The blaring of siren alerted me as l drew near to our humble abode.l quickened my steps my heart pounding hard in my chest.As l drew near, l could see a small crowd gathered outside our house.Immediately, l felt fear creeping in that a worst thought made my conscience unsettling.Slowly l made my way through the crowd only for the scene to unfold before me. A dead body was being brought out of our house that sent cold shivers down my spine.The air around me became tight and suffocating unable to gather my thoughts clearly. No! no! no.! My thoughts battled in my mind .All the sounds around me turned into silence , my ears ringing. Mother! The thought of loosing her was unsettling.l watched in a blank stare as the body was taken into the police caravan.My knees felt weak that l could barely stand .It felt as if everything around me didn't matter at all.l still couldn't figure out what to do. As l stood there zoned out , l felt a warm hand on my shoulder that startled me.In instinct , l turned to see who it was. A tall blonde man with sky blue eyes stood before me.He was tall in stature more like an actor out of a Hollywood film.He had a clean shaven look making him look in his mid thirties.He brought a warm aura with him that made her feel safe around him.He smiled down back at her. l wiped my tears with my the sleeve of my shirt as l stared back at him.In a soft voice,l asked, "who are you sir?" "I'm Marcus ,....a friend of your.... mother."his voice trailed off, "Marcus?" The sound of that name felt familiar.l had heard it once from one of my mother's conversations. "You're a friend of my mother's." "Yes.I am really sorry for what happened...l.."Before he could finish he was interrupted by a police officer who had approached us. He stood tall with a commanding aura , an unreadable expression. "Officer Morales." he stretched his hand to Marcus, his voice firm. Marcus responded by stretching his im greeting. "We have done a background check and found out that she has no close relatives.According to the law she is to be taken I to an orphanage where she can be provided with the essential needs until when she will get a foster family."
