The Survivors

Ria walked the derelict street alone. She liked to go alone she didn’t want to be responsible for others out of the compound flesh-eaters that’s what she called them the dead people walking could be anywhere at anytime sometimes alone sometimes in groups . She also liked being out by herself she never was a people person so she valued space away from the others to do her thing . She was the hero, the protector , the provider well that’s how the others saw her but that wasn’t how she saw herself. The drug store to the right at the end of the street snapped her out of her thoughts “ hmmmm this one looked untouched “ she thought to herself. She cautiously entered the drug store she pulled her knife just incase and sure enough it hasn’t been looted loads of medicines still sat in draws at the back of the shop. This was a luxury somewhere so close to home not looted . She put her knife back and she slowly started filling her ruck sack with medicines when she heard voices instinctively she swung her cross bow up in front of her . She heard the bell go on the shop door she raised her cross bow this time ,she needed to look so she edged around the corner of the shelf as she turned the corner she met a cross bow level with hers “ drop it “ said the husky voice in front of her . Strangely she didn’t react she just eyed the stranger up and down he was dressed very much like her scruffy jeans , a sleeveless shirt and a leather waist coat , she could tell he had a very muscular physique under the shirt and he had these piercing brown eyes , he was unshaven and his hair hung whispery around his face. She met so many people in this new world some good but a lot bad . But Ria was taken back by this guy she thought how much like a male version of herself he was . Again he repeated “ I said drop it “ . Ria snapped back to the now “ I don’t think so “ she said “ you drop it “ . “ I won’t say again “ the stranger said . Ria laughed “ I won’t tell you again “ she said . He was now eyeing her up as she had him he started with her leather trousers and worked his way up to her sleeveless shirt with the top of her breasts exposed and her leather waistcoat sitting on top her shirt . She had two knives one strapped to each leg . Suddenly there was another dong as the bell on the drug store door went again Ria quickly diverted her attention to view the next stranger coming round the corner “ oh my god how many are there and could she take them all ?“ she thought but then she couldn’t believe her eyes after a year of this apocalypse world she thought any chance of ever seeing anyone she knew especially him were gone forever she stood in shock slowly lowering her bow “ Officer Bill “ she said . He stood froze in the isle “Ria “ he said . She lowered her bow and run towards him and embraced him in a hug . She pulled back to look at him no longer wearing a sheriffs uniform he stood in front of her in dirty jeans and a sand shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbows . He also now had a beard that was new she thought . Though he has initially arrested her for assault on one of her mums crappy men friend he had seen the bigger picture and had always had her back but after looking for him she had gave up hope of seeing him again she assumed he died like many others when the end of the world as many knew it started . “ Oh my god I thought you was dead he said “ Ria stepped back from him a smile spread across her face “ you know me I’m a survivor “ They both laughed and embraced again . Ria never showed affection to anyone she considered it a sign of weakness but she had what some might say love for this man. He was like the only father presence she had ever known . Ria broke the embrace again and suddenly become conscious of the fact she had forgotten about the other guy . When she spun round he still held the bow up “ you can drop that now red neck “ she said he glared at her then looked at Bill who nodded then he slowly dropped the bow . Eric this is Ria ,Ria meet Eric he nodded at her she nodded back . There was something about him his eyes the way they looked at her it made her stomach flutter . WTF she thought quickly she shook it off and focused back on Bill . “ So what happened “ I looked for you how did you survive ?” Ria asked . “ I was in my car when the first lot of flesh eaters entered our town I managed to get out a man and his son helped me ,once I understood what was happening I headed out to find my family and I headed for the barracks in the hope the army could help but when I got there it was abandoned I set up a base and went looking for Laurel and Mike and helped as many people as I could “ Bill explained . “After I found them I went back to the barracks we are still there now in fact there are a small select group we survive together.” “ It’s not great but it’s safe “ “ I’m glad you saved your family “ Ria said . “ They have gone now “ Bill answered sadly . “ I am so sorry “ Ria replied . Ria suddenly become distracted conscious of the guy still behind her she glanced round at Eric and felt un easy as she realised his eyes were still fixed on her there was something very intense but also weirdly fascinating about him and if Bill obviously trusted him so she would . “ Ria “ the sound of Bills voice snapped her back round again “ how did you survive ?” Bill asked curiously . Ria smiled she knew she could still trust him she just knew “ wanna see? “ she asked in a cocky tone .
