Extras
"Yeaa...action!"
The director's voice echoed in Rosemary's ears as she waited for her turn to be cast as an extra in a romance film.
As a film star just starting out in the entertainment industry, Rosemary was very lucky to get an extra role right away.
Rosemary did not come from a family of film stars who were already very popular, she was just a teenage girl who was lucky to have a beautiful face and good looks.
A sense of pride came over Rosemary when she got the call that she was going to be signed for a small part, after repeatedly trying out for a role.
Rosemary realised the moment she decided to audition for a role in a film production house that she had to be able to accept whatever kind of role was given to her.
As a beginner, it was too much for her to be picky. Just getting a call for a small part made Rosemary happy. After all, she was neither rich nor from a family with artistic blood. She was just a teenage girl whose dream was to be appreciated by the public.
Her role as the oppressed daughter of a rich man had to be played to perfection. There could be no mistakes if she didn't want to repeat the scene.
The scene Rosemary had to play today was the one where she had to go into the pool because her stepbrother was angry and accused her of stealing his girlfriend.
"You cheap bastard. You obviously know that Fauzan is my boyfriend, but why did you go into his room, huh?" Alya shouted.
"I swear I didn't go into his room, sis. I just came back from school," Dona wailed in a choked voice.
"Do you think I don't see it? Do you think I'm blind?" Alya shouted, pushing Dona's body to the edge of the pool, splashing her.
"Cut!"
The director's voice came back to everyone's relief. At the edge of the pool, several people helped Rosemary, who played the role of Dona, to climb to the top. Her wet body was immediately covered with a thick, wide towel given to her by one of the crew.
"Thank you," Rosemary replied.
Out of the corner of her eye, Rosemary saw Riska, who played Alya, come over. Her beautiful face tried to show a caring attitude when she saw Rosemary's wet state.
"I'm sorry I had to do that. You're not angry with me, are you?" she said as she held out her hand.
"Why should I be angry. We work according to our roles. Unless you did it on purpose," Rosemary replied, taking Riska's hand.
"Thank you," Riska said and walked away, leaving Rosemary to change.
After looking in the mirror and believing that her appearance had improved, Rosemary immediately went to find the director called Danur to ask when she would start filming again.
From a distance, she saw Danur talking to a suave man whom Rosemary already knew because he had given her the contract. Who else but film producer Anggoro Mulya.
"What are they doing, if I meet them I won't disturb them," said Rosemary.
Not wanting to disturb two important people in the film production, Rosemary decided to turn around and meet the main star, Alfaroz Dimitri, who played Fauzan.
"Ah, I thought you had gone home. Are you still filming?" asked Alfaroz kindly.
"No, sis. I'm waiting for Bang Danur," said Rosemary, no less kindly.
"What are you doing waiting for Bang Danur?" said Riska, who had just arrived with a glass of fresh drink.
"I just want to ask if I should come tomorrow or not," replied Rosemary.
"Oh, but it's in your script, isn't it? If it is, then you must come," Riska replied, taking the empty seat next to Alfaroz.
As they spoke, Danur, the person Rosemary had been waiting for, came over to where they were gathered.
His eyes looked at Rosemary with a different expression.
"It seems that this girl can interest him. She's the kind of woman a man would want in his bed," Danur mused without taking his eyes off Rosemary.
"Today's shooting is over, but the boss has asked you all to come to his house tonight." Danur said after his cursory assessment of Rosemary was complete.
"To Mr Anggoro's house? What for?" asked Riska, complaining.
"Tonight the sponsor who is financing the film contacted the boss. He asked to be introduced to all the backers of the film. Any questions?"
Danur's heavy voice as he answered Riska's question silenced the others. Until Rosemary raised her hand.
"Do I have to come as an extra?" asked Rosemary, referring to her role as a minor character.
"Have you signed a contract to be an extra? If so, you must come."
"What if I can't?" Alfaroz's voice sounded defiant.
"I'm sure you're not some yesterday afternoon kid like Rosemary who still needs answers," Danur said, causing some of the extras to complain.
"Why does it have to be so sudden, Bang? Frankly, I have an appointment," said Riska, accusing Danur.
"Do you think you're the only one with an appointment? He's a foreign businessman called Lev Grigory, and he only made the request when he landed in Jakarta. If someone asks, is it important to obey a foreigner? I'd say it's very important. He is the only person who is willing to give his money for the production of this film. Understand?"
"Understood, Bang. What time is it then?" Riska asked again.
"At 7pm. I hope you get there on time!"
Having completed his task of delivering the message from the film's producer, Danur left them, who were also slowly dispersing.
Like the others, Rosemary left the set, but unlike those who left in a luxury car, Rosemary simply walked to the improvised Ojek base, whose existence was very helpful to them, especially Rosemary.
"Eh, where are you going Ros? Aren't you home?" a greeting voice from a car made Rosemary turn around.
She saw a luxury car with its windows open, revealing the face of Anggoro Mulya and a beautiful woman inside.
"I want to buy gado-gado over there, sir," Rosemary pointed to the road at the end of the junction.
"Far?"
"I walk, so I can pass people's houses," Rosemary replied sheepishly.
"Why don't we have lunch at a famous restaurant? It just so happens that the accountant and Desy want to eat," Anggoro invited with seductive eyes.
"Thank you, sir. I have a stomach that can't take salad," Rosemary replied with her head down.
"That's all right if you refuse. If you don't mind, you can rate the gado-gado you ate today tonight," Anggoro ordered sharply before rolling up the window as his car sped away.
Once the car with Anggoro and Mulya was out of sight, Rosemary walked quickly back to the Ojek base.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm such a nobody that it's strange I was there," Rosemary said dreamily to herself.
