Chapter Five: Echoes of El'Veyra

388 Words
The golden doorway pulsed like a heartbeat, humming with forgotten power. Kael approached slowly, the mark on his arm glowing brighter with every step. The stones beneath his feet warmed with ancient recognition. “Elira… what is this?” he whispered. She knelt beside one of the statues. “A Flamegate. The last remnant of the old sanctum. Only those marked by the Ember may enter.” Kael took a deep breath and stepped through. --- The world tilted. He stumbled into a vast chamber of light and flame, suspended in nothingness. Floating platforms of scorched stone drifted beneath glowing constellations. Runes shimmered in the air, constantly shifting like living words. At the center stood a figure — translucent, clad in armor of fire, his eyes twin suns. He turned as Kael approached, his voice a thunderous echo. “At last… a bearer of the Ember awakens.” Kael stood frozen. “Who are you?” “I am Vaeryn Flameborn, last High Sentinel of El’Veyra. My soul lingers, bound to the Flame, until one worthy claims its fire anew.” “Worthy?” Kael asked. “I’m a blacksmith’s apprentice.” “No,” Vaeryn replied, stepping closer. “You are the spark born in shadow. And if you fall, the world falls with you.” Vaeryn raised a hand, and flames coiled around Kael like a cloak. Visions struck him—dragons soaring above molten mountains, shattered gates where shadows poured in, and a golden city burning from within. “The Ember remembers,” Vaeryn said. “But it must trust you.” Kael fell to one knee, gripping his head. “How do I control it?” “By remembering who you are… and who you must become.” Suddenly, the fire receded. Kael gasped and found himself back in the cathedral. Elira caught him as he stumbled forward. “What did you see?” she asked. “Ghosts of fire… and a name. Vaeryn.” Elira’s eyes widened. “Vaeryn Flameborn was one of the Seven. If he’s bound to the Ember… then your destiny is tied to the Fall of El’Veyra itself.” Kael stood, breathing hard. “Then I need to know everything. No more half-truths.” She nodded. “Then we begin your training. And your journey… to Mount Cael’Tor.”
