Killian POV
After the extraordinary events of last night, I woke up early feeling more rested than I had been in a long time, rolling over to see Skylyn sleeping soundly. Her hair gently flowed across the pillow; she looked like an absolute angel as she slept. How did I get so lucky that the moon goddess gifted me with the most fantastic woman, the one I have secretly been in love with for years, and she is mine! I was worried that the moon goddess would mate me with a stranger, someone I had never met and knew nothing about, but she gifted me with the sky, the most beautiful and strong woman I had ever seen. I slowly lifted my arm off her waist and slid out of bed to ensure I didn't wake her sleeping peacefully.
I was heading into the kitchen, determined to cook breakfast and wake her up with breakfast in bed. I want to treat her like a queen, only giving her the best in everything for the rest of our lives and waking her up like this every morning. Stepping into the kitchen, I noticed my mother sitting at the table, drinking her coffee with an all-knowing smile. "You guys didn't get back till late; I noticed Skylyn's bed was unslept. You wouldn't know anything about that. So would you, son," she said, chuckling lightly as she slowly looked up at my neck, seeing my mark, her face turning into one of pure joy. I had forgotten to put on a shirt this morning. Damn, I could have avoided this conversation for a little if I had just put on a shirt; I thought, walking to the stove and starting to make breakfast, "Yes, mom, I guess you can put the pieces together.
As you can see, my mark clearly," I said, avoiding looking at her and distracting myself by making breakfast for Skylyn. Mom stayed silent for a while, letting me focus on what I was doing. Once I had finished cooking breakfast, I put everything on the tray. Then, before picking up the tray, my mother came up and embraced me in a tight hug. "are you upset that the moon goddess paired us together?" I said worriedly, I know I could handle my mother being upset, but skylyn would be beside herself if my mother did not agree because of how close they were and that sky saw her as a mother.
"Son, I am ecstatic; I couldn't have wished for someone better for my son than the girl I have raised, who I love deeply and see as my daughter," she said, showing her excitement. After speaking with my mother for a bit longer, I headed upstairs to our room and opened the door with the breakfast tray in my hand. The second I opened the door, I noticed she was now awake, sitting up looking nervous; the way her cheeks turned a lovely shade of pink made me fall in love with her even more by the second "good morning beautiful, happy birthday. I figured you might be hungry," I said, setting the tray on the bed beside her and placing a soft kiss on her lips, sending sparks through my skin." sorry I wasn't here when you woke up. I wanted to make you breakfast in bed, or mom would have brought some in," I said, handing her the plate of breakfast I had made. I noticed her getting lost in thought, pushing her food around her plate nervously, frowning slightly "is everything okay? You won't regret.. last night..do you?" I said well, slightly stuttering my words worriedly. "no.no, I don't regret any of it .it was the best moment of my life," she said, looking right into my eyes, a smile on her face. I sighed in relief "what's bothering you then, love?" I said, trying to read her expression "your mom..does she know..I mean, is she ..okay …with us?" sky said, stumbling over her words nervously and looking down at her plate. "Yes, she knows, not the full story but the gist of it; she knew something was up last night after both of us left after dinner and didn't come back till late. She had her suspicions, but they were confirmed after she noticed you weren't in your room. Then when I was cooking breakfast for two, I brought it to my room," I said with a sheepish grin, taking a bite of toast. "She has always been a mother to me, and I don't know what I would do with myself if she got upset at me because of the moon goddess. Pairing us together, "she said, continuing to look down. Grabbing her plate gently, I put it on the tray at the end of the bed, cupping her face in my hands and tilting her head so I could see into her eyes.
"She's not upset; actually, quite the opposite. She is ecstatic; she couldn't have wished for someone better for her son than the girl she raised, who she loves deeply and sees as her own. Well, I was making breakfast. She wouldn't stop talking about how happy she was once she saw your mark on my neck," I said, kissing her softly, feeling the anxiety leave her body.
The day went by pretty fast as my father and I helped to do the final operations for tonight's party. When we were finally finished with the last party organizing, I went and got ready for tonight. After getting ready with my father, I headed to our room, where I knew the sky was getting ready. Slowly opening the door, I noticed her looking at herself in the mirror; she didn't notice me walking in, so I took the opportunity and snuck up behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist and resting my chin on top of her head. "You look stunning, skylyn," I said, kissing her gently.
Sensing her nervousness and anxiety, "everything is going to be okay, sky," I kept reassuring her.
The rest of the night went well except for a few ups and downs in the beginning, with us getting caught by my mother in a moment of passion and Skylyn being a bit freaked out about the mind link. Still, she got hold of it fast. All of Skylyn's anxiety when my mother announced our entrance into the crowd was a mix of reactions at finding out that she had found her mate right away on her birthday and that, of all people, I was her mate.
We danced, laughed and met a lot of new people and some I could tell we all would be good friends.
Suddenly, Skylyn freezes, stopping right before the door bursts open, slamming into the wall, causing everyone to gasp and scream in shock at the sudden interruption. Protectively, I pulled Skylyn close to my side with my arm wrapped tightly around her waist, letting my claws out of my free hand, and my wolf came half forward, going into protective mode.
"Happy birthday, my dear daughter," he said with an evil tone, "nnn. oo you died.." she stuttered, filled with fear and pure hatred.
I have been told stories about how vile and evil this man was, but I thought he was dead, as did everyone else.
"No, my dearest daughter, I am alive and well, as you can see," he said with an evil grin.
"I saw it with my own eyes that day," she said as her mind was filled with flashbacks of the past and that evil man; I pulled her tighter protectively.
"No, you see, dear, I pretended to be well. You screamed; it was hard not to laugh at how pathetic you were, well begging, like the weakling you are, and who this man might be standing next to you," he said slowly, stepping closer. She turned to me, her eyes full of fear as the memories of her life crashed back. She opened the mind-link so I could see everything, so I knew how this vile man was. As she was sharing her memories, I was filled with hatred. In a second, my mom and dad stood in front of us protectively. "You are not welcome here, Cedric; I don't know how you survived, but leave now before I kill you where you stand," my father said with his alpha tone. "I came to celebrate my dearest daughter's birthday. I am her father, after all, not you, Ian," he spat with hatred. Sky stepped forward, full of rage and anger, looking at the man that caused her so much pain. "I am no longer that little fearful, powerless child you used to abuse; I hoped you died that day; you're a monster. Leave, or I will kill you myself. "Sky growled, letting her claws come out as a gold light started to surround her .gasps from the crowd filled the room as they tried to clue into what was going on here. She looked at her hands. Then, in complete shock, she turned back to Cedric with all the hate and anger burning inside her, making the light glow brighter. "LEAVE CEDRIC. " Shock and fear filled his eyes.
"no...the power has been gone for hundreds of years " his eyes became angrier, and he leaped forward, trying to attack, coming towards her, but before I could move her out of the way, she moved like she was taken over by something
lifting her hand, freezing him mid-attack. Then, slowly raising her hand, he started to float in the air till she threw her hand to the side, throwing him in the same direction hard against the wall, before turning around and running out of the room in tears, running out the door and shifting, heading towards the woods. I stood there in shock, trying to discover what had just happened as guards pulled his unconscious body and dragged him to the cells.
After a second, I shifted. Then, running after her, I went a few feet into the forest.
"AAAAHHHHH," she screamed. It was filled with so much emotion, anger, hatred and pain. The whole area was covered in a bright white blinding light. Every tree and stone in her vicinity was being picked up and thrown about 5 miles from where she was on her knees on the ground, leaving nothing but destruction around her. Suddenly she collapsed. I ran to her, picking her up in my arms, filled with worries for her. "It's going to be okay, my love, " I whispered, holding her body close to my chest. Then, sensing that she was physically fine but emotionally destroyed, I walked to our room and laid her down on our bed, gently placing the covers on top of her, laying beside her, and holding her tight. She needed to rest as she had no energy left, and I would be beside her until she wished for me to leave.
