Chapter 3

1937 Words
The dolphins swam towards  Xander. They raised Aiosha's body a little above the water as if they were trying to hand her to him. Xander was taken a little by surprise. Aiosha in her siren form was something out of greek mythology. When he pulled her unconscious body into his arms, he realized why the dolphins were moving so slow. She was heavy. Not grown man heavy but small car heavy. Her wings were wrapped around her and her tail swayed with the current.      All Xander could do was use the ocean to float her body to the beach. There was no way he would be able to lift her.  After he dragged her on to the warm sand, he had no clue how to treat her or identify what ailed her. What he did know was that she didn't have any wounds. He couldn't remove the heavy backpack because of her wings. He ran back into the house and got a knife out of the drawer in the kitchen. He hoped that if the backpack was important that she would forgive him but he needed to try and lighten her load.     Xander ran back to Aiosha's body, ignoring the fact that he was completely naked, and worked to unravel her wings. When he pulled the wings open he realized she wasn't wearing a top. He gazed longingly at her big voluptuous breasts for a short time before he snapped himself out of his trance. He leaned over her and cut the straps to the backpack and moved it away from her body.      He put his ear to her chest to check for a heart beat. Her heart was beating weakly. “She may have just over exerted herself.” He thought to himself. He decided that he would bring some blankets to the beach and lay with her. But first, clothes. He looked in the back pack and pulled out some shorts and a t-shirt. After getting dressed, he ran back into the house and grabbed a couple of sheets. Because of Aiosha's tail, 1 sheet would not be enough.     He grabbed her arms and attempted to drag her further from the water.  After a few feet he was tired but she was better off than before. He wrapped her tail in the sheet. Then he stuck a large beach umbrella he found, in the sand  above her head.  He put the blanket over them then pulled her into his chest.  Her body was fairly cold but he knew she wasn't dead. After about 10 minutes, he started to drift off to sleep.      When Aiosha opened her eyes, it was night time. She could hear Xander's heart beat. His body was warm.He held her tight as if he was trying to protect her. She looked up at him. This was the face she had longed to see. Then she realized she was in her true form. [Oh no..he saw!]  Her heart just about jumped out of her chest. She wasn't ready for him to see this side of her. "You held me and stayed with me while I was in my siren form." Aiosha said to Xander while he slept. She couldn't believe it. He was accepting her unconditionally.     She closed her eyes and reimagined herself in her human form without thinking. She forgot she would then be naked in his arms. She tried to scoot herself loose but he had a pretty good grip on her. "Xander! Xander! Wake up!" She called out. When Xander opened his eyes and saw Aiosha was awake. He smiled and pulled her closer into him then he realized she was naked. "I'm so sorry!" He said, then jumped up, leaving the cover on Aiosha. "It's okay. Thank you for taking care of me." "Don't scare me like that. Next time stay the night in Chile and then come back. I stayed up all last night worried out of my mind that I was losing you" he said sternly. "I promise. I was just worried you'd be gone when I came back. I got nervous." she said shyly. "I think we are both a little excited to have someone, even if we are fairly new to each other." Xander laughed nervously. He laid back down on the sand and stared up at the stars.  "Aiosha, I am a 28 year old man that has never been in any form of relationship. I have never had a general conversation with a woman that wasn't a part of a scientific experiment until now. I don't know if I can make you happy. I am literally playing all of this by ear." He turned on his side and looked at Aiosha. "What I am saying is, I am a useless 28 year old virgin. Now that I said it out loud, I am more terrified of being rejected by you."  Xander laughed nervously again and looked down at the sand. "Xander, I am a 203 year old virgin and a Siren, who has been alone for 78 years. I have only read about love and relationships. So we are going to make things up together. If you are still okay with me?" "oh yeah. I am not going anywhere, if that's okay with you?"  Xander and Aiosha smiled at each other. They were 2 lonely people who needed each other. "Have you eaten? Let's head to the house and get some food and some clothes."  Aiosha wrapped the blanket around her body and walked behind Xander quietly back to their home.     One month after Xander came into her life, Aiosha had determined that she had been dying for the past 78 years, not living. She had never had a friend like him. They read books by the same author then discussed what they thought the purpose of the story was and tried to determine the author's writing style. She had so much fun laying on the beach reading. He stayed in her immediate line of sight all the time, except for bathroom breaks, of course.      He was a funny guy. His innocence made a lot of things he said adorable and goofy. She still kept her distance from him, physically though. Everything about his broad shoulders and large hands made her nervous.  While they sat at the breakfast table discussing what to have for dinner, Aiosha became quiet. She fiddled with her fingers and stared at the table. At that moment, she thought about the steps she was getting ready to take. She wished she had the courage to hold his hand. She needed his support.      After the first day they met, Aiosha asked Xander not to walk around the island. The island was sacred to her. She promised him that when she felt comfortable she would give him a tour. Today was that day. What she had to share with him hurt her soul but it was time to rip the bandage off.      "Xander, I am ready." Aiosha said without making eye contact with him. "Ready for what?" "I need to show you the island. There are things I need you to know about my kind for both of our safety." Xander stared at Aiosha. Since they met his feelings were in tune with hers. He felt a deep sadness that made him want to hug her.  "Can I hold your hand? I mean...while we walk of course. I wouldn't want to get lost." He said then looked away from her. "Yea. We wouldn't want you to get dragged off by a large condor or something. " Aiosha laughed. She was glad he wasn't ignoring their connection. She felt it too. "You have condors that big!!" Xander said. Aiosha ignored him and got up from the table. "Shall we?" She held out her hand. Xander stared at her and then gently grabbed it with his. "Yes. Let's go." Her hand was so small within his grasp and his was so warm. She guided him out through the back patio. They walked in silence until they reached the first house. This was the house that Xander could see the most from the back of Aiosha's house.     "You know during storms like hurricanes and  tsunamis,  we have to use our song or life force to protect our individual property. The barrier only lasts 24 hours so we have to gauge the best time to use it. I can only protect my home. After that, I would pass out. The sound barrier that conceals this island goes down. When I wake up, there is only fear.     Fear that someone may have noticed this island, fear that the storm wasn't over and I may have lost everything. This house was my cousin's house."Aiosha  squeezed Xander's hand. She knew if she made eye contact she would cry. "My cousin's song was one of rage, in fact 50 % of sirens are natural destroyers. She was tired of feeling the pain in her chest. She wanted to call a pirate ship to doom then feast on their bodies. So she left for South Africa and I never heard from her again. " "How do you know she died?" Xander asked while standing in front of the ruins. "I felt it. I felt her song. I heard the chaotic melody. I think if she was to sing her song outside of the island, it would sound like lyrics to a heavy metal song." Aiosha pulled Xander to move forward. There was a cool breeze moving the palm trees from side to side.      Xander watched Aiosha trying to be strong talking about her deceased family.  "Did you ever wonder how I can afford food and clothes?"  "I did but I never thought to ask." "Every piece of treasure from every shipwreck ,or event, we have ever caused is buried in this island. You can only reach the vault via the ocean. It's a 150 mile swim. So I try to make sure I only spend what I need. Sleeping in those caverns is terrifying and lonely." "Are you immortal?" "Yes but I can die like any human. Some of my people confused immortality with invincibility.Which caused their demise eventually. "  After walking for more than 2 hours, the 2 ended up at a small house built into the mountain side. "This is where my granny lived. She refused to live with everyone else after my Poppop died." Aiosha took a deep breath and grabbed her  chest. Xander caught her before she fell to her knees. Tears streamed down her face. She couldn't catch her breath. "I can hear  her song. It’s so full of sadness and loneliness." Xander pulled Aiosha into his arms and sat on the grass. Aiosha continued to speak in a low tone, "She was 1 of 100 sirens whose song was one that caused the listener to have suicidal thoughts. 99 % of those who heard their song would commit suicide." Aiosha tried to pull herself together. She knew why this song brought so much pain to her. "The night we met. I thought about singing this song while ending my life."  Xander raised Aiosha's face up, "Well, I, for one, am happy you didn't." He rubbed his finger over her eyebrow and down the curve of her cheek. Xander leaned in and kissed Aiosha on the lips. His actions startled her but his lips were so soft. She didn't want him to stop. She got onto her knees and wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him  deeply back. They held each other tight, breathing each other's air, never wanting to let go.
