The Perfect Family

Chloe: I was in the storage room putting away a case file that they had just recently solved. I looked around for a few seconds before trying to squeeze it into the middle of the shelf. I had just gotten it to fit before the box at the end came crashing down to the floor, spilling everything out. “Damn it “ I said as I bent down to pick everything up. There were several evidence bags that should have been in the evidence locker. I looked at the box to see if there was any damage to it. In big, black letters it read. Cold Case “Why was the cold case mixed up with all of these solved cases?” I asked myself out loud. I fixed the files and placed them in the box, followed by all of the evidence. I placed the lid back on. I started to get a strange feeling, and instead, I started to feel dizzy. Then it came. I saw a man and a woman sitting in a big office surrounded by the files. All of a sudden, I was back. I shook my head and got up, using the shelf as leverage. I picked up the box and left. It had long pasted time for me to go home. I thought about home even though I had no one to go home to, except for my cat Tiger. When I thought of home, I thought of Andrew, Christian,and Christiana. When I thought of home, it bothered me a little. I wanted someone to go home, too, but I smiled anyway because I knew what it meant for me . I shook my head to clear my thoughts. I went to my desk and stared at the box. I closed my eyes but I wasn’t sleeping. I was focused on my vision. It had been a really long time since I had a vision. I somewhat knew how to control my vision. I knew when one was coming , I started to do this when it became too much to handle. I opened my eyes so that I could at least skim the files before I headed home for the night. I opened the file and read through the basics of the case. As I finished with the first file, I realized that the 12th anniversary was coming up for the case. That made me even more eager to have this case.. I yawned as I opened the box, put everything in my desk drawer, and locked the drawer.I slid the box next to my computer. Then, I gathered my things and left for the night. When I got home, I tossed my keys on the table and turned the lights on. On my way to the freezer, I tripped over Tiger. Usually, Tiger comes to work with me, but today, I was just doing some paperwork. So I left him home and had a neighbor check in on him. I looked over at his empty bowl. “Let’s get you fed” I said as I scratched him behind the ears. He meowed as he followed me over to the cabinet. I pulled out his food and fixed his dinner. When I finished, I started to make my own dinner. I was distracted by this case. Even more than other cases I had. I was so distracted I didn’t even hear the microwave beeping. When I did hear it, I pulled it out of the microwave and grabbed a fork. “I found our first case.” I said to myself as I started to eat. Sapphire: I was alone in my room again. The doctor had just left, and I felt dirty again. I hated what my life had become, and there was nothing I could do about it. My life was in the hands of someone else. I had no control over anything. I felt like I couldn't escape it. I was lost. I got off the bed, got dressed, and started to pace back and forth in my room.I paced for what seemed like forever before the woman came in and yelled at me to sit down. I didn't know her name. They never used names. I only knew that as Uncle,Doctor,Lizzy, and the woman.They never used the woman's name they just pointed and pulled her when they wanted her to do something. She hated me a lot. Even if I was in the room with her, she's would just glare at me and find things for me to do outside of whatever room we were in. Uncle: I watched the doctor leave her room and I felt sick. I felt like I was partly to blame for everything that happened to her. I should have said no to joining them. I should have stayed with my family. Lizzy had already made herself a part of my family. We fell in love. I left my family so that I could be with her. She still didn't fully belong to me, and that hurt me more than I let her know. She has started to act a lot differently these last few weeks. When I asked her about it, she said that it was nothing and that I was paranoid.I had let it go, but I wanted to know what changed for her. Was she deciding that I wasn't worth it? Was she tired of the life that we lived? Just tired of all the lies? I didn't know what it was, but I wanted to find out.
