Chapter 1
Vampires' cries and screams of pain suddenly pierced the humid night as Nebit walked down the slightly dusty street from the well at the end of the block. "What in the grace of Isis is going on?" she asked herself as she clutched onto the clay pot filled with cool water.
Nebit blinked a few times in surprise as she felt someone dart past her in a blur and into a dark alley about three houses behind her. She quickly followed after the figure, vaguely noticing that the loud cries and screams had stopped, leaving only the sound of crickets chirping in the night.
As Nebit approached the figure, which had been cast into shadows, the Vampire suddenly looked up and the woman gasped at the pain in those golden orbs which sat on sculpted cheeks and the sharp lines that sculpted his face, showing the male was of at least noble birth. "Are you alright?" she asked out of concern as she took in the man's slightly wavy, dark hair that seemed to end at the man's slightly broad shoulders. She then noticed the rather large gash on the man's left arm that was oozing blood. Nebit gasped in worry and rushed forward to help stop the flow of blood and to clean the wound of sand.
Atsu flinched slightly as he watched the human woman quickly make her way forward and clean his wound. His golden eyes took in her slim figure as she tended to his arm, stemming the flow of blood. He winced slightly as he felt the cold water the woman used to clean the wound.
Atsu watched her in mistrust as the dark haired woman wrapped his wound in a torn piece of cloth from her white skirt. He shifted a little and tried to stay conscious and alert, seeing as he was still vulnerable. He took a deep breath and clenched his fists. "Why are you helping me? I am a complete stranger." He asked, his voice a bit hoarse from the screaming he had done.
Nebit shook her head and sighed softly. "Because it is the right thing to do. My name is Nebit by the way. It is nice to meet you." She gave him a kind smile as she finished with his wound. "My place isn't too far from here. Just three houses down. Do you think you can make it that far? You have lost a lot of blood." She asked kindly as she stood.
Atsu snorted and shook his head slightly as he struggled to stand, feeling slightly light headed. "I am called Atsu. Pleasure to meet you. If your house truly isn't that far then I should be able to make it." He told her as he swayed a little before he leaned against the wall behind him to stay standing.
Nebit nodded and had Atsu lean against herself as she picked up her now, half full water pot and led the way to the main street. As they walked, she pointed to the only open door on the street, which was indeed a few feet away. "See? That is my home, the one with the open door. You are more than welcome to stay for as long as you need to heal." She said as they started to slowly started to walk forward.
Atsu simply nodded as they shuffled down the street to the open door, trying to keep as much weight off of the woman as possible. As they walked, he struggled to stay alert and conscious, feeling dizzy and lightheaded, having had lost too much blood.
Nebit noticed how the man was swaying slightly as they walked and she took a calming breath. Finally, after what felt like forever, they finally reached her open door. "We are here Atsu." She told him, trying to keep him awake as she laid him down on her sleeping mat as gently as possible. Atsu shifted a little, wincing as his wound twitched a little. He finally passed out as he saw Nebit unrolling a spare bedroll for herself.
It took nearly two weeks for Atsu to wake and during that time, Nebit took care of him, changing his wound coverings and making sure he was comfortable. She also prayed to Isis for his health and wellness. As Nebit swept her floor, she noticed a groan coming from her sleeping guest. She gasped and dropped the broom before she rushed to Atsu's side to make sure he was alright.
Atsu hissed slightly as sunlight hit his face, making him quickly shut his eyes in pain. "By Osiris, close the curtains!!" he cried out in pain, feeling as if his face was slowly being peeled off. He tried to turn away from the burning sun, only to cry out in pain as his back started to burn and blister.
Nebit gasped in surprise as she quickly closed the curtains and the door to shut out the light. "By Isis! You've been blessed by Osiris!" she exclaimed as she noticed how pale Atsu really was, despite being slightly tanned as all Egyptians were.
Atsu snorted at that and rolled his eyes as he struggled to sit up. "More or less." was his vague reply. He watched Nebit curiously as the woman grabbed a knife and a drinking bowl. He saw the woman slice her hand and fill the bowl with her life's blood, making his eyes dilate and flash a deeper gold. He resisted the urge to pounce on her and bite as the smell of copper and oddly enough Lotus flowers filled his nose.
Nebit gasped slightly as she noticed his eyes and handed him the now full bowl. Her violet colored eyes watched as Atsu drained the bowl of her life's liquid and she finally turned to tend to her hand. She took a steadying breath as she grinned to herself, her sister would be so jealous she had met a blessed one.
Atsu felt the blood flow down his throat as he drained the bowl before he set it down next to him. "Thank you Nebit. Once the sun sets, I will be gone from here. The guardians of Set are hunting for me. It is dangerous for me to stay longer than I have." He told her as he felt the blood he drank begin to heal the blisters on his face and his back.
Nebit frowned a little at that but nodded. "Alright, but you are more than welcome for as long as you need to." She took the bowl back and cleaned it before she rolled up the spare bedroll she had and putting it away. Atsu simply nodded and as soon as the sun set, he was gone, almost as if he had never been there in the first place.
