chapter 6

They were both breathing heavily and their bodies were sheer with a thin layer of sweat. It wasn't another minute later before her phone started to ring and the ringer was on so load, she could have woken up the whole neighborhood. "Oh fu-" She fixed herself really quick and the back porch light turned on. Jonny hid behind the corner as he started to make sure he was good to go. The door slid open and she heard her dad's voice call out, "Honey, are you out here? Your mom went to go pick up Tiff. I think she's wasted." He said and found Lia red and basically decent enough as long as she didn't go into the bright light. That and she felt her underwear moist with her and Jonny's frisk.  "Yes dad, I'm out here." She smiled to him and was starting to quickly push past him when she heard him call out, "Oh Jonny, you're here too? What are you guy's doing out here in the dark?" He asked oblivious to what had just happened. "Hi Mr. Grange. Your daughter apparently forgot her keys and she didn't want to bother you guys so we waited." He told her gullible father the slick lie. He paused and looked at them both and then laughed. "Do you wanna come inside? Can I get you anything my boy?" He asked and Lia zoomed past her father into the house towards her room. Jonny was about to decline, but he wasn't tired at this point. He accepted Lia's father's invitation and found himself sitting with her dad at the dining table with a mug of warm coffee. His phone vibrated and he sneaked a look at it. It was a text from Lia and he opened the message up. Why are you still here? Go home. Oh and FYI...I swear if you give me any ANY STDs, I will kill you. He took a sip of his coffee and smiled into the mug. He enjoyed the company of Lia's father, because he always had something to talk about and about ten minutes later he found himself eating leftovers. His phone vibrated again and it was Lia again. BTW, thanks for getting my good nice panties ruined! And stop indulging my dad and go home! Jonny was ready to text her back before Mrs. Grange and Tiff entered through the garage door. "You know for a drunk, you look like you're okay." He told Tiff who didn't seem to look inebriated at all. She was eyeing his food and she was already planning to have a plate get set up for her. Mrs. Grange even got a cold glass of water for her. "Yeah, well I'm an alcoholic, so this is not me white girl wasted." She started to eat what was placed in front of her. She thanked Mrs. Grange and the four of them sat and talked late into the night. The next morning when Lia awoke to grab a cup of coffee, she was horrified to find Jonny awake in a pair of her dad's sweatpants and a borrowed t-shirt standing at the coffee maker. "What are you doing?" She asked him. He turned to her and she saw a day's worth of facial hair on his face. "Making coffee, back off woman. I was first." Lia shook her head at him, "I can see that Sherlock. But what are you doing here." She pushed past him and grabbed a mug for herself. "Spent the night, your parents and Tiff sure like to keep people company and for some reason we started to play Monopoly and it got really late." He explained to her. "How are you feeling?" He eyed her. She had her back to him and she froze. She was hoping that he didn't bring up what happened last night and she couldn't blame it on being drunk because she was a lot sober. "Alright. Thanks for asking." Lia turned to him and found him watching her with his dark eyes. They just stared at each other for a little bit and she wasn't sure how she wanted to tell him. Usually when she was done with a guy she never stayed the night. And she usually never saw them again. Except her judgement this time failed her and she had s*x with not only someone she knew, but her best friend's brother, and unprotected on top of that. "I get it...you don't want to talk about it." He told her and poured the coffee into his mug. Lia blew out a breath of fresh air and she was glad that they both wanted to avoid the topic. "It was nice." Was all she muttered before her mom was ready and next in line for coffee. "Hey kids." She greeted the two and was already grabbing a bagel out from the fridge. "Mom, you do realize we're both adults right." Lia explained to her mother and she only grabbed her on her cheeks to bunch up her face. "But you guys will always be kids in my eyes. Bagel?" She offered. Today was where they were having an engagement party at the hotels pool area. It was definitely late and she even wondered why they would bother with it but according to Jonny, it was supposed to be a sort of meet-and-greet with the parents. Except when it came down to it, the bride's mom was caught at work and it seemed like she would be flying in later in the week. At this point Lia and Tiff bet she would make up some lame excuse and just show up on the actual wedding day. There was almost the whole neighborhood who showed up and a lot of unrecognizable faces. Maybe they were out of town-ers from the bride's side. Lia found Ben and she was talking to him and they were laughing when Felicity showed up out of nowhere and dragged him away. From the brief second that she had spoken to Ben, he seemed like the same old guy she knew. The way that he gazed at his future wife made Lia wonder how did he fall so deep for her. Tiff of course was stealing champagne off of the trays that were being offered via the hosts. She had one in her hand but if definitely didn't taste good. The party was nice and simple with rose gold decor. There was still the theme of that mint color and a pastel pink. Really it was extravagant for an engagement party and she wondered what the actual venue would be like. Last she checked it was located on the beach. At this time, they definitely chose a good time to marry when it wasn't too cold but it wasn't hot either. It was a nice pre-summer weather that came with a light breeze. Lia wasn't much of a dreamer but she did have hopes if not dreams of her and Ben being together, maybe not married but definitely together. There was a sadness in her that Ben wasn't going to be available after this, but she also needed to get how she felt about him off of her chest. She just hadn't had the time to tell him. Her phone buzzed and she read a text from Jonny of all people. You're on birth control right? Or did you take emergency contraceptive? She looked around to see if maybe he was watching her but he was not longer in sight. She thought she did just see him not too long ago. She replied back to him, I wouldn't have had unprotected s*x with you if I wasn't...not trying to have any surprises. He didn't reply back soon enough so she shoved her phone back into her purse. She thought back to what had transpired last night and she had to admit that what they did wasn't bad. It actually felt really good and he was good at what he did. Except she wouldn't admit to it to him. His head might even get bigger. When Tiff noticed that she was acting strange earlier she asked if something weird happened between the two of them and she ended up spilling all the beans on what happened. Tiff laughed and said, "Well...saw it coming from a mile away." When Lia asked her what she had meant, Tiff could only say that there was an off sensual tension between the two and their bickering was almost flirtatious in nature. She only rolled her eyes at her friend and told her she had a desperate itch to scratch. "We have something to give you guys." Lia heard her dad say and she went and stood next to her mom. She whispered to her mother as to what was happening and she turned to Lia to say," Your dad went crazy again and made something for the couple. I told him they may already have one, but your stubborn father went ahead." Lia didn't recall seeing her dad work on anything. When they had the attention of everyone, she finally noticed that there was a big structure that was covered with cloth. It was odd that she never noticed it before. Jonny was there with her father and they both pulled the cloth off and what they revealed was the most intricate and DIY wood arch that she had laid her eyes on. It looked like something that was built and sold on one of those vintage, rustic DIY sites. It was beautiful and the color was very elegant. It was a dark espresso and it definitely could be made into a bench later. Lia could almost say that she was jealous that her father had obviously put time and effort into building it. "Oh wow Mr. Grange. Its very nice. Thank you so much." Ben hugged her father, Felicity had a look on her face that Lia couldn't exactly read. "Of course, Jonny helped." He pointed to the other Kellar brother and Jonny very humbly nodded his head. The crowd loved the gift and the bride's father seemed to have an eye for it as well. "But we already have one sweetie." Felicity told Ben and anyone could see that she wasn't all too happy. "It doesn't go with our theme." She told him. The look in Ben's face and her father's said it all. "Well, it could be broken down and made into something else. Mr. Grange put a lot of time and effort into sanding, painting it down and embedding designs." Jonny offered. "Yes we could do that." Ben offered knowing all too well that he just had to make a hard decision when her father hesitantly agreed. "Thank you, I really do appreciate it." Ben thanked her father and she couldn't read his expression when he glanced over to his fiancee. Lia was sitting in the hotel lobby when she found Jonny exiting from the restroom. She glanced away hoping it didn't make it look like she was waiting for him but he saw her and walked over. "Thank you for helping my dad, he really enjoys making things." Lia thanked him and Jonny sat down next to her. "Why are you hiding in here? And no worries, I like your dad like another father. It just pisses me off though." He clenched his teeth and Lia felt that she understood who he was referring to. "Well we don't choose who we fall in love with, and you only get married once, everything has to be perfect." She tried to explain but she wasn't convinced herself. She had to admit that she was biased as it was her own father. She did come to the conclusion that she could get into big trouble if she hit the bride. Plus it wasn't her wedding so she couldn't be mad that they couldn't use the arch. They would have to figure out a use for it somehow.
