chapter 1.substitute
I had left that day to attend my sister's wedding,an event which was at the headlines of the media.
Sheila,my sister had been so excited, showing me various gowns and asking for my opinion.
Tossing her chestnut hair back from her face, she bent to pick a very beautiful gown worth millions, that our family had never and would ever afford.
The day to the wedding arrived and all was ready.
The decorations were amazing and was befitting of a billionaire.
The groom walked in to the altar and waited for his bride.
It went into minutes and the bride had not made her presence known.
What was going on with Sheila?.
Murmurs could be heard.the groom still stood there with a smile plastered on his face.
I couldn't help but feel his smile ,was strained.
My phone beeped, looking at the screen.
It was a message from my mom.
Get here immediately!
Getting up,and walking out, I came to face with an agitated parents.
Sheila was nowhere.
Ma,pa what's.......
No need, cut in my mother, get in and go get dressed.
I stared at her with a blank expression, what did she mean go get dressed?.
Michelle, there is no time to waste!.her father spoke hurriedly.
What is going on? Where is Sheila?I asked puzzled.
She's gone.
Gone? A frown etched on my face..
Take her and dress her!.my mother ushered me to the bride's maid.
Please for the sake of helping, not for us though,be your sisters substitute.
I stared at her flabbergasted.
If you do not! All of us would be in trouble.my father said with a scowl growing impatient.
The wedding attendant had started drawing nearer to us.
Very soon the murmurs would become more pronounced.
I hated this!.
My bestie couldn't come because of her failing boyfriend health.
Sheila had put us in a tight corner.she had left with her boyfriend without a consideration for what that would do to her family.
*************†********†
I walked down the aisle ,nerves in random motion.my father beside me a smile plastered.
I couldn't help but put a normal expression.the murmurs died.
Each step took a lot of minutes.the gown felt like an oppression,a weight.
If I could get a hold of my sister, only God knows what I would do.
Finally my father left me in the altar and I stood face to face with my sister's would be groom.
Heart thudding against my ribcage, threatening to burst.
It had been no problem ,taking my sister's place.
We looked so much alive and that what because we were twins.
Would you Mr Luther, take this lady standing here to be your lawfully wedded wife?
Yes I do.
Stilling my nerves to answer I also said yes I do.
We exchanged rings.
*********†*********†*****
You may now kiss the bride.
My heart stopped,I was about to kiss a total stranger,my sister's was to be groom.all in one day?.
He took a step, one ,two as if calculating.
And then his hands went to cup my head and he lowered his face.
And then his lips touched mine barely intruding my mouth.
At that moment I had died and came back alive.
A thunderous applause from the congregation erupted.
It had happened and it was as if watching a movie.
Only that it wasn't.
I was married to Mr Luther,a billionaire.my sister's supposed husband.
†. †. †.
Standing on the altar waiting for my would be bride.
It took hours, while in reality it was just minutes.
What was the cause for her to delay?.
Fuming within,I stood there beaming a fake smile.
I knew I was marrying a girl called Sheila but since I couldn't see,I had no idea of how she was.
It made me know that my blindness was still there,a hateful reminder of my life.
I had awoken stark blind.
Now with just a device in my ear and a personal assistant stationed somewhere to direct my movement through the device in my ear.
It wasn't known yet to the world,I tried to follow the directions with my eyes in sync.
I was far from getting frustrated and pissed when a hush fell, and the voice in my device said.
Here comes the bride with her father.look right.
Bracing myself,I turned right and waited ,the smile still plastered there as if happy.
It was a smile of a cold billionaire,if anyone even took care to notice.
The priest went on and on,and then it got to the point where I had to kiss the bride.
I groaned internally,I reasoned myself as too young to get married and was only conceding to my parents wishes.
You may now kiss the bride.
Moving lika a robot ,to me.i took the measured steps and followed the direction, getting her by sheer luck and bent stiffly to kiss my chosen would-be bride.
She was still.i wondered if it was a lady of good class,a ministers daughter perhaps.
Who might be stunning, beautiful and curvaceous.
And his parents wouldn't dare give him an ugly lady.
Let's get this done and buried.
