold gaze and words that shattered me even more.
“It has been 10 years Celestine.” He paused for moment, his gaze drifting back a little
“Everyone says I owe you my life, but why should a wolfless drag me down forever.”
His voice was calm and ice cold like I meant nothing to him at all.
All the years we had spent besides each other had gone down to drain with his harsh words.
The late nights I had spent treating his wounds, accompanying him throughout his trainings and helping him to secure the Alpha position. Did it really mean nothing to him?
“You get it now.” Selena said.
“An Alpha needs a Luna, not a deadweight.”
Had I really become a deadweight in Kael's eyes just because I didn't have a wolf?
“Hey everyone, she thinks she is a hero, she is just a dog who can't even remember her master's face.” Selena's voice boomed as she continued cutting off my hair in front of the pack academy.
Kael just stood there watching without saying a word. So this was how my happiest day had turned out to be.
My long waited day had turned into disappointment and humiliation from the man that had once promised me protection.
Kael's voice sounded again piercing through the crowd.
