Positive; It's Love
It's 3:30 a.m I am waiting for a cab. An hour later, not even a single cab passed by without a passenger and so I panicked at the thought that I am late for my 5 o'clock shift at the hospital. I'm Zarina Stroam, a general doctor at Light Hope Medical Hospital. I had my car broke last time and I had to take a cab for my 5 o'clock shift in the morning. Due to my panic, I called out the car heading in my direction. Fortunately, the car stopped and opened its sire mirror. Without further ado, I told what's my reason upon calling out.
"Please mister, can you take me to Light Hope Medical Hospital? It's a 30 minutes drive from here." I aske
Though the car owner seemed hesitant he still said okay
"Okay, hop in. I know the place," he answered.
I hurriedly and rushed inside the car having a face of relief. As soon as I entered the car, a flashback replayed in my head. It just happened yesterday, I was just signed in when I was called to the intensive care unit because the patient I was monitoring was having shortening of breath. When I went there, I knew that the patient was positive. The patient didn't have a history of asthma, heart, and lung failure. And it was confirmed by the SWAB test result.
I came back to my senses as this good Samaritan that was giving me a ride spoke.
" You seem very troubled. I don't know if I'm just the one who feels awkward with our situation right now
With him telling those, I'm kind of realized that I don't know who's this person I'm with and I'm not sure if I'm in danger or not. But, my doubts went off when he smiled at m
"Anyway, I don't mind you sharing me about your troubles but, you see were already here." good Samaritan sai
When I glanced at the window, we're really in front of the hospital. I took a peek on my wristwatch, it told me that it's already 4:59 am. I immediately got out of the car and said my thanks to the good Samaritan without me knowing who he wa
I was having my lunch at the cafeteria when someone sat in the chair in front of me. He gave me a huge smile.
"You alright Dr. Stroam?" Dr. Mendez asked. Dr. Troy Mendez is my co-doctor and my best budd
"Of course, Dr. Mendez," I answered
"Anyway, have you heard the news about the new doctor coming tomorrow?" he asked
I wasn't able to answer his inquiry. After all, I was called to respond immediately because my patient ran out of breath
When I reached my patient's room, I directed the nurse to put an inhaler and connect it to the oxygen tank. After a while, my patient's breath became steady. Coronavirus still doesn't have a vaccine. The only thing to consider was making the patient's immune system healthy and strong. I gave my patient vitamins and some food supplement to help her condition
I'm glad that my car has been fixed and save me the trouble of waiting for a cab early in the morning. When I reached the hospital, Troy welcomed me. He was once again talking about the new doctor.
During lunchtime, while I was eating, Troy once again sat at the seat in front of me. I just focused on eating because I felt empty knowing I skipped breakfast. But somehow he got my attention
"Hey Zarina, I want you to meet someone," he said
"Who is it?" I asked upon raising my head.
The sight that welcomed me was the good Samaritan who gave me a ride yesterday
"It's you!" I said, shocked.
"I also remembered you," he sai
Troy thought that we knew each other so I told what happened yesterday. I knew it's kind of embarrassing but that's what happened. I found the good samaritan's name was Dr. Gray Buenaventura.
Few months passed and the cases of Corona Virus rapidly rising. Gray and I got close. Until such time he decided to court me, I refused and tell that I don't believe in love because if my parents' history, they broke up when I was 11 years old because my father had a mistress and so my mother and ai left him, but upon hearing the story behind why I don't want to have a relationship with anyone, he still pursued on courting me. But nothing changed between me and Gray except for that kind of special treatment but despite that, I still consider him as my good frien
Troy and I were eating our lunch, usually Gray would eat with us, but not today. He somehow was sort of busy because he was handling more patients under monitoring.
After eating I ordered another meal, I thought of bringing it to Arthur's office because it bothers me thinking that he might not be eating well in time, and he might get sick. I knocked on the door of Grays but not a single soul answered. The door wasn't locked so I decided to enter. I just leave the meal I brought and just put a note with it. As I put the food on his table, his mobile phone beeps. I knew that it's bad to invade someone's privacy but I'm kinda curious at the moment. His phone has no password, so manages to open it. The message that I had just read, somehow broke my heart into pieces. I don't know why, but then I realized that it's positive I am falling in love with him and I didn't even notice. I'm feeling lost right now, I didn't expect that this day would come the I will fall in love with someone but it seems too late for me to confess, he already has a baby. I was about to leave but Gray just came in.
" Zarina, why are you crying?" he asked while holding my shoulder.
"Nothing, I just suddenly feel tired" I replied and smile bitterly." Dr. Gray Buenaventura I'll go then I had something urgent to do.
"Wait," he said
Upon sitting on the chair near his table Dr. Gray somehow feel strange because his phone changed its position and there's food on his table. Then he guesses that I'm the one who brought the food for him I can see on his face that he's happy, and suddenly he asked me what makes me cry but I refused to answer, he grabbed his phone from his table and upon opening it he guessed I read the messages on his phon
"Sorry Dr. Gray I didn't mean it, it's my fault for invading your privacy. I have to go, by
"Look, Zarina I can explain," he told m
But my system failed me to answer him because it suddenly blackens. I fainted
When I opened my eyes, the blinding light had welcomed me. I closed my eyes again and reminisced what just had happened. I can't take the pain that I'm feeling in my heart and some parts of my body. I feel that I'm so vulnerable right now
Then the door opened revealing that Troy was about to enter. He was wearing a smile, a weak smile
"Troy, what happened?" I aske
"Zarina, I knew that you had a clue of what's going on," he sai
"I'm positive," I confirmed.
He nodded. I wanted to cry but I think my body was tired of doing something.
"Don't worry, we will work on it. You're strong right?" he aske
I just nodded.
Days passed and I was given the medication that positive patient's that were taking. Days turned to weeks, many had visited me, my co-doctors but no Gray came up. And then, weeks turned to a whole month. I'm fighting and winning against the virus. I'm virus-free now but another virus was attacking me. A virus of longingness. Not a single visit from him made me sick agai
As I woke up the next day, when I was confirmed virus-free, darkness welcomed me. I stood up, looking for the switch. As I found it, I switched it on. When the room was fully illuminated I was surprised because my room was decorated and there my co- doctors stood in the corner wearing big smile
"What's the meaning of these guys?" I asked.
They said their congratulations to me that I had won my battle against the virus. We can't have a party here, you know and my co-doctors also had to attend to their patients so after they congratulate me on my victory they leave. Except for Troy who has been with me battling with the virus. But Gray still nowhere to be found. He opened a topic that was always been throughout the whole episode.
"I know you're curious about Gray but first, let me asked you this. Do you love him?" he ask
I burst into tears. God knew I already had a feeling for him too and missed him so much. But there was a heavy part of my heart. He already had a girl, that's the only reason why he never visited. That's what I had read on the message on his phone before.
"Your tears told me the answer," he said
He hugged me. I don't know if Troy wasn't around. He's always there, my best buddy and a big brother
"Zarina, would you mind visiting another patient of mine?" he aske
Though I'm confused, I came with Troy visiting his patient.
We got out of my room. I thought the patient was far but turned out it was just beside my room. He opened the door, he motioned me to follow so I did.
The patient that was on my sight shocked the whole out of me. He was thin but I still recognized him. I covered my mouth in disbelief as tears falling endlessly in my eyes. The patient was Gray
"Do you remember, the day you fainted inside the office of Dr.Gray?" he asked m
"Yes" I nodded
"You know what Zarina when you fainted Dr.Gray got panicked he forgot what to do all he did is to lift you and call for help," he sai
"Really? Is that what happened?" I replied.
"Sure it is"I can tell that he loves you" he replied to me.
"How could I give him a chance if he had already a girlfriend troy, for now, what I want to do is to take care of him to show my gratitude for helping me. The reason why he's in that bed right now"I replied with a low voic
Upon hearing what Troy told me that while I was fighting with the virus, Gray was fighting as well since he has close contact with me and so he was been SWAB and it was confirmed that's why he's confined every day he would ask Troy my situation but he refused to take any medication. He said to Troy not to bother informing me of his situation. But now that I had recovered, Troy can't hide it anymore for he knew I would discover it sooner or late
I was back at work. I plead with Troy to let me handle Gray and so he did. After a few weeks, Gray slowly regained his weight. He would tell me he loved me as always. And there's a heavy part in my told me this is wrong
A month after, I came across the counter. There was this lady who was giving a commotion to the nurses. The nurse called up to me that the lady wanted to see m
I faced the lady. She cried and begged me to let her see Gray. She told me that she was also a doctor and presented licensed. I knew that she also knew the protocol. I hesitated, but I let her. I joined her in Grays' room wearing our protective gear. Gray was awoken
"Ashley, what are you doing here?" Gray aske
Look, baby, I was worried about you." the lady sai
"Uhm, maybe I should leave," I sai
"No, please stay right here Zarina., he sai
Gray stops me from leaving and I can't dare but follow what he sai
"Oh, she was Zarina I was looking forward to meeting you." the lady sai
I found out the lady was Gray's elder sister. Whom the message I had read before was from her that was telling him to have a safe trip home and brought her something to eat.
I realized that I wasn't giving Gray chance to explain what I had just read before because as he started to explain I would just leave his room. I feel embarrassed right now but at the same time, a heavy burden that I brought this whole time flee
One morning, I was visiting Gray. I opened the door but instead of finding Gray, a nurse was folding the sheets of the blanket.
"Nurse, where's the patient here?" I asked
"He's in the morgue Dr. Zarina." the nurse answered.
A heavy feeling hugged me. He was already recovering. He even regained his health .
My tears were falling while I was running towards the morgue. As I opened the morgue, the usual atmosphere of the morgue was now different. Balloons and flowers are everywhere, like today's Valentine's da
"Troy, what's this?" I asked.
"You'll know, but anyways congratulations!" he said.
I was confused, I tried to ask but he left me. He joined the other doctors at the corner. Then the curtain opened, revealing Gray. He walked slowly, he was no longer wearing his hospital gown. He stood in front of me and then, kneeled down extending his arm and hold my hand then.
"I'm an extremely sorry doctor that I didn't wait for you to discharge me. I'm asking your forgiveness," he sai
"It's alright Gray," I said.
"Then let me proceed, would you still stay taking care of me as my girlfriend?" he aske
The cheering was already rising from my co-doctors. I started to cry because I was overwhelmed.
"Hey, I'm sorry. I don't mean for you to cry," he said.
"I'm okay, you know. I'm just happy." I said.
"I'm glad you're an okay baby. What's your answer then?" he asked. He's having a cheeky wide smile no
"Of course, my answer is positive!" I answered.
A year and a half after the Corona Virus outbreak a lot happened to me. I don't even to found my other half on the verge of the pandemic. But I'm so thankful that he came. He brought happiness to me.
