Kelan paced up and down his room, it was getting too much for him.
A soft knock came on the door and he asked the person behind the knocking to come in.
As if he had not been through enough for one day, Sarafina came in all dressed like a bride on her wedding day only that she was not in white.
"How do I look?" She asked turning round so he could savour her look.
"Like you always do" he replied uninterested.
"I plan to wear something similar for the mating ceremony, it was a gift from mother" she said proudly.
"Do we share the same mother?" Kelan asked
"Of course not" she felt the question was silly.
"Then try to personalize it" he stated and walked to the table where he poured himself a glass of wine. "A bond between a mother and child is sacred, respect that".
"It was a gift from my mother" she correct her statement to his taste.
"How thoughtful of her" he took a seat.
"Kelan.." Sarafina hesitated, she was not sure how he would react but she had an idea and it wasn't pleasant.
"I know am not your mate and you don't even choose me but if this is going to work then we have to work together".
She was concerned, at first it was just being the Luna that mattered, but as the ocassion drew nearer, she felt different.
What use was a mate who did not care? The mating ceremony might impound some feelings on him, but what did she really want? love or a crown?.
Wolfs sometimes choose mates even if they were not destined.
Destined mates are matches made by the Moon goddess herself, but sometimes wolfs tend to have some feelings for other persons and they mate with them.
The mating strengthens the bond with its unique powers and sometimes, it can match a destined mate but her case was different.
It was more like a chosen mate but without the feeling, the only feeling that would exist was the one that would be from the mating process.
She liked him, but he didn't like her that was where the problem was.
"You are having seconds thoughts all of a sudden?" He scoffed, that was impossible.
Ever since the arrangement, she had been parading herself with pride, he didn't think she would give the Luna titte up for anything, he didn't care much to address the issue because he was after Xavier.
"Am not, but I would want us to work together" The arrangement was what she had always wanted but now she wanted more, she wanted his heart.
"Sarafina you will have the mating ceremony and the mating bond, now leave my room". He ordered.
Sarafina wanted to stay and say more but the Alpha had spoken, if she insisted he would use authority and only a Luna can stand that which she was not, at least not yet.
"Xavier.." Kelan said to himself after he heard her slam the door.
He blamed himself for how things turned out, he should have dealt with it without involving the witches.
A mate was a strong part of a wolf that is always an opposite gender, one could not bear to see His or her mate hurt let alone hurting the mate themselves, what would Xavier do he wondered?
It was the uncertainty that made him look for Xavier the more.
Craine who would have lend a helping hand but he didn't really care, he didn't have a mate.
Craine knew what it felt like to have a mate, all wolves do but he didn't give much thought to it.
He has lived centuries without one, it was not something he could not survive without.
The madness that the mate bond imposes on people only begins after the mating, he had no need or desire to invoke that suffering on himself.
Xavier could choose to find his mate or not, he didn't bother and what he chose to do with her was fairly his business.
Kelan however was bothered, Xavier was the youngest and he always lived free, he felt responsible for him.
When what happened centuries ago happened, Three packs pledged loyalty to him but he revoked his Alpha Tittle, and lived with his brother Kelan instead.
All was well until Xavier got sick again and after exhausting all measures, Kelan had to turn to Chess and her coven and that was his biggest regret.
Even though wolves and witches didn't mix well, they were allies in desperate times and his brothers health condition as it was, was something more than desperate.
Craine however didn't care to contribute and even though he sent him messages, Craine did not reply.
He had issues with Craine but why would Craine not bother about Xavier? He wanted to understand that but he didn't have time to exhaust it for now.
Kelan looked outside the window, he could not see the end of his territory, he had a vast land indeed and he had protected it the best he could for centuries, but right now, all he wanted was Xavier.
He was still in his thought when Chess appeared in his room.
"I think its a little too much for you to visit me without an invitation" he spoke without looking at her, it had been more than half an hour since she arrived and she did not utter a word.
"Kelan you can blame me all you want but I only did what you asked of me". She took a seat by his bed and straighten her shoulder.
"I said to heal my brother" he said calmly " I did not ask you to turn him into a beast" his last sentence was full of hate.
"Your brother made this bargain long before now, he knew". Chess was clearly unbothered by Xaivier's disappearance.
"But I didn't" Kelan countered.
"Kelan though our kind are not friends we are not enemies either and I would love to help" Chess captured her eyes in his, it was burning red but she was not afraid.
"You gave me help years ago and now look where your help got me" he said disgusted.
"I brought you a gift" she said ignoring what he said and waved her hand at his door.
A Fae appeared bounded by chains.
Kelan's eyes lit up when he saw the Fae, he went closer to her and squatted.
She was looking exhausted from pain he could be not imagine what the witches did to her.
"We tried but we got nothing out of her" Chess informed him.
"Where is my brother?" he asked the fae, ignoring Chess.
"How should I know?" She questioned back.
"Am not usually nice but am going beyond my limits to ask you again, where can I find my brother?" his red eyes looked as though they would be ablaze at any moment.
"In a place where I can't tell you" The fae replied enduring pain from her bleeding wounds.
Kelan opened his mouth and threatened her with his elongated fangs, they were as sharp as a sword sharpened by a perfect wet stone.
"They tried the manticore on me, I am not going to say a thing". in her eyes was a strong determination, she was clearly not going to cooperate.
Her hostility could be understood given the way witches hunted them down in their own home but Kelan didn't have time for such understanding, before long his fangs were in her and she wailed.
"Where did Xavier go?" he asked again when he took his fangs out of her.
"I can't and I won't tell you" she was definite.
"Then you leave me no choice" he said and his eyes turned yellow..
"No!" Freya screamed but she was too late, his eyes met the Faes and he was digging dip into her essence.
The minute he saw Xavier, the connection ended.
"Uhhhh.." He gasped, it was as though he was intoxicated.
"What did you get?" Freya asked him.
"I need more time" he said but when he looked down, the fae was lying like a heap of banana peels, she was dead.
"You killed her" Chess voice had an acusing tone.
"Stop sounding like a saint" True, she was not.
"Kelan do you know how difficult it is to get a fea?
"You Lock them in cages I suppose it must be hard" he mocked.
"Kelan I also needed that Fae" yes she brought him the Fae but it was only right that he obtained her consent before killing her.
"And yet you bring her to me, how selfless of you" he mocked again.
"Does pride run in your blood or is that a personal trait?" Chess had wondered for a long time.
"Are all witches self centered or is that a cultivated habit?". he fired her a taste of her own pill.
"I tried to help you" She was clearly upset about what happened.
"And your help is much appreciated" he used a towel to wipe off the blood on his lips.
"How much do you know?" Chess askedm
"He is alive" he said unimpressed by his findings.
Of course Craine had to be alive he would know if he was dead.
"Thats all?" Chess too was clearly disappointed.
"No landmarks no descriptive boards nothing to place where he is?"
"He was in a shower if that makes you feel better or sounds more precise" he gulped down a glass of wine.
Chess made an annoying sound before she disappeared, she was very much upset.
The minute she left, Kelan's face changed countenance.
"How the hell did that happen?" he asked himself.
"What the f**k was Xavier doing there?.
