chapter 1 (18+)
The clock on the cracked wall showed 2:07 a.m. The old apartment was quiet except for the distant drip of a leaking pipe somewhere in the walls and the occasional creak of the building settling. Outside, the suspicious neighbourhood lay under a thin yellow streetlight that barely reached the narrow windows. Inside the one-bedroom flat, she sat on the edge of the worn sofa, knees pulled close, waiting. Her heart still lifted a little every time she heard footsteps on the stairs. Even after three years of marriage, even after all the fights and the bruises, a small, stubborn part of her still hoped that tonight he would come home different. Knock. Knock. Knock. She rose slowly. The floor was cold under her bare feet. She walked to the door and rested her palm against the thin wood. "Vishal?" she asked quietly. A familiar voice answered from the other side, rough and already angry. "OPEN THE f*****g DOOR... IT'S ME..." She unlocked it. The door swung open and the smell of alcohol hit her first-sharp, heavy, mixed with cigarette smoke and something cheaper. Vishal stumbled in. His usually neat hair was messy, falling over bloodshot eyes. The collar of his shirt was open, the fabric wrinkled from a long night. He slammed the door shut behind him. The sound cracked through the small apartment and made her flinch. Without warning his hand shot out and closed around her upper arm, fingers digging in hard. He pulled her close. His breath was hot and sour against her face. "Ahh... Vishal, you drank too much..." "Shut up!" he snapped. The words came out thick. "You always nagging me about something. I had a bad day, okay?" He shoved her. She stumbled backward, the backs of her knees hitting the edge of the couch. She caught herself on the armrest, the old fabric rough under her palms. For a second she stayed there, breathing carefully. Then she pushed herself up and went to him again. He was swaying. She slipped an arm around his waist, taking some of his weight the way she always did. He leaned into her heavily. One hand clamped onto her waist, grip tight enough to leave marks later. He lowered his head near her ear, voice still slurred but softer for a moment. "Why do you always have to be so damn caring?" She didn't look up at him. Her voice stayed low. "You're my husband." Something shifted in him. The hardness in his shoulders eased for a few heartbeats. He buried his face against the side of her neck, breathing her in like he was trying to remember something clean. His next words came out almost broken. "My wife... my beautiful wife..." Then the softness vanished as quickly as it had come. He pulled back. His hand rose and the slap landed hard across her cheek. The sound was sharp in the quiet room. Her head turned with the force of it. Pain bloomed hot across her skin and sank straight into her chest. Tears stung the corners of her eyes, but she forced them back. Her jaw tightened until it ached. Vishal watched her. He saw the way her face had turned, the shine that refused to fall. He knew he had hurt her, knew it in the same distant way he always did when the alcohol was still strong. He grabbed her chin roughly and forced her face back toward him. "Stop crying." She didn't cry. She only looked at him, eyes steady even while her cheek throbbed. "Why are you late?" Her voice was barely above a whisper. He exhaled hard, the grip on her chin loosening. He stepped back and ran a hand through his messy hair. "I was at the club with the guys. You know how it is." A pause. Then the irritation returned. "Why do you always have to ask so many questions?" She said nothing. The silence seemed to scrape at him. He looked at the closed-off line of her shoulders, the hurt she was trying to hide, and the guilt that flickered across his face was gone in an instant, replaced by fresh anger. "Say something, you stupid girl!" he yelled. His foot shot out and kicked the nearest chair. It toppled with a loud clatter against the thin floor. She flinched at the noise. "Stop... Don't yell. We're not alone in this building..." she said jaw tightened. The words cut through the alcohol haze. Vishal's mouth snapped shut. His eyes flicked toward the walls, remembering how easily sound travelled in the old building. When he spoke again his voice was lower, but no less harsh. "Then shut up and listen." She stared at him for a long moment. Then her gaze slid away, landing somewhere on the cracked floor near his shoes. The refusal to meet his eyes lit the anger again. He closed the distance in two uneven steps, seized her arm, and pulled her toward the bedroom. The door slammed behind them, the sound final. "Come here," he growled. Michael's heart hammered against their ribs like a trapped bird. "Vishal-" "Shut up!" He threw Michael onto the bed with a rough thud. Before Michael could recover, Vishal was on top of her, his weight crushing and oppressive. His hands gripped Michael's thighs, forcing them apart with an uncontrolled urgency. He was half-drunk, horny, and entirely consumed by a need to dominate. As he unbuckled his belt, the metallic click sounded like a sentence and take his d**k out. stare at her with effection eyes with hungry and needy, without warning he enter his hard length into her entrance. "Ahhh- stop!" Michael let out a slight, panicked scream as he pushed inside them without a word of comfort or a moment of tenderness. It wasn't love; it was an exorcism of anger. Vishal moved his hips harshly, using Michael's body as a vessel for his frustration, his fingers digging into Michael's skin, leaving bruises that would bloom like dark flowers over the coming days. "Shut up," he grunted, his movements rhythmic and cruel. Michael closed their eyes, the world disappearing into a blur of pain and longing. In a moment of pure, paradoxical desperation, Michael reached up, their fingers sliding into Vishal's messy hair, pulling him closer even as he hurt them. "Ahhhhh... Vishal... st-" The touch changed everything. As Michael's fingers brushed against his scalp, Vishal suddenly paused. A shudder ran through his entire frame. The aggression drained out of him, replaced by a raw, suffocating desperation. He collapsed forward, burying his face in Michael's neck, his movements slowing, becoming deep and needy. In the silence of the room, amidst the scent of alcohol and the sound of labored breathing, Vishal realized it. Even in his darkness, even while he was tearing Michael apart, he knows she loved him and He loved her with a violence and a hunger that he didn't know how to control, clinging to Michael as if they were the only thing preventing him from drowning in his own ruined life.
