Emma's POV
"I'm going to have to meet you around twelve, Yes that amount is fine"
"Mom?" I said rubbing my eyes as I approached the kitchen. I could hear her soft cracked voice from the entrance. "what are you doing up so early?"
Her hunched figure was turned away from me as she leaned against the kitchen counter. She didn't notice me for some time and I watched her intently as she whispered into her cell phone . When her eyes finally landed on me she quickly fixed her posture and smiled. I quirked an eyebrow before staring at her phone.
She then turned the receiver to her chest and cleared her throat.
"Go back to bed sweety, I just have some business to attend to, okay?"
Its seven thirty idiot
I stared at her for a while and she smiled at me before turning around to return to her phone call.
"No, no less than 200".
"Pathetic" I mumbled before turning away from her and making my way up the stairs. I heard her release a heavy sigh before I made it to my room. I hesitated before opening the door and locking it behind me.
Should I have just left her...
How many dirty scary men have my mom slept with, for him?
I shook the thought out of my head before walking over to my closet.
Green overalls today, huh?
I got myself dressed and turned to my reflection that was mounted on the wall.
I was the splitting image of my mom, as ginger as one person could possibly be. Bright fire engine red hair, piercing blue eyes.
God I look like an optical illusion. How is it possible that this face to works for my mom?
I grabbed my knapsack and headed downstairs. She was still there In the kitchen, her head buried in her hands.
I watched her quietly as a whimper escaped her lips.
Yup she's a beauty, a pathetic beauty, but a beauty none the less
I rolled my eyes before walking inside the room, She was unaware of my presence. I quickly grabbed an apple then left for school.
Alright so rushing out the door to school, with breakfast...that's not cliche
I've never headed to school this early before, with good reason. When I arrived only the janitor was there cleaning the halls. He gave me a quick glance and I nodded greeting to him as he replied with a smile.
The halls were quiet, the school actually felt serene, since no one else had arrived yet. I decided to stay in class and...think
I needed to get over everyone, I mean what's it to me? I'd just be normal around him.
Right get over Sean, that's possible.
I frowned and searched through my bag.
I felt for the small container I was looking for.
Alrighty pills make me happy
I walked over to the faucet that was at the back of the room and quickly swallowed them.
I wiped my mouth and closed the lid on the container. On the way back to my seat I caught my reflection in the surface of the shiny sink and smirked.
Well mom I guess 'pathetic' is contagious. Now 'pitiful' that's what I hope science has a cure for.
Time rolled by quickly as the school filled with students. The first bell rang and I was feeling a little dazed to say the least.
That is I was high as f**k. These pills better make me see a purple unicorn.
I settled in a comfortable position at my desk. Once class had started and my history teacher had started naming random historical dates. I looked over at Sean's empty seat.
Where is he? Oh god my unicorn ate him... Or was I the unicorn?...Oh god I ate Sean.
The minute that thought ran through my mind he rushed in through the doors. He grinned sheepishly at the teacher who gave him a disapproving glance before shaking his head.
"Hey" he whispered to me once he sat down and began shuffling through his bag for his book. I nodded at him.
A nod? That's all? I need to be normal and not all feely and suspicious. I was a purple unicorn god dammit.
Class finally ended, and after three long hours it was finally lunch time.
I slowly packed my bag as I tried to clear my swaying vision. Sean stood by waiting on me making us the only two left behind in class. My head was pounding. I slowly got up but soon landed on my seat once again, as my knees gave out. My bag fell out of my hands spilling its contents on the floor.
"Emma are you okay?" Sean asked looking extremely worried as he rushed to my side. I tried to move again but I just fell back down. "Emma what's wrong? Did you eat this morning?"
I ignored him and he sighed before stooping down to repack my bag.
"I had an apple" I mumbled. A few seconds passed and I noticed Sean hadn't responded. I looked down at him only to see him with the bottle of pills in his hand. All the blood suddenly drained from my face. He looked up at me, his face sagged and his eyebrows knitted. "Emma, what the f**k are these?"
We sat their mute, eyes everywhere but on each other. He said he wouldn't let me avoid it. He knew exactly what he was holding. I clenched my fist in an attempt to calm my rising anger.
He had me on trial..
Who was he to judge?
"Give them back," I mumbled. I was tired of this game. These egg shells he would purposely lay out for me to walk around. I didn't like how he would always make me feel so pathetic by just being near me.
"Why?" was all I could get from him. It was such a loaded word when he said it, the three letters weighed the same as a five page soliloquy.
"Who are you asking?"
I heard him chuckle, it was at that time I turned to him. His hand clutched tightly on to the container as he stared blankly at nothing in particular.
"I was in pain," I looked straight at him as those words left me, ensuring that they reached him.
He then turned to me, eyes glued to mine.
"What?"
"Why were you in pain?" his voice wavered when he asked.
That question alone made me sober up real quick.
"Don't worry about it."
He sighed before shaking his head. He then stared at me for a while before turning around in his seat.
"Who gave them to you?"
"I think you already know"
"That Derek guy?"
I was still looking straight at him even though he was turned away from me.
"Look at me," I mumbled. I watched as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat and kept his eyes on the wall directly in front of him.
"Sean look at me"
He finally turned back to me and I smirked at him.
"Are you angry?"
"Don't worry about it," he mumbled before tossing me the container. I caught it and looked at him in surprise.
"Sean?"
"Tell me when your ready,"
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The sky was what had distracted me from my jumbled thoughts. To say I was just tired would have been an understatement. I was on my roof, outside my window trying to get a handle on what was going on. Sean didn't question me anymore after we left the classroom. I knew he was beyond pissed at me, though he didn't say it.
I inhaled deeply before shaking the memories of earlier events out of my head. I didn't have time to worry about Sean. I gripped the paper I was holding even tighter in my hand. Residential sales contract, that was what the paper said. I let out a shaky breath and crumbled the document before throwing it down from off the roof.
"Well Emma I guess your moving," I whispered as I wiped away a few tears I was trying to hold in.
