Chapter Thirty

1092 Words
Who is this girl? And why are they meeting here outdoors where no one is here other than the two of them and me secretly watching them from the nearest columbar? I could feel my heartstrings tightening from the scene that was slowly unfolding in front of me. My heart is breaking from the thought that the Crown Prince is seeing another woman and I wanted to show up to them badly, right now, just to assert my position in Prince Kao's life. But that would be too ambitious. I know what will happen if I show up to them right now so I just hid behind the towering columbar and watch them closely from here. I saw Prince Kao getting closer to where the woman was standing, waiting for him. This woman looked young, so I assume she is in the same age bracket as the Crown Prince. She also looks regal and rich with her outfit, so I believe that she's one of those sophisticated girls that came from prominent families who own huge businesses in Aurville or in other towns. I heard Prince Kao chuckle at something that the woman said to him. I can't hear what she was saying but she was definitely flirting with the Crown Prince. She was smiling like an infatuated teenager in front of the Crown Prince and it took me my whole physical strength to stop myself from throwing random rocks at her. "That's amazing. I will check it out," I heard the Crown Prince said to this flirty girl which made her giggle. I hated this girl already. I don't know who she is but she's already getting on my nerves. Her giggles irritated me because that was not necessary while talking to the Crown Prince. But she was trying so hard to get his attention. "You should visit me there," I finally heard her say, and I almost laughed out loud when I heard her unnatural high-pitched voice. She sounded like a little girl squealing and I covered my mouth with my hands to stop myself from bursting out laughing. "You already promised! I hope you go there! I will be waiting for you, Prince Kao!" Prince Kao? Did she just call him that? Who is this girl? I don't like her the longer she exists in this world! They exchanged small talks and pleasantries and I could already tell that Prince Kao wanted to go but was just too polite to dismiss this girl so I gathered my remaining courage to walk up to them. I cleared my throat when I reached where Prince Kao was standing and his eyes widened with shock when he turns around to see me. I knew that he almost mentioned my name but was lucky enough to stop himself. "Excuse me for disturbing you, Your Highness, and you too, Madame, but I just want to relay to you the message that Madame Morris gave to you, Your Highness." "Oh, can't it wait?" said the girl to me who obviously was irritated that they were interrupted by a mere court servant. But Prince Kao looked at me with a meaningful stare and then asked me. "What is it?" I made up a lie. "Madame Morris told me to get you because it's the time for your music lessons. The teacher is already waiting for you at the music hall." Prince Kao's eyebrows rose at that because obviously, what I just said was a fat lie. There is no one waiting for him and his music lessons are not yet scheduled for today. I was already sweating inside from the fear of what I have done. I knew that this was something that I am not allowed to do and normally this would put me in jail because this kind of attitude is not allowed to court servants like me. But thankfully, the Crown Prince did not seem to get angry at what I was currently doing. In fact, he looks like he was amused at something and I just hoped that he finds it in his heart to forgive me for interrupting him. "Is that so? Then I guess Is hall go to the music hall," he said to me and then faced the girl again. "I'm sorry, Millicent, I am going to have my music lessons. Let's just talk again some other time..." The girl looked disappointed but she smiled sweetly too. "Oh, it's okay! It's no big deal! Just come to our house if you have time and I'll show you around!" Prince Kao nodded at that suggestion. And then he bid her goodbye and he walked away, leaving the girl outside in the snow-covered garden. He walked fast and briskly so it made my heart pound on my chest because that could only mean one thing. And what was scarier was that we were actually heading to the music hall which I know was now closed." "Uhm... Your Highness---" "It's just the two of us, so you can call me Prince Kao," he said immediately and that made my nervousness doubled. After one corridor, we finally reached the music hall. Its ceiling-high door was closed so Prince Kao had to pull out a key from his pockets which surprised me because he was the key with him all the time? The door opened and he went inside first and then I followed when I saw him look at me with a broad smile. "Come in. Don't worry, I am not going to scold you, Rainha." He then closed the door again and locked it after I went inside. It was creepy in here because it was both cold and dark then his voice reverberated in this empty room that is as big as the main hall of the castle. "Uhm, I'm so sorry for lying---" "You surprised me there, Rainha. Why did you do that?" he asked and I know that this was like sitting on the hot seat. But still, I won't admit my feelings towards him. Not now, not here. "Uhm, I was just trying to protect you---" "Protect me? From Millicent?" He was not angry at me, just confused, I guess. Maybe he could not think of a logical reason of why I did what I did, and even I could not think of anything other than the possibility that I was jealous. I was jealous. That's the reality that I have to admit to myself. "Uhm... I was just---" "Tell me, Rainha, are you jealous?"
