Anastasia: “What are you doing, Anastasia?” My mother barged into my room, her eyes scanning my packed-up luggage and my now empty room. “Why are you doing this?” She asked, staring at me with so much disappointment. “Please don’t look at me that way, you know I don’t want to leave here.” I shot back at her as I stood from my bed. “I’ve been calling you to come downstairs, we need to leave now so we don’t miss our flight.” She ignored the part where I told her I didn’t want to leave. “It would be much better if the plane left without us,” I muttered under my breath and she arched her brows at me. “Don’t give me that tone, Anastasia, you know I’m doing this for your good.” She retorted, her voice high and her tone a bit aggressive. What did she mean she was doing this for my good? “No, you are not, this is for you and you alone,” I replied back “What do you mean?” “You know what I mean, mum. Getting married to Henry, becoming a Luna, becoming super rich, having no time for me, for goodness sake this is not the life we used to have. You used to love me so much, you spent so much time with me but now you don’t even know me, and now you’re forcing me to leave my life here behind and go with you?” I asked my voice high and disgust evident in my tone. “I love you baby and I know that this is your home and childhood but baby you cannot stay here anymore. There’s no one here with you and Henry wants to get a chance to be a father to you. There’s a better life in New York.” She explained and I scoffed. My life is here. My friends. “I don’t want him, I have only one father. You and your super-rich husband need to get that into your head. I have only one father and Henry isn’t him.” I mouthed aggressively. I was standing face to face with my mother, my breath hitched and my chest rose and fell as I spoke angrily. “Give the man a break, Anastasia. You hate him for no reason.” I was surprised that she could say such a thing, hate him for no reason. No, I hated him because he came into my mother’s life and took her from me. He made her money-minded. “Hate him for no reason? That man walked into your life and you ran into his arms because of his money.” “How can you say that?” She seemed upset as her blue eyes glistered some sort of pain. I watched her ruffle her hair. People say that I look like my mother and act like her. I was her exact copy except with brown hair and a more slender body, 5 '4 tall and pretty but I never want to be like her. “I was fine with granny, I was okay with her. You didn’t have to come to ruin my life one more time.” “Well she’s dead now and you cannot be here on your own.” “Yes I can, I am an adult.” “Not until the next 2 weeks,” she replied and I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, you better shut your mouth and get into the car, else I’m going to pull you with me.” “ you wouldn’t.” I folded my hands underneath my breast and watched my mother sigh tiredly. “I thought you said you wanted me to be happy? I love Henry.” “I love it here.” I looked around finally accepting that this place I used to know as home wasn’t home anymore. “Please Anastasia, I know it’s hard for you, but it’s hard on me too. “No, it’s not hard on you. You get to live with the love of your life while I move to a city where I know nobody. stop trying to be the victim.” I echoed loudly and with that, I picked my bag up. Slouching in defeat, I rolled it out of my room. My entire childhood had been in this town, I was leaving my memories behind, my high school, and my friends, I would not consider them my friends anymore but still. My mother had gotten married a few months ago and I had only seen her husband Henry a few times before the wedding and on the day of their wedding but that was it. I had continued to stay with my grandmother, attending school here and living my life even if I missed my mother but sadly she passed away a few days ago and as a result, I have to live with my mother and her husband. We arrived at the airport and after waiting for a few minutes, we were able to board. I knew he was rich, I mean, he’s an Alpha but I didn’t know we would be flying business. My mom had told me he wanted her to take his private jet but she didn’t want to. They were rich. My life was changing, school, people, environment, no grandma, no best friend. I wiped my eyes. My mother looked satisfied that she was ruining my life. “You can stay at home tomorrow, you don’t have to go to school. We can do something when I get back from the office.” She said, “That’s not my home and I want to be able to catch up in school and I don’t want to be in a room all day.“ ~~~ Hours later our flight landed in New York, mom helped with my bag and as we reached the exit of the airport, a man was holding up a sign with my mom’s name on it ‘Stella’ “There he is.” We reached where he was and the man helped us roll my bags out of the airport, he put them in the trunk of the car and soon we were headed to my mother’s new pack. We reached the pack house and my jaw dropped in awe. This was a million-dollar penthouse house, it was exquisite and expensive, I had only seen houses like this in movies. “Let’s go in.” Mom led the way and as we walked into the living room, I was startled again by the beauty. “Welcome home, Anastasia.” My eyes met with the owner of the voice, it was Henry. My mother’s husband. “Hi, baby.” I watched my mother pull him into a hug as he rendered kisses all over her face. When they were done with their display of affection, they finally turned to me. “Thank you for coming,” Henry said and I snorted. “I didn’t want to be here, you and your wife forced me. If I had my way I wouldn’t be here.” I watched them swallow hard, they had so much to say but they decided against it. Just as we spoke, the door was opened and a young guy clad in a black sweatshirt and a faded blue Jean walked in. He had very beautiful brown eyes and they were mesmerizing. “Good evening, Alpha, Luna.”’He greeted my mother and her husband then glanced at me. “Hi, you must be Anastasia.” I nodded in response, it felt like a cat caught my tongue. I couldn’t speak “Nice to meet you, Anastasia, Luna has told us so many good things about you.” I turned to my mother, my eyes winding. I knew that Alpha Henry had a son, mom kept talking about him during our flight here but was this him? “Ana, this is Darius, soon-to-be beta.” She introduced me and we shook hands. He wasn’t the Alpha’s son. Not my stepbrother. “Darius, please show her to her room,” Henry said, his hand wrapped around my mother’s waist Just as Henry had asked, the hot guy showed me to my room. “Nice to have you here. You’ll be able to meet the other members of the pack house and your stepbrother tomorrow. You’d love everyone.” I nodded even if I knew it was a lie. The last thing I wanted to do was meet new people, especially my stepbrother. I mean after 18 years I have a brother? Eww.
