Fall Rivers high School

 Celestina’s POV

I have never come across a more captivating eye than the wolf in front of me. I tried to back away to prevent my cover from blowing but I was frozen at my spot. He started to move towards me and he was a complete black wolf which means that he was an original descendant wolf. Natalie told me that this town had a werewolf pack but I had no idea that it was an original pack. I have to be aware and conscious about it as the wolves are very territorial and if right now that black wolf decided to hold me captive for getting in their pack territory, my secret will be out in open. I snarled at him baring my canine and started to run in the opposite direction of him. He copied my expression and started to chase me and if I didn’t know better it would look like we were playing in the park-like friends. I used my superpowers to outrun him and I was successful by masking my smell. I transformed to my human form and put on my clothes.

I could feel his confusion in the air as though why my smell was not prominent being the original descendant. That night I took my laptop and started to look up the history of Fall Rivers and werewolves in it. The Blackwood’s pack was the dominant werewolves of this town. The new Alpha has just taken his crown which means that I just met Blackwood Red moon pack’s Alpha because the preceding Alpha had grey eyes in contrast to the green captivating eyes.

I don’t have to sleep necessarily but tonight I especially was wide awake thinking of that musk, eyes, and the ways of escaping from him. I can’t let anyone know that I am a supernatural being. From tomorrow I was going to be the human Celestina Jones. Natalie was going to be there to help me with each step in high school but keeping my power in check was my responsibility. Like other werewolves, I don’t lose my control if triggered or my witch powers don’t blow when I am mad neither do I get any bloodthirst but those are only the cases around the common supernatural beings. An original can easily find out, so I can’t go on a run as a wolf either while I am here.

From the window, I could see that the moon has disappeared and sunlight was about to burst out of the clouds. So, it was only a couple of hours I have to start getting ready for my first day in high school. I slide the curtains on the window to one side and started to sketch the beauty of nature. The river’s light was reflecting with sun rays but my mind kept on drifting to those green eyes and the final sketch had his eyes shining with the morning light and flow of the river. I took a glance at the wall clock and it was already 7 am. So, I decided to continue after school.

I completed my morning routine with a long relaxing shower. I put on a sleeveless top and black jeans with folded ends. I paired my top with a full-sleeved denim jacket and put on sneakers. I never was and will never be good with makeup, so I just combed my hair, applied some tinted moisturizer and tinted lip balm. That was my full make-up; I ruffled my hair and picked up my bag.

In the house, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall were already up and reading newspapers. I greeted them good morning and went to fill the water bottle for the day. With two jobs, I will only be able to return home by later evening.

“Good morning, Celest. Ready for the big day.” I gave him a nervous smile and nodded my head.

“Yes but I am still nervous.” They have been always been like a second parent to me even when we were back in Florida. Mrs. Marshall told me to sit down and brought the breakfast.

“Thank you, Mrs. Marshall.”

“Oh honey, it’s Andrea. I don’t want you to be all formal around us, we are your family.” Andrea and Robert have asked me to call them by their name but I felt awkward. I smiled at them and searched for Natalie.

“She is still having her princess sleep.” I chuckled and ran upstairs to wake her up. She was my ride to the high school and I needed her with me before I face the new crowd of people.

“Hey, sleepyhead get up. It’s time to rise and shine.” I sang along but she just covered her ears with her pillow. I knew what exactly I have to do to wake her up.

“I did my makeup but it doesn’t feel right. Can you help me, Nat?” That got her attention. I have always been resistant to putting on makeup but she always wanted to put some on me. She got up and checked my face thoroughly.

“That’s your makeup?” her face was hilarious at the moment. I laughed hard. “It’s not funny Celest.”

“C’mon it’s a little funny. Now, get up it’s time for school. I don’t wanna be late on the first day.” She looked at me with a scrunched-up nose as to why I was so excited for high school.

She came downstairs looking perfectly groomed with her hair and makeup. I was always shocked by her superpower of getting ready in no time. Who says humans don’t have superpowers?

We all had our breakfast and bid goodbye. Natalie had a car so I took a ride with her. I was yet to get accustomed to the ways of Fall Rivers.

“Do you want me to pick you up?” she asked me.

“No, I don’t know when my shift will end at Mac’s. I will figure out a way and maybe I will buy a bike, it will be easier that way.”

Rest of the way she explained and showed me all the major attractions of the town.

“Celest, don’t you think two jobs are going on take a toll on you?” Natalie asked me.

“Not exactly, the job in the library is relatively easier. It’s good for my studies too.”

“Ok then. Just don’t tire yourself out.” She showed her concern. “Also, I got a job at the beauty salon of the town. I am so excited.” Nat has always been interested in makeup and styling. This work will really suit her.

“Congratulations, Nat.” I wished my best friend a stroke of great luck. With our little chit-chat, we reached near to the parking lot of the Fall Rivers high school.

Starting from today, this is going to be my step for leading a normal teenage life. The students were scattered all around the parking lot frantically walking, running to start the New Year of their high school. The students were divided into groups and the saying, “Birds with same feather flock together” goes well here. The students who were sharply dressed and took care of their fashion sense were in one group greeting each other loudly. They were the popular ones of the high school as well. Then, there were the ones who were moving around with books in their hands and definitely the ones who looked nerdy. I could see other groups who were between these nerds and fashionistas. I had no idea where I would fit or if I could even be one of them.

Loud shrill voices broke my chain of thoughts. I didn’t realize I was staring at the school in wonderment. They were Natalie's friends and I guess I forgot to mention that she was one of the popular girls of the school who was probably going to be the homecoming queen. They all greeted each other a little too loudly.

“Celest, these are my friends and they all are from Fall Rivers. And girls she is Celestina Jones, she will join us here for senior year.”

“Hiiiiii!!!” They all chirped in and introduced themselves to me. The tallest one with blond hair was Candice, and then there were Jennifer and Daniela. They were all humans and appeared to be friendly. Natalie wasn’t one of those girls who were popular and rude but I can’t say the same for other girls. Natalie told them that she would join them later and accompanied me to the reception to get our class schedule.

I choose the subjects Statistics, Biology, Geography, Literature, and Latin language. Also for the extra credit, I had to take gym and I also took some art classes. Nat and I only had Literature and gym in common. The receptionist lady gave me a map and form which I needed to get signed by the dean before going to the class. Nat showed me the office and went to her own class which was at another end of the building. I walked towards the dean’s office and the hallways were getting quieter and quieter as everyone was going to their classes slowly. Since the time I have entered the school premises, I can feel this presence of my own kind all around me. Only yesterday, I came across an original descendant Alpha, and now these smells and whispers of vampires, witches, and werewolves. I am worried now because I had no idea that Fall Rivers was this densely populated with supernatural powers.

I knocked on the door of Dean’s office and heard a ‘come in’ from the other side. I entered the room as there was a sudden drop in the temperature. I took a look at the face of the dean and I knew he was a vampire. I handed him the paper without uttering the word. He took a look at the form and asked me to sit down.

“So, you are the new student. Welcome to Fall Rivers High school, Miss Celestina Jones.”

“Thank you” I glanced at his nameplate and continued, “Mr. Miller.”

“Here is your form.” he handed me back the form and observed me with a scrutinizing eye as if to figure out what I was. “Also if you encounter any problem don’t hesitate to come to me,” he said with a serious expression. I nodded my head and left his office. I let out a breath in relief. He couldn’t figure out that I was a supernatural being, so my spell is working.

First-class was Statistics and then there was Biology. The class was relatively quiet and I was asked to introduce myself and there were a few witches and wizards in Biology class. I maintained my distance from them. There was a boy named Peter who was really friendly. Must say I was able to make a new friend. Natalie has her break after 3rd class so I was in the cafeteria with Peter. He was telling me about the school and his friend Amy also joined us. She was a tiny girl with cute glasses and she was a witch.

“Hi!” I greeted her and she grinned at me. I am going to like her as she was really bubbly. As soon as she joined us she has been chattering to us about what she did for her summer.

“So, Celestina where are you from?” Peter and Amy turned their attention to me.

“I am originally from Florida but here for the final year.” 

“Your folks there in Florida or moved here?” This topic was a sore subject to me.

“They are still there, it’s just me here.” Amy started to talk about how she wants to live on her own and soon she will do it. Suddenly, there was pin-drop silence in the cafeteria. I raised my head to look around me. Amy and Peter also turned their head and looked back at their food with a knowing look.

I was intrigued as I saw a group of boys entering the room and with the musk, I was sure they were the werewolves from the pack of the Fall Rivers.

“Who are they?”  I asked them. Amy looked at me and tried to think of a way to answer my question. She was confused as I was a human so I made that easy for her.

“I know you are a witch.” I whispered to her to avoid Peter from hearing it. Their eyes bulged out in shock and I got that Peter knew about her too.

“Well, they are the popular bad boys of the high school. The guy with the dirty brown hair is the gamma of the pack; Alan Kavinsky. The guy with blonde hair and a neck tattoo is the beta; James Lockhart and…” the guy with the same green eyes entered the room like a king. I was again pulled toward him and his eyes found me.

“He is the Alpha of the Blackwood Red Moon pack; Xavier Blackwood.”
