After that day, Aiosha did not feel free from the burdens of carrying the Siren's songs but she felt like she was able to share the load mentally with Xander. He continued to be himself, like nothing changed. For her everything had changed, she wanted him to hold her again, kiss her again.
She could feel another song unlike any she had ever sung boiling to the surface. "A song meant only for his ears." Aiosha whispered to herself.
As they laid on the beach staring up at the stars, Aiosha couldn't take her eyes off of Xander. All she could think about was how it had been 4 whole days since he kissed her.
"Xander. You don't want to kiss me again?" Aiosha whispered.
"Well that was random. Why would I not want to kiss you?" Xander laughed nervously. He looked down at the sand like he had done many times to avoid staring at Aiosha.
"When you are washing dishes, I want to walk up to you and wrap my arms tightly around your waist. When you sweat, it's like every bead is asking me to take a closer look. My body has been doing weird things since I kissed you. To be honest, I'm scared that these feelings that are overwhelming to me, may be a burden to you."
Aiosha set up and stared at her hands, "Xander, I feel a song in my heart that's full of love. It's a song that can only be sung once. Will you listen to it?" Xander nodded in acceptance.
She took Xander's hand and started to sing:
"Hollow is the heart that fade
Dreams that die and serenade.....
wiiiithooooouuut
beats of tender, gently raised
Pains that grow and embrace....
wiiiithooooouuut
Your....looooovvveee....
with you I see my futures past
with you I see how we could last
hold me close and never let go
with my.....looooooooove...I de.....vooooooote. "
Xander sat staring at Aiosha holding his chest. "That was beautiful. " He crawled over to Aiosha and pulled her into his arms. She pushed him down onto the sand and rubbed her hand down his locs. She could feel his heart racing against her chest. "Is it really okay for me to love you?" Aiosha asked Xander.
"I should be asking you that." Xander replied. Aiosha smiled then kissed Xander. She pressed her body hard against his. He moved his hand up and down on her back then under her shirt. His touch sent electric waves through her body. She let out a sound she had never heard before.
They held each other throughout the night. They showed each other parts of themselves they did not know existed. They did everything that felt good to them.
Before they knew it the sun was coming up and so was the tide. They hadn't slept a wink. The ocean's waves covered and crashed against Aiosha's body as Xander continued to make love to her. He pushed his face into the water and pressed his lips against Aiosha's. They rolled around under the water, to the brink of the beach's drop off point. The cold water gave way to an unnatural heat wave between them. Xander entangled his fingers with Aiosha's as she wrapped her legs tightly around his body. Their drenched bodies washed back ashore, never skipping a beat.
They remained on the beach throughout the morning, talking about life and their future together.
"What if we had kids?" Aiosha said, realizing the consequences of their actions.
"What if? Why not?'' Xander looked at Aiosha's saddened face.
"I'm sorry. I think I messed up." Aiosha had remembered a story that her mom told her about what happens when Sirens have relationships with the men that they lure to the island. They lose their ability to have children, if they survive consummating the relationship.
Aiosha told Xander this piece of information.
"So why do the men not survive?"
"I believe Sirens can only conceive.....when they are submerged in the oceans waters. So the men would end up drowning....wait...How can you breath under water?"
"The moment water enters my lungs, I turn it into steam and exhale it."
Aiosha stared at Xander in awe then she continued to discuss her concerns, "If I don't get pregnant from this interaction we won't be able to have kids. Will your love change?"
"Never. As long as I have you, anything additional is just more to love."
"Well we will know within 24 hrs. A Siren is only pregnant for a short period of time. I am not sure how it would work since you are human. "
"I might have messed up too. I mean, my DNA has been genetically altered. What if our child can't control the effects?" Xander said then covered his face with his hands.
"What if our child dies because of me?"
"I think we should be patient and not freak out too much. Let's head back to the house." Aiosha leaned over and gently kissed Xander.
He stood and then helped Aiosha to her feet. They walked hand in hand back to the house.
Several days later, Aiosha started to notice the changes in her body. She was definitely pregnant. Xander was amazed by the quickness of the fertilization process. A human requires at least 4 to 6 weeks to determine if they are pregnant.
Xander spent the time showing Aiosha the powers that his genetic modification yielded. Everything from his ability to fly, set specific parts of his body on fire, and he could even boil water by using what he called dragon breath. He couldn't breathe fire but he could superheat the air leaving his body.
Aiosha understood why he was concerned. If their child had these abilities it could end up setting the whole island on fire. The concern written on Aiosha's face prompted Xander to walk over to her and comfort her. He held her close and kissed her cheek. She was his north star, his guiding light and she was all he needed to get to his final destination.
Xander started practicing martial arts from a book he found in Aiosha's library. He would need to protect her somehow, if anything was to happen.
He practiced day in and day out, while watching the astounding changes in Aiosha's body. In the evening they read books on how to deliver a baby. From the rate of changes in Aiosha's body she would be ready to deliver soon.
"Xander! I found this book about delivering Siren babies. We need to rethink things!" Aiosha was panicking. They only found books about human delivery up until now.
"From this book, you need to be in the ocean during the night hours and..." Xander paused what he read next scared him. "Delivery process can last for up to a week. It is also possible to give birth to up to 5 babies! This is crazy!" Xander exclaimed.
"I'm scared, Xander." Aiosha said then pressed her face against his chest. Xander rubbed his hand over Aiosha’s locs and let her know she wasn't alone.
They continued their daily routines waiting for a signal that the baby was ready. After 7 weeks, Aiosha started having daily contractions. She also told Xander on several occasions that the ocean was calling her. She spent a lot of time floating next to the dock where the water was the deepest near the house.
One evening while Xander practiced his martial arts on the beach, Aiosha felt something tug at her in the ocean. Before she could call out for Xander, her body was pulled into the water. She looked down into the darkness and she couldn't see anything nor was there anything attached to her. After 5 minutes, she felt like she was drowning. She could not breathe under the water. In fact, she did not even realize she was holding her breath.
She started to swim toward the surface but her stomach felt like it was full of bricks and she was sinking fast. She opened her mouth and tried to scream.Something was wrong. She couldn't shift into her Siren form and she could no longer breathe under water. [What's going on?!]
While Xander kicked and pushed himself to the max, he felt an overwhelming sensation to be next to Aiosha. When he turned to look at her beautiful floating body, he noticed she was gone. He ran down the deck and called out for her. He felt the same fear he felt the day the dolphins brought her body to shore. Without thinking, he jumped into the water. For a second he thought he saw Aiosha's hand reaching out to him.
He swam down into the darkness. He set only his head on fire then put it out, creating an air bubble. That's when he saw Aiosha. She looked lifeless and her body was floating to the bottom of the ocean. He quickly swam to her and grabbed her hand. She felt heavy like she was in her Siren form.
She wasn't breathing. He pressed his face to hers and his air bubble became their air bubble. He pushed air into Aiosha's lungs and continued to try and move them back to the surface. [Wake up Aiosha! I don't know what else to do!]
While holding Aiosha's lifeless body in the water, Xander could feel her stomach moving. He placed his palm to her stomach, it felt like the baby was panicking. [Please Aiosha! I can't lose you! I don't want to lose our baby!] Xander breathed into her mouth again and pressed against her chest. Tears rolled down his face. [Don't leave me alone. I can't live without you!]
