I headed to the dorm room after I’ve been dropped off. There was no sign of the girls when I showed up. Thinking that they were probably already having dinner. I took the opportunity to hide the envelope between my stuff and then decided to grab something to eat.
Ruby almost stumbled into me when I stepped outside of the room. “Hey! I was just beginning to wonder if you will be joining me for dinner.” She exclaimed.
“Where’s Janelle?” I asked, falling into a step with her as we made our way out.
She pulled up her shoulders. “No idea.” She answered. “I thought she was maybe with you.”
“I haven’t seen her since this morning when Travis dropped us off.” Maybe she was hanging out with the guys. They used to be friends after all.
We joined Ruby’s friends after we ordered our food and spotted them. My mind kept drifting back to Elizabeth’s invitation and the fact that she wanted me to join the audition for a spot on her team. Every single dancer would tell me that I am dumb for not accepting her invitation or showing my excitement. I put all that behind me because it was part of the poison that almost ruined me.
I lifted my gaze when I saw Janelle walking up to our table. “So, what are we having for dinner?” She asked. Sitting down next to me and greeted everyone.
“Depends,” I answered. “How strict is your diet?” I asked, teasing her.
She rolled her eyes at me. “What’s on your mind?” I shrugged my shoulders. “I saw the look on your face from the minute I entered the place. You seemed to be deeply absorbed in your thoughts.” She acknowledged.
“Just stuff,” I replied. I wasn’t in the mood to talk about it. I don’t like talking about my problems especially when it comes to my mother or dancing. I don’t look like your typical dancer and people kept pointing it out. It’s the same kind of thing when it comes to people who listen to a certain kind of genre of music. Whether is classical or metal. They expect you to look a certain way. Which is dumb. What will people say if I tell them that I can listen to every single genre that exists? If a song is catchy. I will listen to it. The same with dancing, skateboard and surfing. I like trying something different even though it’s not my passion.
That’s what hobbies are for. To never get bored.
We only live life to ten pct. Why not go all the way? Why must we only settle for ten pct?
“There you go again,” Janelle noted. Poking the side of my face with her finger.
I gave her a narrowed look. “I have a few things on my mind that I don’t particularly want to talk about. Don’t tell me that you’ve never felt that way?” I grabbed my drink and finished it in one big gulp.
“Sometimes it is called overthinking.” She pointed out.
“And sometimes is just called thinking,” I remarked.
She left me and thinking alone further the evening. We finished up our food and drinks before calling it a night. Together we headed back to the dorms. Janelle and I were taking our sweet time while Ruby was anxious to get to the room but she came to a sudden halt when she reached for the door.
“What’s wrong?” I asked when she just starred at the door.
“Did we lock the door before we left?” She asked me.
I pulled up my shoulders. “I don’t think so.” I wasn’t too worried because there was 24hr security downstairs.
“I think I heard laughter coming from our room.” She then confessed.
“Why didn’t you start with that first?” Janelle grumbled.
Ruby pulled a face and then stuck out her tongue. “So mature, Ruby,” Janelle muttered.
Ruby just blew her off. I decided to check out Ruby’s suspicion while they were bickering. I pushed the door open and my brows snapped together when I found a guy and girl making out on top of Ruby’s bed. The girl was down to her underwear while the guy was still fully clothed except for his shirt that he has taken off. They were too busy having a hot make-out session that they didn’t realize we were standing in the doorway. Before it got even more awkward and before the guy could think about unhooking the girl’s bra. I slammed my hand against the door quite hard to give them a heads up.
“Funs over kids!” I exclaimed watching them jump apart. The girl scrambled for something to cover up.
“What are you doing, freak?!” The girl screamed at me.
I felt Ruby shuffling restlessly behind me. “This is our room, buttercup,” I told the girl.
At first, she didn’t believe me until she scanned the room. Her face turned crimson. “Oh.” She mumbled, disorderly. Either they were intoxicated or they were just highly aroused that they didn’t realize they entered the wrong room.
“Yeah, so get your butts out of our room before we call security,” Janelle said from beside me.
We stepped out of our room to give the girl some privacy to get dressed. “What’s going on?” Ruby asked.
I lowered myself in a crouch position with my back resting against the wall. “We have trespassers.” She seemed baffled.
“They were almost going to have s*x but we interrupted them,” Janelle told her.
Ruby lifted an eyebrow. “Don’t worry. We dealt with them.” I assured her.
I watched her reaction when the door opened and the guy was the first to make his way out. Her face transformed into utter embarrassment when the guy winked at her.
She visibly swallowed making me raise both of my eyebrows.
"You want to go ask him for his number?" I asked getting her attention as she was looking at his retreating form.
"That's disgusting, no!" She exclaimed.
I chuckled at her response and pushed myself to my feet. "It almost looked that way," I noted.
She gave me a glare but it got redirected when the girl finally stepped out of the room. “I am really sorry about that.” The girl apologized and then walked away.
“I think that is the most excitement Ruby’s bed has seen in two years.” Janelle joked when we entered our room.
Ruby looked at us confused until she figured out what Janelle said.
She cursed softly and pulled off the linens from the bed. I gave her a questioning look. “What are you doing?” I asked watching her throwing the linens into a basket.
“I don’t know what they did on my bed and I am definitely not going to roll over it.” Janelle laughed at her.
“They didn’t get a chance to do something because we kind of interrupted their fun,” Janelle told her.
“I don’t care. I don’t want my linens to smell like either of them.” She walked out and if I have to guess. She was going to the washroom to get her linens washed.
Janelle and I shared a laugh. “I am going to take a shower,” I said to her while she was getting changed.
I spent a couple of minutes in the shower while the water rushed through my hair. Still thinking about what to do about Elizabeth’s invite. I was considering my options. I know I said that I want to start over and help other people but there was this feeling inside of my chest of wanting to help myself first. My feelings also mattered.
I also deserve happiness like any other.
“Shit.” I cursed when I realized that I didn’t bring any clean clothes. With a towel wrapped around me, I headed out back to the room.
I heard a round of shrieks coming from our room.
Confused. I entered the room and found myself standing face to face with a wide-eye Travis and Zack. “What are you doing here?” I asked crossing my arms in front of my chest to keep the towel from falling and then looked at Janelle who was covered in paint.
It was too late for me to get away when Travis threw me with a balloon. I yelped when the cold liquid of paint splattered all over me. Every muscle in my body wanted to reach for him and beat him up but I was afraid of my towel getting lost in the fight.
“Hey, what’s…” I couldn’t warn Ruby in time because Zack threw her with a balloon. She screamed when the paint splattered all over her clean lines and face. She dropped the basket and wanted to run away but Zack caught her around the waist. He popped a balloon and rubbed the paint all over her face.
Travis threw me also with another when he realized that I wasn’t going to do anything.
They continued to throw us with paint balloons until the very last one was used.
Janelle somehow stole a balloon and smashed it on top of Travis’ head. I took the opportunity to punch him while he was taken by surprise. He slipped through my wet and slippery fingers caused by the paint and ran out of the room. After saving Zack from Ruby’s wrath.
“I’m going to kill him!” Ruby bellowed when she took a look at her linens.
“I just took a freaken shower,” I noted, deadpanned.
Janelle didn’t look any happier. “He ruined my books.” She complained.
"What the hell was that?" Janelle asked, trying to save her books.
"That was us being pranked." And outplayed by Travis and his buddy, Zack.
"I'm so going to get him for this and he is going to regret this moment for the rest of his life when I get my revenge," I mumbled making a promise that he just messed with the queen of pranks.
