Chapter 4: Babyshower time part 2

897 Words
Domonique P.O.V As I walked into the backyard, my eyes widened in surprise and amazement. I couldn't believe all the busy activity going on around me. Omegas were running around with vases of flowers, trying to find the perfect spot for each one. Presents were being stacked and restacked in different places, as if each one was a precious treasure that needed to be handled with care. Tables were being set with my mother at the helm, bossing people around and trying to get everyone to see the image she had in mind. Honestly, it was a little overwhelming. I couldn't help but wonder how my grandmother had coped with my mother's baby shower when she was pregnant with me. Maybe my mother had PTSD from that experience or something like that. Maybe that was the reason she was acting the way she did, trying to control every little detail and make everything perfect. "Ahh! Dominique! There you are!" My mother's voice rang out across the backyard, causing me to jump in surprise. "Come on, we are already behind on schedule and we need to get everything done and ready in the next four hours. Otherwise, this would be a failure of a baby shower, and my grandchildren will definitely not have a failure of a celebration for them being born!" I couldn't help but roll my eyes at her dramatics, knowing exactly what kind of torture was in store for me. I walked over to her as she handed me a clipboard, her eyes scanning the area for any imperfections. "We need more flowers over there," she said, pointing to a corner of the yard. "And those presents need to be arranged by size, not by color. And where is the cake? We need to make sure it's perfect." I sighed as I looked down at the entire list, feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of tasks that needed to be done. I glanced over at the mother-to-be, noticing that she was still in her casual clothes. "Hmmm...looks like the mother-to-be still needs her party clothes!" I muttered to myself, realizing that this was the perfect opportunity to escape the madness, even if it was just for an hour. I did an internal happy dance before skipping over to where my mother stood, busy making a young omega cry with Mrs. Delouise. I could see the panic in their eyes as they tried to figure out what to do next. "Hey, mom!" I said, my voice ringing out across the backyard. I could see the panic in the omega's eyes as she tried to slip away unnoticed. Without missing a beat, I jumped in, distracting my mother and giving the poor omega a chance to get away. My mother turned to face me, her eyes scanning me from head to toe. I could tell that she was most probably wondering how on earth I wasn't standing in front of her with a million bunches of flowers in my hand or something like that. "What is it, sweetie?" My mother's voice was laced with annoyance as she looked at me expectantly. "Why are you just standing there like that?!" I could feel the weight of her gaze on me, making me feel small and insignificant. "There are a million things to do!" she continued, her voice rising in frustration. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I knew that my mother meant well, but sometimes her intensity could be overwhelming. "I know...I know!" I said, my voice rising in frustration. "And that is why I took a look at the list on your board and saw that Jennifer still needs her outfit and accessories. So I was thinking I can quickly run into town and go get it?" I asked my mother, hoping that she would at least allow me to do that. My mother just stared at me, her eyes scanning me from head to toe. I could see the wheels turning in her head as she tried to decide what to do next. Without missing a beat, my mother marched past me and scolded a group of omegas who were moving around chairs. "That is not the way we need to place it!" she said, her voice rising in frustration. I could see the panic in their eyes. My mother didn't give them a chance to respond before she started showing them how to do it all over again. I just shook my head, amazed at her ability to take charge and get things done. She could have been a f*****g sergeant in the army with her demanding and scolding skills. Amidst all the chaos, I shouted over the noise, "So is that a yes?!" My mother's head snapped to me again. "Yes, hun!" she said, her voice rising above the commotion. "Drive safe and hurry back!" With a sense of relief, I quickly placed the clipboard back down and practically bolted toward the garage. My heart was racing with excitement as I realized that I had been granted permission to leave the pack lands. This was my chance to escape the madness. I quickly got the keys to the mini truck and raced out of the garage before my mother could even realize what she had done. I drove through the forest, singing my favorite song on the radio Peace at last!
