Ryan’s pov:
“Mr. Ryan Kings, Mia Beckett, our business development manager, and Kira Brown, her friend,” Felix said just as the ladies came in.
I turned my attention to Mia briefly to acknowledge her presence. She’s a stunning blonde with a confident smile.
“A pleasure to finally meet you, Mr. Kings,” Mia said, her hand extended.
I took her hand. “The pleasure is mine,” I replied, my voice smooth.
“And Kira,” I said, turning my attention back to Kira, “it’s lovely to meet you.”
Kira’s eyes met mine, a hint of shyness in her gaze. “Hi,” she said shyly.
I smiled. Taking in her appearance up close, she was beautiful, in an unsure way, like she didn’t know it, couldn’t even care less. Her beauty and innocence captivated me. There was a vulnerability to her, a sense of uncertainty that added to her charm. She seemed to be hiding behind her eyes, like she was afraid to let her true self shine through.
I turned to Derek and smirked briefly, he shook his head slightly and took a sip of his glass. He knew, just like I did, that women like Kira were my weakness. I don’t know why, but there’s always something about vulnerable women that go to, women I could shield and protect, women that saw me as their knight in shinning armor.
It was a dangerous game, one that I’ve played before. But I couldn’t help myself, I was drawn to her like a moth to a flame.
“So, Kira,” I said, my voice low and husky as she took a seat and got handed a glass of wine by a waiter, “what is it you do?” I asked, genuinely intrigued.
Kira's eyes met mine, and she smiled slightly. “I'm a writer,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
I raised an eyebrow, my interest piqued. “Really?” I said, taking a sip of my wine. "What kind of writing do you do? "
Kira's eyes dropped, and she fidgeted with her glass. “Just freelance stuff, nothing too exciting,” she said, her voice laced with humility.
I leaned in, my eyes locked on hers. “I think it's exciting,” I said, my voice low and encouraging. “I'd love to hear more about it.”
Kira's eyes never left mine, and I could sense her hesitation.
Finally, she spoke up. “I write articles and short stories,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “Nothing too serious, just things that interest me.”
I nodded, my eyes never leaving hers. “That sounds amazing,” I said. “I've always been fascinated by writers. You have a way of seeing the world that's so unique.”
Kira's eyes sparkled with pleasure, and she smiled slightly. “Thanks,” she said, her voice a little stronger now. “ I love writing. It's my escape. "
I nodded, understanding exactly what she meant. “I know what you mean,” I said, taking a sip of my wine. Glancing at Derek, who was watching with interest. "Derek, you should get Kira’s contact information. Maybe one of these days we’ll need a writer with her skills", i added.
Derek nodded, his eyes never leaving Kira's face. “I'll make sure to get it,” he said, his voice low and smooth.
Kira's cheeks flushed slightly, and she looked down at her wine glass. “That would be great,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
And like an afterthought I quickly added, “or maybe, if it’s okay with you, we could talk more about this outside, yea?” And without waiting for her response i got up from my seat.
Shaking hands with Felix and Bob, I said, “my secretary will schedule a meeting and inform you of the details, just you two and your development manager ”. I nodded slightly at Mia, who smiled back in return. “Thank you for a lovely evening, then to Kira, who was looking at me with a mix of surprise and curiosity. I offered her my hand, helping her up from her seat. “Shall we?” I asked, my eyes locked on hers.
