Chapter 6: New faces As soon as I was through scaling the side of my house and directly outside my window, I ran toward the back yard. After which I professionally scaled the fence, only to fall face first when I realized I wasn't spider man. The joys of being a delinquent I quickly dusted myself off ignoring the possible brain injury I might of received. The cool air lightly tickled my face as I sluggishly walked down the lonely streets. I was lethargic to say the least and I thought escaping for a bit would do me some good. It was when I was half way down the street, reality back handed me across my already bruised cheek. Where was I going? I can’t go to Sean and I literally have no other friends so why the hell did just climb out my window. I slowed my pace and soon after came to a complete stop contemplating on what to do next. The leaves from nearby trees trembled and flew by me as the wind blew. They whirled around in the air as if they were dancing to the wind’s mellow tune, putting on a production for only my eyes. It was a pretty night after all. I needed air anyways. I continued walking until I came upon a bench just outside the neighbourhood's park. I stared at the bench for a while, because staring at inanimate objects is just my forte and I decide to extend my circle of friends from just a wall to, a wall and a bench. Really? I rolled my eyes at my pathetic inner thoughts and sat down on my new friend. Quirks that's what makes a real character. The atmosphere put me at ease, the mood fit for day dreaming. Living in an average American family, where our biggest problem would be to decide which cancerous fast food we should part take off on 'junk food Fridays'. Ah Dreams, its better suited for sleep and I’m wide awake, wasting time on subconscious crap. I jolted up from the bench refusing to humor my wishful thinking any longer. I needed a change of scenery. My feet lead me to the bushes that surrounded my favourite little river, pond, or was it a clearing? Whatever it is. The sky was getting darker but, it was as if the moon's light only shined over the bushes surrounding my favourite spot, similarly to that of a spot light. I took a step back to admire the landscape and smiled a little. I doubt many people knew of this place, It was way too far out of town and well hidden from all the stress and pain of society. I quietly parted the bushes and started down the narrow path that lead to the water. Wow Emma taking a stroll through a dark and secluded clearing. Smart, real smart I mentally scolded myself for just momentarily thinking about the possibility of danger after I was half way there already, until I heard it. A giggle. I stopped dead in my tracks once I heard a low voice follow that giggle. Somebody's here? Well that completely contradicts my earlier sardonic inner voice. I stood still wondering if I should stay or interrupt my guests. Interrupt? Of course I shouldn't interrupt, who am I bat man? Sneaking up on people. I ran my hand through my hair a little annoyed that I had to leave and started to head back until I heard. “Well its true, no lie” followed by a chuckle. That chuckle sounded exactly like... I quickly turned back around to face the path, and as quietly as I could I crept up to the bushes. Because I'm a ninja tonight apparently, scaling fences and hiding in bushes Carefully I parted my camouflage trying my best not to make a sound. When the bushed separated far enough, I saw them. Two people sitting on rocks by the water’s edge. From what I could make out in the dim light there was a boy and a girl, both their backs turned to me. The girl’s head was resting on the boy’s shoulder, while they spoke to each other. For some reason they thought it was the best time to start whispering, because I couldn't hear anything. I squinted my eyes to make out the scenery a little better. That couldn’t be Sean, I mean it’s not my business, then again yes it is, but he wouldn’t be out at night with some random girl. I was so caught up trying to figure out what might have been the next Da Vinci code that I didn't notice what must have been an army of ants climbing up my arm. I barely stifled my scream when those red demons tore into my flesh. “You heard something?” I abruptly ceased my mass homicide on my arm's offender and peered back through the bushes. They were both looking in my direction. “Probably a raccoon” the guy said. I squinted a little as I tried to make out his face. Then the will to conceal the bitter smirk that stretched my lips soon dissolved. Sean? With a girl. “I’m sure raccoons don’t speak. I thought I heard ‘ouch’ or something like that”. Sean chuckled at her remark, “it’s probably just the wind, and I’ll show you there’s nothing there”. I was trying to make out the girl’s face when I noticed Sean moving closer to where I was hiding. I had to ditch. I backed away slowly from my hiding place until I was far away enough to sprint as fast as I could away from the clearing. Ah my bench, my friend. I slowly slid into my seat as I steadied my breathing. A new girl huh?
