Wake up and get dressed, I already got scolded that we're late.
Lia glared at the constant rumbling and vibrating coming from her phone and squeezed one eye shut as she read the message on her phone. She had two missed calls from Jonny and add five texts from him.
It was barely nine in the morning and she didn't plan on waking up early this morning especially since last night they didn't get home until two in the morning.
She texted Jonny back asking him, Why? In response he informed her that they were running last minute errands for the couple. Last Lia had heard she was supposed to be doing it with Luke but apparently he was still in bed and Jonny had volunteered.
"Why are you so eager this early in the morning?" She groaned to him but graciously took the coffee cup he was holding out to her. "Least I can get." She told him and took a sip of the liquid cocaine. "Alright, where are we going?" She asked sitting back on the seat.
They went to five different places that Lia was mentally and physically tired out.
The first stop they had to go to the bakery to make sure that the cake was exactly as ordered, dropping off some decorations needed on the pastry as well. She also had to double check that the sweets that were ordered were still good to go and they had needed to pay the rest of the deposit to the bakery. Stepping in before Jonny, she thanked him before looking up a the person that was going to help her.
"Oh my god, Lia, is that you?" She heard a female voice call and she glanced to see a friend from when she went to highschool. She ran around the counter and they hugged each other. "It's been too long!" she said excitedly, peeking a glance behind her to Jonny.
"Are you guys together? I totally called it!" She said acknowledging Jonny. He smiled at her, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "What?" Lia asked her and Ann Marie pointed from Lia to Jonny and then back. "We totally called it that you and Jonny would end up together. Especially the way that you guys flirted with each other." She said. A guy from the back of the bakery came in and Lia recognized him as Tyrese, another classmate.
"Babe, look who is here." Ann Marie told him and he looked to the couple and smiled. "Oh hey, its nice to see you." He said. "We're married now." Anne Marie said putting a hand around his waist. He put his arm on her shoulder and kissed her temple. "Remember Ben's older brother, him and Lia are together finally." She told her husband and he looked between the two.
"Congrats, we all knew that it would happen." He told Lia who had her jaw open ready to tell them that they were way wrong. "Wait, what do you mean 'we'?" Lia asked.
"Everyone in our graduating class. Everyone knew that you were in love with Ben, but who would think that his older brother was in love with y-" Before she could say anything, Lia interrupted her. "Oh we're not together like you think. We're just running errands for Ben's wedding tomorrow." She said trying to explain to the couple, whom Ann Marie's smile melted.
"Oh, I just thought...well in that case, sorry. Maybe I should've just kept my big mouth shut." She said, "We just thought maybe you came to your senses." She said to Lia.
Lia looked at Ann Marie wide eyed. "Came to my- what?" She asked and Anne Marie dismissed that thought and tried to busy herself with other business. "I didn't know that we were making Ben's cake. Is the cake under someone else's name?" She asked and looked at the order.
She lifted a brow at Ann Marie but decided not to question her any further. She was exhausted from running around with Jonny for the last five hours. All she wanted was to lie down and hoped that she could still fit into her bridesmaid dress come the wedding day."Why would they think that we were together?" She asked out loud, not realizing she did until Jonny answered her.
"That's ridiculous, how can anyone mistake our fighting with flirting?" He said his voice laced with sarcasm. He glanced over to Lia who had her hand under her chin thinking hard. "Right? We fought all the time." She said.
Jonny only rolled his eyes knowing quite well. They had finished the last errand and were on their way to get dinner.
They stopped at a hole in the wall taqueria and she ordered herself some tacos. They ate in almost silence and it bothered her. "I'm surprised." She told him and he was halfway shoving a footlong burrito into his mouth. "What?" He asked her.
"I'm just surprised you're not pestering me about Ben like you always do." She said and took a bite of her taco. He had just taken a bite and she waited for him to respond after he had some of his burrito. "We seem to always get into an argument about it, so i'd rather not bring it up. Its a big deal to you and I probably won't understand, so with the little time that we have left. I'd like our company in front of each other be nice and civilized." He said.
Lia nodded in agreement. "So, Tiff is adamant that Felis is pregnant. Isn't that crazy, then that would mean they're having a shotgun wedding."
Jonny shook his head, "I don't think that my brother is that much of an i***t to get a girl pregnant. He's had his fair share of pregnancy scares, he wraps it up, so no worries there." The look on Lia's face made him wonder if he shouldn't have said that. "I mean-" He was ready to save himself but Lia stopped him.
"You don't have to worry, I know Ben is not a saint. I sure as heck wasn't either. Maybe you need to learn a thing or two from your brother." She replied back to him thinking about the first time that they had s*x and he didn't put a condom on. Or the times after that.
Jonny's face became serious as he said, "You are covered right?" He asked before he took another bite.
She nodded her head at him, "Yes, you think I'm going to trap you? Why would I do that?"
"I don't know, females are weird, and I've had my fair share of them." He said. Usually he did and he definitely took a chance when he decided to go bare with Lia, but he trusted her. And he knew where she lived.
Lia rolled her eyes at him. "If we can't even have a decent talk together without you annoying the crap out of me, how do you expect us to even be parents let alone dating?" The idea of her having a child with Jonny was so far out that something in her didn't feel right. She wondered was that nerves...or did the idea not be truly far fetched.
"Yet you enjoy having s*x with me." He told her with a smirk in those eyes of his and his gaze changed from cool and playful to one that burned with lust.
She shifted in her seat uncomfortably, just the use of him saying s*x, made her flash back to the times they've been intimate. She had a tingly sensation and wondered how was it possible that he could bring her so much pleasure when she couldn't have a conversation with him. Was this what friends with benefits entailed. Or was it more like best friend's brother with benefits, or enemies with benefits.
"You're not expecting more right?" Lia asked him hoping he understood what she was asking of him.
He literally inhaled his food and then he was stretching his back. "No." Was his reply. "What if, Ben decides not to marry his fiance, and decides that he loves you?" He asked her just to entertain the idea.
Lia played with her lip as she thought about it. "I honestly don't expect him to accept. He is marrying the person that he is in love with. He doesn't have feelings for me, hence the reason I never confessed to him." He noticed that she started to play with the meat that was on some of her other tacos.
"I guess that's true." He replied. He started to eat the rest of the chips and she eventually finished the rest of her dinner.
They sat silence on the ride to the hotel to drop off supplies to Felis' parents. He wrote out a check to Jonny for the expenses. Next, he was dropping her off at home and he pulled up in her parents driveway. "I'm surprised you're not staying the night since you always keep showing up at my parents." She told him her voice laced with humor.
He smiled at her with a look that she wondered if it got all the females that he knew to take off their panties. "Is that an invitation?"
Lia rolled her eyes at him and was getting ready to get out of the car, "In your dreams." Before she could open the door she felt Jonny's hand glide over her shoulders onto her right side before his hand was right on her jawline.
She turned her head to look at him about ready to ask him what he was doing when he was a lot closer than she expected and then she felt his lips on her own. She gasped and he took that moment to slide his tongue over her lip as if coaxing her to let him in.
His kiss felt like it was stealing her strength and her soul. She brought a hand up that rested on his neck and collarbone. As if that was invitation enough, he slid his tongue into her mouth and took full possession of her.
Lia felt a tingling sensation in the pit of her stomach that made its way down to her core. If he kept doing that, she might just really invite him to stay the night. She couldn't, this was wrong.
As if he was sensing that she was starting to regain her senses, he did something with his tongue that made her lose any train of thought. He was making her crazed.
A knock on the window made her turn her head furiously. Jonny growled in frustration as he moved back to his own seat and found the eyes of Mr. Grange and an amused Mrs. Kellar. "Busted." He whispered and knew as soon as he was going to go home, his mom would ask him all about it.
"Hi Mr. Grange." Jonny said when Lia stepped out of the vehicle and literally ran inside without so much as a word to him and he was fine with that. Mrs. Grange waved before she took a step inside with her all knowing smile.
