Chapter 4

1022 Words
Little Eloise opened her eyes, regaining her consciousness. She was in a room, she was back home... "Mama?" Little Eloise winced in pain, she was back to her home and her mother was beside her. She was happy, happy that she was back home to her parents but when she noticed her mother's angry expression she couldn't help but be scared. "Why did you go to the forest, Eloise? I warned you didn't I, so tell me why you went there, my child?" Her mother questioned, with a cold expression on her face. Her eyes were cold and had no warmth in there. Instead the little girl could see her mother's anger and also...hatred. "Mama...I..." She tried to think of the right words to say, a single mistake on her part and her mother would lock her up just like she always did and starve her for an entire day. She wasn't afraid of that but she was more afraid of being all alone in the darkness, she was more scared of the darkness. "What did you see in the forest, Eloise?" Her mother asked her once again, holding her hands and caressing it. "A scary monster mama," she responded, her eyes welled up with tears. She knew her mother was getting angry and the more angry she got, the more it would be for her to escape her mother's wrath. "Hmm, then let me tell you a story. You do want to listen to your mother's story don't you?" She smiled but that smile made Eloise uneasy and more scared. She nodded her head in approval, waiting for her mother to begin her story. She was tired, she wanted to lay her head down and go to sleep but she wouldn't tell her mother that. If she did, she might...kill her. "The creatures of the night, Eloise. I will tell you about the creatures of the night..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eloise slowly opened her eyes, looking in front of her to see no one. She was all alone, meaning the silver eyed man had left and spared her life. Her lips broke into a smile but a sad one. She held onto her luggages and walked as fast as she could out of the forest. The rain had come to a stop when the silver eyed man killed the poor woman but her clothes were dirty and her body was still weak. She walked as fast as her legs could take her and finally, she reached the gates of the palace. She stood in front of the huge castle, admiring the building. There were lots of things going on in her mind, lots of questions about her future and if she was going to survive in the palace all alone, their town was ruled by the creatures of the night after all. A werewolf was their king, and that was enough to make her more scared. "Who are you?" A man's voice sounded behind the bars of the gate, bringing Eloise out of her world. She turned her gaze to the man in front of her, who was putting on a guard uniform. She walked to the gate and greeted the man with a bow. "I'm here to see Madam Ophelia, please? " The guard furrowed his brows, staring at her with a confused expression on his face. He looked down at her clothes and felt disgusted with a dirty person like her trying to go into the palace. "Strangers ain't allowed in the palace, just go back home lady" he said with disdain and without waiting for her to reply, he turned around and left. "But...sir!" She called, hoping he would at least stop and hear her out but he didn't and that was what she needed for her tears to fall. She was not even allowed to meet Madam Ophelia which means she was now alone and had nowhere to go. Why did life keep playing with her feelings over and over again? Wasn't she pitiful enough?! Left with no choice, she decided to sit in front of the gates. She was going to wait there all night until someone decided to see her. She had gone through a lot to reach the palace and there's no way she would be leaving without seeing Madam Ophelia. Her eyes were red and her headache had worsened and the cold weather wasn't helping at all. If this continues then she might really die in the cold, it looks like she was really meant to die that evening. "What are you doing over there?" A voice asked softly. Eloise raised her head, staring at the man in front of her who was carrying a box of vegetables. For a while, she couldn't help but be mesmerized by his handsome face. His green eyes, his crimson brown eyes and his perfectly curved jaw would leave any lady drooling. "Are you okay?" He asked, his tone was laced with worry and that was enough to melt Eloise's heart. She stood up and bowed to the man, "Yes...yes, I'm fine" she responded almost immediately, trying to hide her dirty dress. "Are you lost?" "No...I'm here to look for Madam Ophelia, she's the head maid in the palace but the guard won't allow me to go in," said Eloise with a small smile on her face. "Oh! Why don't you wait for me here and I'll get her to you, okay?" He assured her and without waiting for her to give him a reply, he knocked on the gate and the guard from earlier came out to open the gate. He entered and the guard glared at her when he noticed that she was still standing there. There's no way he would allow a beggar to go into the palace. He locked the gate and went back to him, leaving Eloise all alone once again. "What if he forgets?" Eloise mumbled silently in fear. He did say he was going to inform Madam Ophelia but what if he forgot about her? Then she would have no way of getting into the palace and she might really die. "Eloise?"
