CHAPTER ONE: KNOWING THE TOWN OF AMALEK
Boaz Alabama's POV It's already two months since I left my real home, the forest. I had always promised Mama that I would do everything possible to ensure that she comes back to town. The realization of my dream fills me with enduring gratitude and joy. As I survey my surroundings once more, I find them seemingly abandoned, sanctified for consumption. Yet, I harbor no qualms if they confine me to the confines designated for those of mixed heritage, or whatever term they use. Frankly, it suits my preferences perfectly—solitude, away from the bustling crowds. Ah, seclusion. All I am grateful for Mama's well being. Mama is hale and hearty, and happy to see the town again, after so many years. ' Boaz! Boaaahzzzz!!! ' Mama's shout brought me back to reality. ' What would be that thing that keeps a young boy of twenty-five year old lost in his thoughts? Boaz, stop thinking and come and have some food. ' 'Thank you Mama'. I stood up and made way to get my food from the kitchen. The steaming aroma from the yam porridge came just the way I loved it. I guessed this was Mama's way of saying Thank you to me. Thank you or not, Mama deserves the best. She's my world. ' Eat and have some rest, you have troubled yourself this week . A lot.' 'Thank you, Mama, what a delicious meal, this taste special'. I watched as Mama struggled with the spoon, a reminder of the challenges she had faced over the years. Her story was one of beauty tainted by betrayal, banishment, and loss. Yet, through it all, she remained resilient, finding purpose in her love for me Once esteemed for her beauty among the people of Amalek, Mama, despite her father's common status, captured the attention of the Emperor's son. However, lacking influence, she became a target of jealousy among those who deemed her unworthy of marrying into the imperial family. Through a scheme, she was drugged and found in a compromising situation with another commoner after a grand banquet. Despite the Emperor's son's favour towards her, this act was considered treason, leading to her banishment into the forest. While the Emperor wished for her death, his son intervened, sparing her life. That's how she forfeited her privileged citizenship in Amalek; her father passed away a year later, unable to bear the anguish inflicted upon his daughter. She gave birth to a daughter who couldn't endure the harsh conditions of the forest and didn't survive. Afterward, she grew embittered and developed a profound disdain for anything related to Amalek. Attempting to eke out a living in the forest only intensified her self-loathing, and she longed for death, though it eluded her. It was only upon encountering me that she began to find purpose in life She once expressed to me that I had provided her with a purpose—to embrace love and be loved—and she made every effort to care for me. I had asked her despite being free to leave the forest and knowing her way, why she never left, she said she remained, hoping Emperor's Son would seek her out. However, after more than 30 years, he never came. She anticipated his defense of their love, yet he succumbed to the falsehoods woven against her. With time, she has completely forgiven every I'll treatment melted against her. Even in her old age, I can see still all traces of beauty. Mama still radiates, beauty, love and light. Although in her late fifties, she still has a not too firm breasts, only I nursed from them. She has a firm standing hips and a slender waist, which younger girls won't even posses. She has beautiful face too but it has been interrupted by some wrinkles, nature. ' What are you smiling at? Why do you smile?" Mama asked, breaking the silence. "Just thinking about how beautiful you are," I replied, a hint of nostalgia in my voice. Mama chuckled softly. "Beauty fades, my son, but love endures." I nodded in agreement, understanding the depth of her words. Despite the wrinkles etched upon her face, Mama's beauty shone through in her unwavering love and strength. ' Ohhh!! I was one of the most beautiful girls in this town. The whole Emperor wanted me. Too bad, people are evil'. ' Yeah' ' You should go round and see the town, you know, get familiar with the environs and if possible make some friends ' ' you just said "people are evil", Mama, I won't take that risk of making friends. I don't even like these people. Who throws a gorgeous boy like me into the forest '. ' Of course, people are evil, but they are people that are meant to be for you' ' what about you Mama? Was no one ever meant for you? If I recall, you are the oldest virgin alive '. ' We both know that I am not one'. ' you were not aware of the experience, that makes you one' 'Enough of all these talk, son. Remember, I had a daughter who died, i know you will always throw that at my face, I was meant for you, and I have fulfilled that... ' ' likewise me, I was meant for you, Mama. Now give me some space to fulfill that too, I really want to make you happy. ' 'Boaz, you will go and make some friends in the village. I want you to be happy, Make some friends, get a girl, so you give me grand children.' ' Of course, you know, no one, no one mama, would ever want to marry me, I appreciate the suggestion, Mama, but I'm content here," I said, shaking my head. "These people are not to be trusted." Mama sighed, her expression softening with understanding. "I know it's hard to trust after everything we've been through, but not everyone is bad, Boaz. There are good people out there." I remained skeptical, I have resolved to protect Mama and our newfound sanctuary unwavering. "I'll focus on building our home and tending to the farm. That's where my priorities lie." Mama nodded, sensing my determination. "Just promise me you'll keep an open mind, Boaz. Life is full of surprises. We have to try, first '. She stands up, moves to her room, ' You don't sit down there and just assume, Make a move' She shuts her door. And shouted. 'Goodnight, young man' 'Mama, Goodnight to you too, I don't have any intentions of making any friends. Instead I will just focus on the getting the house more beautiful and making my farm a big one with loads of crops. These people are evil and I don't want them in my Space.' I took my plate to the kitchen, which wasn't in its best condition. Earlier, I had gathered some woods from the forest and palm fronds. With determination, I began to work, even though it was already 6 pm. Knowing Mama's early sleeping habits, I decided to be fast with the repairs inorder not to disturb her sleep. I replaced weak wood with sturdier pieces and organized the limited pots and plates we owned. My plan was to sell my crops in the next town once they grew, using the earnings to buy equipment for building a concrete house for Mama and me. "Thank you, Mama. This meal is delicious," I replied, genuinely appreciative, once again. I couldn't help but ponder Mama's suggestion to explore the town and make friends. However, the memory of past betrayals and Mama's own cautionary words about the evil persons around. I became lost in the rhythm of my tasks, the sound of my hammer echoing through the quiet surroundings. Despite my reservations about the townsfolk, i couldn't shake Mama's words from my mind. "What if Mama's right?" i mused aloud, pausing in my work. The thought lingered, planting a seed of curiosity in my mind. Perhaps there was more to life beyond their secluded existence. With a newfound resolve, I decided to explore the town the next day, if only to satisfy Mama's wishes. The following morning, I set out on foot, my mind filled with a mix of anticipation and apprehension. As i wandered the streets, i couldn't help but notice the curious glances and whispers that followed me. It was clear that i was an outsider in this close-knit community. Despite the initial discomfort, I pressed on, determined to make the most of my venture. I greeted passersby with a polite nod, though few returned the gesture. It was evident that they would have to work hard to earn my trust. I still do not trust them. Along the way, I stumbled upon a bustling marketplace, the air alive with the sounds of vendors hawking their wares. Intrigued, I wandered through the stalls, taking in the array of goods on display. From fresh produce to handmade crafts, there was no shortage of treasures to behold. As I browsed, I struck up conversations with the merchants, eager to learn more about the town and its inhabitants. Though initially wary of my presence, they soon warmed to my genuine curiosity and friendly demeanor. Before long, I found myself engrossed in conversation with a kindly elderly woman who shared stories of the town's rich history and traditions for a living and Through her tales, I almost gained a newfound appreciation for the community I hated. As the day drew to a close, I returned home, Although my was heart full of newfound hope and optimism. It could not shake off the hurt I feel inside. Mama greeted me with a warm smile, her eyes twinkling with curiosity. "How was your day, Boaz?" she asked, pouring me a cup of herbal tea. "It was eye-opening, Mama," i replied, settling into my chair. "I never realized how much this town has to offer." Mama nodded, her smile widening. "See, I told you there's more to life than our little corner of the world." I chuckled, conceding her point. "You were right, Mama. I suppose it's time I gave this town a chance." It made her happy that I socialize with people. With Mama's encouragement, I began to integrate myself into the community, learning about their culture but I avoided forging friendships and finding camaraderie in unexpected places. Though my journey was not without its challenges, I promise myself to remain steadfast in my commitment to building a better future for myself and Mama. As a year passed, my farm flourished, becoming a thriving hub of productivity and innovation. With each harvest, i find myself drawing closer to my goal of providing Mama with the comfort and security she deserved. And though our journey was far from over, I knew that as long as we had each other, we could weather any storm that came our way. For in the end, it was love that truly made a place feel like home.
