Chapter 10

1388 Words
Lucas rolled his sleeves up and threw his bag on, he was running late for class and his sister Veni had left with Swan earlier. It was strange that Swan came to take his sister to school, Their closeness these days was alarming but it was okay by everyone, it wasn't as though Swan was a stranger, he lived next door. "When will I go to school?" Soya asked him, her beautiful eyes popping out. "Soon" he touched her cheeks and smiled. "Mum said Tanya would be coming to stay with us is that true?" "Soya am not sure". Soya didn't like Tanya, admitting that Tanya was dropping by was the extension of that discussion and he was already late for school. "I don't want her to come" Soya was honest about her opinion, Tanya was not someone she liked there was no need hiding it. "I think you should tell mum" Lucas changed his wristwatch. "She won't listen, she knows I don't want Tanya here". the little girl was almost tearing up. "Hey my cutie.." He lifted her up. "Tanya won't be staying long if she comes and we can always play outside when she wolfs out". "Am scared" Soya squeezed there thumb against her eyes. "Don't be, Mum would be here and so would Veni and I won't let a fly hurt you" he twirled her round and sat her on the couch. "I want to see the sparks today" she stated rather than ask. "It's going to be Yoka moon today we can but promise we will get back before supper". She gets lost in moments like that. "I promise " she shook her head. The problem with Soya was her love for the streets, it was undescribable. Lucas made his way to the kitchen and dug his hand on the one thing that kept him home for this long. "You will never change" his mum said almost hiting his hand. "As long as I get these" he stuffed it in his mouth and headed out. "Away from trouble and out of peoples business" his mum called after him. She knew her son, Lucas hardly listened but could he be blamed? he got his father's attribute. Lucas was her second child with her late husband Horn, he died from an event she tried hard to bury in her heart, it was seeming impossible but she kept it away from her children. Veni her older child had an idea but she was not sure, the young girl was lively and lovely, she didn't give her much trouble and she was thankful for that but Lucas was a different story and so was his sister Soya. Soya was the last and very wild. She was nice and kind to people especially her uncle Gomez but not to Tanya and Grey whatever they two did to her, no one could tell. Even Lucas who was closest to her didn't know but Lucas in truth never cared to ask. Though she was just a child in their world, he allowed her the perks of an adult, the girl should keep something's to herself but their mother was worried. When Horn died, she felt as though her world had ended, it was same for all her kind but it was more intense for her, the mate bond only justified her pain but her pain went beyond that bond. She wanted to be close to her children, protect them and be their guide but the moon goddess must have retired to bed the time she made her wishes, none of her children wanted that protection and they all seemed to have picked a path without needing guidance. Her worry however was much on Lucas, he had too much responsibilities without even knowing them. As he whistled down the road he wondered why he had to hide who and what he was, his mum said it was imperative to keep their secret but she never said why. He wanted to kick the Dawner's ass in school, it was something he desperately wanted. Dawners were a group of self elected elites in school who looked down on almost everyone and he hated them with no exception but there was nothing he could do about it. He was about ten minutes late and he wondered if Davina would still be waiting for him but from a distance he saw her and that wicked smirk on her face meant she wasn't angry. "Pretty, sure you don't need that belt in its hole?" Davina joked at his belt sticking out. "Oh jeez.." He slipped it in. "I saw Veni passed earlier.. what kept you long?". "Mum was making pan cakes, I couldn't afford to miss it" he winked. Davina gave him that look that was stuck between funny and pale. Could he ever grow up?. By the time they both got to school, everyone had settled in. Davina sat with Modred while Lucas took his seat by Wofy. While Davina prayed for the session to end, Lucas thoughts were not within sight. There were moments when he would wonder how or why his father died though his mum claimed it was an accident he doubted it to his bones. One of the packs caused his fathers death but he didnt know which one or how, it was impossible to figure that out since his mum wouldn't say anything and Veni, well Veni was Veni. They two were siblings but they were hardly together at school, Veni went most times alone except when she meets someone along while Lucas went with Davina all the time. Not that the two had issues it was just a thing with Veni, most times she wanted to be left alone but she was quite protective of her brother, the Dawners would testify to that. When it came to Soya it was very different, the two were not like most sisters. Lucas didn't care much about the relationship between Veni and Soya, of a truth whatever relationship Soya had with anyone stayed out of his concern, Soya was only a child by appearance, she thought like an adult. "Too much to think?" Davina tapped his desk and brought him back to reality. "Hmm hmm.. Class over?" He asked he didnt notice the class was over. "The little puppy didn't know class was over" someone said in a loud voice. That voice was familiar to everyone and they crew he had with him bursted out in laughter. "Maybe the puppy needs his sister to start bringing him to class and help him out" another voice spoke. Lucas clutched his hands tight and his nails grew taller, his eyes were changing color when Davina put her hand over his long nails. His eyes met hers and she shook her head, as though it was magic, his nails went back and his eyes turned normal. The boy to speak first came over and threw a punch at the table before Lucas. "What? Your girlfriend consoling you?" He mocked. "You stay out of our path Fave" Davina bitched out. "This is getting interesting" the boy leaned in. "show me what you got b***h". Davina fisted but then Lucas held her back. "It's not worth it" he said in a whisper that was loud enough to be heard by everyone. "Excuse me?" Rowdy who was in front of them and directly blocking their path stood up to his full length. "I don't want to fight you" Lucas said calmly. "That's because your big sister is not here to help" The guy mocked again. "Easy now" Davina was getting angry. "Something the b***h want to say?". Rowdy came up close, breaching the gap between them. This time, Davina landed a slap on his face before the seconds could click twice. It wasn't intentional, she just felt a surge of electricity driven by anger and exhaustion but the taste was sweet. "Damn.." a random guy gasped. That was intense. Rowdy didn't look up but everyone knew the Atmosphere had changed, his man crew all stood up and anger was written ob their faces.. "Uhn uhn.." thesame guy who gasped earlier shook his head when he saw the Dawners mood. The scenery was not looking good, this girl whoever she was just bargained for a chart she wasn't ready for.
