Chapter 4

1313 Words
Hailey could not make out the figures in the dark, she was hearing voices but what they were saying was not clear enough. She squinted her eyes over a distance, the thirst to see was overpowering, more than the fear boiling in her veins. They was a group of four in the distance, three men and one female whatever the meeting was, it must be ungodly for it to be by this time of the night. She wanted to mind her business and go away but a curiosity rung the bell in her, Don't! she told herself but she still went closer. "Am not going to debate this" A man all dressed in white said to his colleagues he had the hieght but his looks were not clear. "Debate what exactly? I thought you were ready". The woman who was tall and slim faced the guy standing next to the one in white, she spoke with an air of authority. "Am not doing this, the universe might paint it grey but it is black." he turned back and took few steps away, it didn't matter if she turned to his companion, he had given her his answer. "Xaivier...!" The young man that was addressed by the lady called him back with a serious tone. "This is insane" Xavier said placing his hand on his forehead as he swiftly turned back "How am I supposed to do something like this?" He questioned. "What are you afraid of? you just have to allow Freya to pass through you and find the bond" The lady answered him even though it was a rhetorical question. "Do you even have a conscience at all? Hun chess?" He asked her, "We are talking about a baby, a baby Chess, a little baby". "We can stay here forever discussing conscience but am not the one who is dying" the lady said, her voice was devoid of any kind of remorse or pity. Hailey couldn't see clearly but from where she was, she could see another man sitting, his head was bent and he was almost unbothered by what they were doing. "Craine say something" Xavier tapped him but he didn't move nor did he utter a word, he was quiet and still as a mountain. "Isn't there another way to settle this?" the man leaning against a wall asked". "Only if he accepts to die" The lady replied, she was plain and sounded strange. "Chess, there is no way in the world that we are doing this you hear me?" Xavier raised his voice. "Never!". "And there is no way in the world that I will let my blood die" The man who had stopped him from leaving earlier stared at him sternly in the face. They both held each other's gaze and took in the tension before Xavier looked away. "Really, your going to make me do this?" Xavier asked him. It was clear that Xavier wanted nothing to do with their agenda, Hailey wondered what it was. "Do we have to cast lots on the obvious?" The man gestured. "This is not what I choose, it's unfair" Xavier raised his voice in protest. "The world is always unfair and if you think it ever will be then you are still a child". his colleague sounded much older and seemed to have the chair of authority over him. "I can't believe this." Xavier ran his fingers through his soft hair. "This is insane!" "What do we need?" His colleague ignored him and asked Chess. "We just need his blood and the blood of her mother" Chess replied coldly. "The blood of a witch's regioned, that's quite easy for you to demand" Xavier said full of hate. "Am a regioned too, I know what am asking you don't need to enlighten me on how difficult it will be" Chess was clearly upset with him, Hailey sort of understood why, he was a little too rude. "Such a regioned you are, trying to kill one of your own" Xavier didn't seem to care if she bursted out of anger. "One more ungrateful word from you Xavier and am out of here". She could have just ignored him but she didn't look like one who would let things slide. "It depends on what you term as ungreatful". He stared into her eyes, his was aflame. The young man did have some energy to show off, it was either he was arrogant or just been stupid Hailey thought, it looked like the young lady was trying to help him, he was been unnecessarily rude. "How do we get her blood, she is not just going to hand it over if we ask" The guy standing asked chess, he seemed more concerned about the situation at hand. "I can help but I need to locate where she is first, if I can trace her I would know what to do" Chess said with an air of pride, it felt like her moment. "But to locate her I need to be anchored..." "No need.." The man who had been bending his head all the while interrupted. It was as though he was in a trance, Hailey wasn't sure. "Craine am not going to ask that you anchor me if that's what you are afraid of" Chess cut at him sharply. "No need because she is here" he lifted his head and stared directly at Hailey. Hailey's eyes widened, they rest of the three all shot her a look and she felt a sweeping spark in her heart, just as she was about to shout, she woke up. "Heaven!" she sighed, she took in the sight of her room and breathed heavily. "What just happened?" a voice in her head asked her and just like the last drop of snow she felt her head go light. Not again, her heart echoed in pain, she did not know what to do about it. Telling her mum was not a suggestion she wanted to crown on her list, what would she do even if she told her? Her best bet was finding out how to stop the dreams or better still find an answer to what the dreams mean but the question was how?. Somewhere lurking in her mind she had the inspired idea to ask Grand ma Rose but as convincing as it sounds, she knew she was not going to try it. She was still debating what to do when Nadiah walked in from the bathroom. She had a towel tied like a turban on her head and wore her midnight red pyjamas, Hailey had always wanted it. "Wipe that look off your face, you look like a ghost" she commented on Hailey's facial expression. Hailey simply laid back on her pillow and stared into space. "What's wrong?" Nadiah asked, "Having boy problems?". Hailey still didn't respond, it dawned on her that her recent dreams or nightmares as Nadiah termed it was becoming too much of a simple occurrence, it meant something. "Did you have a nightmare again?" Nadiah asked. "I did" this time Hailey replied. "Hmm... Honestly this is becoming scary we should tell mum." She suggested. "No" Hailey sat up using the head rest to support her back. "Then what do we do, you can't keep living like this" Nadiah asked, concern laced in her voice. "I don't know but telling mum won't solved anything". "You never can tell" Nadiah insisted. "Soon you will begin to doubt your sanity, this is not ordinary". "Ok, we will tell her tommorow" it was late already and Hailey wanted to rest. "Goodnight" Nadiah switched off the lights and closed her eyes but not Hailey, her eyes were wide open. These dreams had meaning but she could not tell what it meant. She could not deny that Nadiah was right, it was draining the sanity out of her.
