Chapter Five
Pamela ran her hand through her thick her, her eyes bobbed, she gulped down her saliva, and her insides churned. She'd gotten herself into a big mess, one that was costly for not just her, but Fallon Corporation. Pamela balled her fist and banged her desk hard, cursing underneath her breath. She had just three days to think of how she'd sort this big mess out. She checked Austin Garrison's pictures again. He didn't look like the kind of man that would let this slide. Did he know that she was related to the owner of Fallon Corporation? What was she thinking? Of course, he knew. Nearly every person in England knew her as the only child and heir to Mr Fallon, her father. He'd also brought her to her house, so there was no way he didn't know.
What if he finds out that she would be the one representing Fallon? Would he want to continue with the contract? If he'd wanted to call it quits with them, he would have done that by now. Wouldn't he? Or could he have something up his sleeves?
Pamela slumped on her chair and let out a deep breath. She needed to think straight, hard and fast. There was no way she would lose this multi-million dollar contract. She fumbled with the keypads of the phone on her desk and dialled the number of Mr Fallon's secretary. She informed her to report immediately to her office. A short slender bright skinned woman walked briskly into her office, her stiletto announcing her. Her hair was tied into a ponytail, giving off a business look.
"At your service, Miss Fallon." She bowed courteously, her hands were placed in her front, close to her belly, and her movements were robotic.
"Kindly get through to Mr Austin Garrison, the CEO of Dellag's Corporation, and inform him that the representative from Fallon's Corporation is Pamela Fallon."
"Right away, ma'am." She walked swiftly out of Pamela's office, her gait smooth.
This was the first step. She'd wait for his reaction to this news to know what to do next.
Laura Simon, her father's secretary, returned about thirty minutes later, and Pamela tried to conceal her nervousness. Laura's straight face wasn't revealing anything at all. She'd just have to wait for her to spill the beans. She was about to scream at her when she spoke. Maybe she didn't take so much time to speak. Maybe she was slow just in her head because she was getting too impatient.
"Mr Garrison wants you to reach him privately, and as soon as possible, ma'am. Here are his details."
Pamela's heart sank. She knew that whatever this was, it wouldn't be good. She'd hoped that their next meeting would be her physical meeting with him, but it seemed as though luck was not on her side. She grabbed his card from Laura and dismissed her. She spent the next twenty minutes staring at his card. She reclined on her chair and punched his email address on her laptop, which appeared on her screen. She started typing her message, which read-
"Good morning, Mr Garrison. This is Pamela Fallon from Fallon's Corporation. I would be representing Fallon in her meeting with you, which is coming up three days from now. I hope this mail meets you well."
Pamela wondered if she should include what happened between them or not. Should she bring it up and apologise now? If there was one thing Pamela sucked at, it was apologising. It had never been her thing. For one, she'd rarely had the cause to apologize to anyone. She always avoided situations that would make her apologise and even when she did something that warranted her to apologize, she never really did. Saying the words "I'm sorry" was harder than making a camel go through the eye of a needle.
Pamela resulted to sending the message without including what transpired between them and she waited impatiently for his reply, which took an eternity, at least in her head. When his reply finally came, Pamela immediately clicked on it.
"I knew that we would meet again, Miss Fallon. I must commend your level of professionalism. I didn't expect that you'd send me a message indirectly, well, at least, not after your informalism."
Pamela opened her lips in exasperation. She banged her hands on the desk again. Austin Garrison would be a hard nut to crack and as much as she hates to admit it, he scares the daylights out of her. She could already see that he would be so sneaky.
"That was a mistake, Mr Garrison, one I apologize for. You don't seem to me like the kind that would keep grudges. I'd like to think of you as a man that compromises." Pamela hoped that this sweet talking would work on him. Well, she was good at it, and it does work for a good number of people, and she wished that he wasn't an exception.
"I think we have something in common, Miss Fallon, and that would be that we both don't let someone off the hook easily. The last time I checked, you were going to fire your poor driver because he was incompetent."
Pamela found herself almost screaming. Why would he be so difficult? She was almost running out of patience. Pamela heaved a deep sigh, inhaling and exhaling, she was sure that she would go berserk if she continued without trying to calm down.
"What do you want?" Pamela typed and sent the message. She rubbed her fingers along her chin and stared at the screen of her laptop, anticipating his reply to her message. Her mind ran a marathon, thinking of a thousand things he could ask for. It wasn't like she had a choice, she had to succumb to his demands.
It'd been over thirty minutes and he hadn't replied to her message yet. Was he playing with her? How could he zone out on her now? She was sure that she would get a heart attack any time from now.
