CHAPTER 7

Isabella’s P.O.V I stood in front of the towering building that housed Blacks Enterprise, my heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Today was my first day on the job as a personal assistant, and I was determined to make a positive impression. Still marveling at the tall building, I pushed open the revolving door and stepped into the company. The interior was even more impressive than the exterior, with its sleek design and bustling atmosphere. However, my excitement was dampened when I encountered the receptionist. "Good morning," I greeted her with a smile. "Isn't this place beautiful?" The receptionist, Lillian, looked at me with a scowl, clearly not sharing my enthusiasm. My smile faltered, but I quickly composed myself and introduced myself in a professional manner. "I'm Isabella Grey, Mr. Black's new assistant." Lillian pointed towards the direction I needed to go with a dismissive tone. "That way, 30th floor. Oh, and make sure you don't use the elevator with the golden door. It's not meant for people like you, anyway," she muttered under her breath. I simply nodded, not wanting to engage in her negativity. I thanked her politely and made my way to the elevator. As I pressed the button for the 30th floor, Lillian's words echoed in my mind, but I quickly brushed them off. Her attitude was her problem, not mine. I wouldn't let it spoil my day. Stepping into the elevator, I took a deep breath and mentally prepare myself for my first day as Mr. Black's assistant. I had worked hard to get this position and I was determined to make the most of it. No receptionist's snarky remarks would deter me. As the elevator ascended, I looked at my reflection in the mirror. I straightened my posture and adjusted my outfit, ensuring that I presented myself in a confident and professional manner. I reminded myself of my skills and qualifications, knowing that I had earned this opportunity. Stepping out of the elevator, I felt a slight jolt as I accidentally collided with someone. Embarrassed, I quickly apologized, "I'm so sorry!" The person I bumped into turned towards me, and to my surprise, she had a warm and friendly smile on her face. "No worries at all, dear. These things happen," she replied sweetly. "Are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around before." Feeling relieved that she didn't seem upset, I nodded and introduced myself. "Yes, I'm Isabella, Mr. Black's new assistant." The woman's eyes widened in recognition. "Oh, You're really early," she replied warmly. "I'm Clara, the former assistant." "Oh, it's wonderful to meet you, Clara," I expressed with a genuine smile. "I'm really excited to be working with Mr. Black." Clara's eyes softened as she returned my smile. "Mr. Black is a fantastic boss. You'll enjoy working with him, and I'm here to help you settle in smoothly. If you have any questions or need any assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to me." I felt a sense of relief wash over me as Clara's kind demeanor put me at ease. It was reassuring to know that I had someone supportive to guide me through the beginning stages of my new role. As we walked to my office together, Clara shared some helpful insights about the company culture, the office dynamics, and Mr. Black's preferences. She emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration within the company and encouraged me to contribute my ideas and insights. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * After settling down in my office,I made my way downstairs to grab a cup of coffee for Mr. Black, I couldn't help but feel a hint of nervousness. It was my first day at the job, and I was still getting acquainted with the new environment and the faces around me. However, to my surprise, as I ventured into the bustling workplace cafe, I was greeted by a crowd of people who welcomed me with genuine cheerfulness. "Good morning!" exclaimed a woman with a bright smile. "Are you new here? Welcome!" "Thank you! Yes, it's my first day," I replied, returning the smile. "I'm Isabella." "Nice to meet you, Isabella. I'm Grace," she said, extending her hand for a handshake. "We're a friendly bunch here. Don't hesitate to ask if you need any help or have any questions. The coffee's great, too!" Feeling more at ease, I continued towards the coffee machine, encountering more friendly faces along the way. John, a fellow employee, gave me a warm greeting and shared a quick joke to lighten the atmosphere. Sarah, another new hire, struck up a conversation and we discovered common interests. As I poured coffee for Mr. Black, I couldn't help but marvel at the kindness and inclusiveness of my new colleagues. Despite being strangers to me just moments ago, they made me feel like a part of the team right from the start. Carrying the cup of coffee back upstairs, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness as I approached Mr. Black's office. It was finally time to meet my boss, the person I would be assisting and working closely with. Taking a deep breath, I gathered my composure and knocked gently on the door. "Come in," a calm voice called from inside. The moment I stepped into the office, I was completely taken aback by its stunning interior. Every detail was captivating, from the bookshelf on one side to the paintings and structures adorning the walls, the beautifully polished wooden floor, and the plush couch that looked as though it was made for royalty. What's more, the entire office was made of glass, offering a spectacular view that was sure to be breathtaking. My eyes wandered around the room, taking in every inch until they landed on Mr. Black, who was sitting across from me. It was hard not to notice his veiny and large hands, his tough-looking face, the curve of his nose, and those soft, kissable lips. And those grey eyes...I could easily get lost in them. For a moment, I wondered if he was a model or something; he was definitely a Greek God come to life. Just as I was lost in my thoughts, Mr. Black interrupted me. "Are you done?"He asked, his face as hard as stone. I felt my cheeks turn pink as I lowered my head, clearly embarrassed that I had been caught checking him out. I quickly brought my hand forward for a handshake as he stretched his hand towards me. "The coffee," he said, his voice laced with irritation. "Oh," I sheepishly replied, handing him the coffee. I was embarrassed for behaving so timidly. I stood there watching as he took a sip and buried his head back into the piles of files on his desk. I let out an awkward sound, "mhum mhum," trying to break the silence. Mr. Black lifted his head and ordered me to sit. "I take it you've met Clara?" he asked, referring to his Former PA. I nodded, trying to find my voice. "Then, I'm sure she might have briefed you about your job?" he continued. I nodded again, my palms sweaty as I rubbed them on my skirt. "Words, Miss Grey," he said, his piercing gaze fixed upon me. "Yes, sir," I replied, feeling myself shrinking under his intense scrutiny. "Very well then, you can go," he said tersely. I scrambled out of the door the minute the words left his mouth. I let out a deep sigh as I sat down in my own office. Mr. Black sure had an intimidating presence about him and I needed a moment to collect myself. Throughout the day, I kept myself busy with various tasks. I sorted through files, answered phone calls, checked and replied to emails, and kept Mr. Black informed about upcoming meetings and important matters that required his attention. To be honest, my day felt rather uneventful and dull.
