Chapter 5

"Eloise?" She whirled around in surprise, that voice sounded so familiar. She was certain, she had heard that voice somewhere but where exactly. A middle aged woman, walked out of the palace with a smile on her face. "It's really you, Eloise!" She exclaimed, the smile on her face growing wider. Eloise smiled awkwardly, she was trying so hard to recall where she had heard that voice from but it seems like a part of her memories had gone cause she couldn't remember a single thing, she had no idea who the woman in front of her was. "You don't remember me, don't you? It's okay, I'm Ophelia" she said, still with a smile on her face. She couldn't hide her happiness, seeing Eloise once again. It had been years and she was happy that the little girl had grown up. She was pretty, just like her mother. "Madam Ophelia?" "Yes, James told me a lady was looking for me. If I had known it was you, I would have come out much earlier. I'm sorry for making you wait, Eloise" she apologized, seeing how the young girl looked. Her clothes were wet and covered in mud, her face was pale and looking at it, she was certain that the girl would fall sick in no time. "I'm glad I found you, Madam Ophelia " she muttered, trying to control her tears. She wouldn't be homeless after all, she was now in the palace and she was going to start a whole new life. "Let's go in, shall we?" She nodded her head in approval and they both walked in through the gates. Her eyes were on the huge building in front of her, the magnificent building that looked out of this world. Instead of going through the front door, Ophelia took her through the back entrance of the palace. "The Alpha is having a meeting with the elders, we would get ourselves in trouble going through the front door " Ophelia explained, clearing Eloise's doubts. They were maids after all, servants of lower status meant to follow their master's instructions. They passed through a series of passages and after walking for what felt like forever, they finally reached a door leading to the royal kitchen. Ophelia unlocked the door and pulled it open, walking in together with Eloise. The maids were walking around, some with trays in their hands while some were busy serving. They were so caught up with their work and failed to notice Eloise and Ophelia. Not wanting to disturb them, Ophelia decided to introduce Eloise later to the maids and took her to the servant's quarter where she would be staying. Maybe it was because of how weak her body was at that moment, Eloise couldn't find it in her to admire the palace. She felt like the energy that was left in her body was completely drained out and she just wanted to lay her head on a bed and sleep. "Here, you will be staying here" said Ophelia, opening the door to one of the rooms in the passage. Ophelia walked in first and after a while, Eloise followed behind. "You will be sharing it with Penelope but she isn't in the palace right now. She went to visit her mother back in her village, so until she returns you have the room to yourself" "Thank you, Madam Ophelia," she showed her gratitude with a bow. She will never forget how she helped her when she was at her lowest, she will be forever indebted to her. "That's the least I could do for you. You can take a bath in the room beside yours and I will ask someone to send you new clothes. You can also rest for the day and if you want to, you can decide to work in the palace," Ophelia added with a small smile on her face. She doesn't have to be told before she knows that Samuel had sent her here. And she was grateful to him for sending Eloise to her, that way she could repay her debts to her. Ophelia stared at Eloise for a while before walking out of the room and leaving Eloise all alone to herself. Immediately, she went to the room she would be staying in which had a bathtub, removed her dirty dress and climbed into the bathtub. She had to wash her body over and over again to get rid of the dirt on her skin. She couldn't help but think back to the silver eyed man she met at the forest. She doesn't know why but she couldn't get him out of her mind. She had a lot of questions she wanted to ask him, why he decided to spare her life and why he killed that poor woman even though she knew that was none of her concern but still...she wanted to see him once again. She came out of the bathtub and changed into the dress Ophelia sent for her. She went back to her new room and laid on the small bed. She covered her body with a blanket she saw on the bed after returning back to the room. She still felt sick but she had gotten used to hiding her sickness ever since she was child. Eloise gazed through the tiny window, it was now past midnight and a few hours from then it would be dawn. The rain was now drizzling and the weather wasn't as cold as before. Her Aunt must have really despised her for having sent her packing the other evening when she clearly knew how dangerous it was. Her small face had always reminded her of her mother, they had the same behavior and she treated her exactly like how her mother used to. The only difference between her mother and her aunt was that her mother hated her more than her aunt. She let out a huge sigh, as her thoughts drifted off to the silver eyed man once again. She was now at the palace and she was certain that they would never meet again. She closed her eyes and soon enough fell asleep with a sad smile on her face.
