New beginnings

As she traveled to the city, she looked forward to the new life and experience she would encounter. One thing for sure; she wouldn’t stop pushing, or being herself. This is her life, she needs to live it right. Even as the car came to a halt in front of her institution, listra has already envisioned life in the institution. She was bent on only focusing on her studies. As she climbed down with her bags , she felt lost at first. She wouldn’t let the new environment or the cold air intimidate her. She walked past some group of people who kept staring at her with that look of new breed. She held her head high as she entered the corridor to her newly assigned hostel . Hello am listra, she stretched her hands to the slim curvy lady she saw there. The lady who had an earpiece over her ear ignored her greetings and continued humming to the music that was playing on her mp3. Listra felt bad because she was already used to attention and love. She shrugged and went to the other lady who happened to be her corner mate. The hostel was built in such a way that four persons are assigned to same room with their bunk and corner outrightly spelt out while facing each other, indicating an unpronounced warning of stay in your lane .

As she got to her own space, she carefully unpacked and said a little prayer. Firstly i need a little tour of this campus area and also try to reach my course mates and update notes if necessary, she said to her self. She looked around her dormitory, since the two ladies present are feigning ignorance, she only hoped the third one whose bed is empty will be a bit friendly. She changed into a more free attire and left the room.

As she strode out of the hostel , she walked towards her department while asking questions from those she came in contact with. On getting to her department, she found out that lectures have started about a month ago. Listra became sad. How do I meet up with the notes and lessons ? She worriedly pondered. Luckily she got to the school very early, at least before today runs out I must achieve something. She walked past few blocks and saw a group of people having lectures , she joined them. After the lecture ended, she discovered it was not her level, she burst out in tears as the stress of a single day was beginning to weigh on her coupled with the fact that she has not tasted anything solid since she came to school. She has been so anxious and occupied with meeting up with school’s activities that she forgot she needed to have some meal.As she sat crying, a young lady named Frida saw her. As fate may have it, it happened that frida is in same department with her. Frida asked her not to give up that she can still meet up. Frida lent her some notes from previous lectures and they exchanged contacts.

She thanked her and left for dormitory. The next day, listra woke up very early and tidied up. She contacted Frida who gave her directions as to where they are, she also met some of her colleagues at the department and was able to have a seamless lecture together. At the end of lecture, listra met with her course representative whom she registered some of the courses with and paid for textbooks. She was able to blend with few of her mates and had mastered almost all the faces in her department as well as covering up the lessons she had missed at the beginning . At the hostel her roommates were beginning to come around knowing she is a quiet and loveable person. She discovered that her corner mate was just a year above her while the other two were in their final year; no wonder the pride.

It was the beginning of another semester, listra has been having good grades so far. One thing she tried avoiding was distractions from the opposite s*x. To her , everything has time. I need to focus on my studies first before I can actually let a guy into my heart. Having heard so many unpleasant stories. One thing that has kept her so dedicated is the fact she knows the background she is coming from and must not let herself down. She has been using the money she gets by helping other students with their assignments to cater for her needs. Also during the holidays listra will do some farming for other households and save her pay for school fees and textbooks.

During her project work in her finals , listra with her friends dedicated all of her time to the project. As a result she emerged with an A in a five credit unit course. This actually boosted her cgpa and she came out with a second class upper degree. .
