CHAPTER 1
Isabelle stood at attention, her hand resting on the hilt of her sword. The sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the city of Arandelle. As a member of the Royal Guard, she was tasked with protecting the kingdom from any threats that may arise. She took her duty seriously, knowing that the safety of the people depended on her.
She watched as the people of Arandelle went about their business, bustling through the city's streets. There was a sense of peace and tranquility in the air, but Isabelle knew that it could be shattered at any moment.
As she turned to leave, she noticed a commotion at the city's gate. A man on horseback was galloping towards her, a red banner fluttering in the wind. Isabelle drew her sword, ready to defend the city from the intruder.
The man approached at a breakneck speed, and Isabelle could see the anger etched on his face. He was clad in armor, and the emblem on his chest showed that he was a knight of the realm. Isabelle relaxed a bit, recognizing him as Xavier, a rogue knight known for his trouble-making ways.
Xavier reined in his horse, stopping just short of Isabelle. "What's the meaning of this?" she demanded, pointing her sword at him.
Xavier sneered at her, his arrogance on full display. "I have business with the king. Move aside, little girl."
Isabelle bristled at the insult, but she kept her sword steady. "The king is not seeing anyone at the moment. You'll have to come back at a later time."
Xavier scowled, clearly not used to being denied anything. "I don't have time for this. Stand aside or suffer the consequences."
Isabelle stood her ground, unwavering in her duty. "I cannot let you pass. If you are here on legitimate business, you can wait until the king is ready to see you. If not, then you have no business in the city."
Xavier glared at her, his hand twitching towards his own sword. Isabelle tensed, ready for a fight. But before he could make a move, a voice interrupted them.
"What is the meaning of this disturbance?"
Isabelle turned to see the king approaching them, flanked by his own guards. She stepped back, bowing respectfully as he approached.
Xavier sneered at the king, clearly unhappy with the delay. "I have come with urgent news, Your Highness. It cannot wait."
The king gestured for Xavier to follow him, and the two disappeared into the castle. Isabelle breathed a sigh of relief, relaxing her grip on her sword. She couldn't shake the feeling that Xavier was up to no good, but she couldn't act on her suspicions without proof.
As she made her way back to her post, Isabelle couldn't help but wonder what kind of trouble Xavier was stirring up. She had a feeling that her duties as a member of the Royal Guard were about to get a lot more complicated.
Isabelle couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss. As she resumed her position guarding the city, she kept an eye out for any signs of trouble. She knew that Xavier was a troublemaker, and his sudden appearance was enough to put her on edge.
As the night fell, the city's streets emptied, and Isabelle found herself alone in her watch. She heard footsteps approaching and tensed, ready to draw her sword.
"Relax, Isabelle. It's just me."
She turned to see her fellow guard, Simon, approaching her. She lowered her sword, but her guard was still up.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice tinged with suspicion.
Simon shrugged. "Just thought I'd keep you company. It's a long night, and you looked like you could use some company."
Isabelle relaxed a bit, grateful for the company. Simon was one of the few people she trusted, and she knew he had her back.
As the night wore on, the two guards exchanged stories and joked around, trying to pass the time. But Isabelle couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. She kept an eye on the city, scanning for any signs of danger.
Suddenly, she heard a commotion coming from the direction of the castle. She and Simon exchanged a look before rushing towards the source of the disturbance.
As they approached, they saw Xavier being escorted out of the castle by the king's guards. He was struggling and shouting, clearly not happy with his treatment.
Isabelle and Simon moved to intercept him, their swords drawn. Xavier sneered at them, but didn't make a move.
"What's going on here?" Isabelle demanded.
Xavier spat on the ground. "I've been accused of treason, if you must know. The king thinks I'm working against him."
Isabelle didn't believe him for a second, but she couldn't act on her suspicions without proof. She and Simon escorted Xavier out of the city, making sure he didn't cause any trouble on the way.
As they reached the city's gate, Xavier turned to Isabelle. "You may have won this round, Isabelle, but mark my words. I'll be back, and when I am, you'll regret crossing me."
Isabelle watched as he rode off into the night, her guard still up. She knew that Xavier was trouble, and she couldn't shake off the feeling that he was up to something. She made a mental note to keep an eye on him, knowing that their paths would cross again.
Isabelle raised an eyebrow, surprised by the man's boldness. She wondered what he wanted and why he had come to the city unannounced. As the man approached her, she could see that he was a knight, clad in armor and wielding a sword at his side.
"Who goes there?" Isabelle called out, her voice steady and firm.
The knight reined in his horse and stopped a few feet away from her. He removed his helmet, revealing a mop of dark hair and a chiseled jawline.
"I am Xavier," he said, his voice smooth and confident. "I seek an audience with the king."
Isabelle narrowed her eyes, sizing up the knight. She had heard of him before - a rogue knight who had been causing trouble for the kingdom. She didn't trust him, but she knew that she couldn't deny him an audience with the king.
"I will escort you to the castle," she said, sheathing her sword. "But you will leave your weapons here."
Xavier hesitated for a moment, but then nodded and dismounted from his horse. He handed his weapons over to Isabelle, who secured them in a nearby chest. She then led Xavier through the city streets, keeping a close eye on him.
As they reached the castle gates, Isabelle turned to Xavier.
"You will stay here while I inform the king of your arrival," she said sternly.
Xavier merely nodded, his expression unreadable. Isabelle walked briskly into the castle, making her way to the throne room. She found the king seated on his throne, flanked by his advisors.
"Your Majesty," she said, bowing low. "A knight by the name of Xavier has arrived, seeking an audience with you."
The king raised an eyebrow, surprised by the unexpected visitor. He nodded his head, motioning for Isabelle to bring Xavier in.
Isabelle walked back to the castle gates, where Xavier was waiting patiently. She motioned for him to follow her, and they entered the throne room together.
Xavier bowed low before the king, his eyes fixed on the ground. The king studied him for a moment before speaking.
"What brings you to Arandelle, Knight Xavier?" he asked, his voice stern.
Xavier looked up, meeting the king's gaze.
"I have come to offer my services to the kingdom," he said. "I am a skilled fighter, and I am willing to aid in any way I can."
Isabelle watched Xavier carefully, not fully convinced of his intentions. But the king seemed to be considering his offer.
"We could use a skilled fighter," the king said thoughtfully. "Very well, Knight Xavier. You may stay in Arandelle and serve the kingdom. But know that any missteps will not be tolerated."
Xavier bowed low once again, his eyes gleaming with a hidden emotion. Isabelle couldn't quite place it, but she felt uneasy about the knight's presence in the kingdom.
As they made their way to the palace, Isabelle kept a watchful eye on Xavier, ready to strike at any moment. He seemed to sense her tension and smirked at her.
"What's the matter, Isabelle? Afraid I'll steal your thunder?" he taunted.
Isabelle gritted her teeth, but remained silent. She didn't want to give him the satisfaction of getting a rise out of her.
When they arrived at the palace, the king was waiting for them. He greeted Xavier warmly, much to Isabelle's surprise.
"Xavier, it's good to see you. What brings you here?" the king asked.
Xavier bowed low. "Your majesty, I am here to offer my services. I have information about a powerful sorcerer who plans to attack the kingdom."
Isabelle's eyes widened in surprise. She had heard rumors of a sorcerer, but she had no idea that he was planning an attack. The king listened intently as Xavier told him what he knew.
"We must act quickly," the king said. "Isabelle, I want you to work with Xavier on this. I trust that the two of you can put aside your differences for the good of the kingdom."
Isabelle nodded, her jaw clenched. She didn't like the idea of working with Xavier, but she knew that she had no choice. The fate of the kingdom depended on their success.
As she and Xavier left the palace, Isabelle couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to his story than he was letting on. She vowed to keep a close eye on him and make sure that he didn't do anything to jeopardize their mission.
The sun had set by the time they left the palace, and Isabelle knew that they needed to act quickly if they were going to stop the sorcerer. She turned to Xavier, determination in her eyes.
"We need to gather a team and make a plan," she said. "Let's get to work."
Xavier nodded, a hint of respect in his eyes. Isabelle couldn't help but feel a twinge of satisfaction at the thought that perhaps, just perhaps, they could work together to save the kingdom. She led the way as they made their way through the dark streets of Arandelle, heading towards the barracks to gather the rest of their team.
