Chapter 2: Meeting the Alpha King

1331 Words
Three years later. One thing that I’ve learned these last three years is that purpose feels so much better than love. I hold the human heart in my hands and feel it start to beat again. All the nurses start clapping around me. I take a shuddering breath as I slowly let go. In the human world, I was becoming one of the most famous doctors in Chicago. I quickly became Dr Albert, the head of the Chicago medical department's prodigy overnight since I started my studies. I have known everything that I needed to know about the medical field since I was fifteen years old, and I knew that when I asked to do all my classes in one year and my practicals, people would think I was an overachiever. But I didn’t care, I wanted to save lives, and finally, I was experiencing it all. Packs would call more and more all around the world and fly me in for help and to train their pack doctors and I had become quite known in the human world. I wasn’t just the best in my country. I was the best in the world. Well, that’s what my father says everyone is saying. Fingers crossed it’s true though. As I wash my hands and take off my scrubs, I feel hands caressing my sides. “Michael, what do you think you're doing?” I say and turn around, and fold my arms. Michael is a gorgous young neuron surgeon that just transfered from New York. He’s incredible with his hands and not just in the operating room. “Well, I’m trying to convince this sexy woman who just beat the record for the fastest heart transfer surgery in the world to meet me in the janitor’s closet for just a few minutes so I can show her how much I worship her,” he says, and I can’t help the blush that creeps in my cheeks. This human was by far my favourite distraction when I wasn’t working. “Give me five minutes,” I say and give him a quick kiss on the cheek before anyone sees. When I go take a shower and hear my beaper go off I suddenly get a very uneasy feeling. My wolf also suddenly felt agitated. My phone rings as I see I’m needed on the roof. The helicopter will be here in ten minutes with the patient. I get dressed and feel my phone ringing in my pocket. I look at the caller ID and can’t help, but feel my heart skip a beat when I see it’s Alpha David. “Hi Alpha David,” I say as I wait for the elevator. “Meira, I’m glad you answered.” I had missed many of his calls in the past and with good reason I wanted to forget what happened. Love is a weakness and I will never be weak like that night three years ago. I was a child then, but now I was a woman. A woman with a purpose and no one could take that away from me. Danny had tried many times to contact me, but I had blocked him on everything. He would become Alpha this year and I knew after that I had to leave the pack completely. If he wouldn’t allow it, I would become a rogue and that was a sacrifice I was willing to make. “What can I help you with Alpha? I have a patient coming in in approximately seven minutes,” I say and start pushing the button again. Why was the elevator taking so long? “That is why I’m calling you,” he says with a voice I’ve never heard him use before. “What or who is it?” I say and he is quiet for a moment. “It’s the Alpha Kings human girlfriend. They tried doing the mating ritual and she was too weak after having chemo for the last couple of months.” I feel my whole body go rigid. The Alpha king ruled all the packs across the world and was staying in New York to get his human lover the best medical treatments possible. I had heard rumors he wanted to do the mating ritual with her. I’ve heard stories of it working in the past, but the human had to be strong enough to become a host. With host I mean, they must be strong enough to survive the wolf blood that will destroy all their normal human cells. “What is her status?” I ask and Alpha David clears his throat. “The Alpha king Beta called me personally asking for you to be on stand by if the surgery failed. Knowing you come from our pack. I told him to take her to Chicago, because if anyone can save her it’s you.” “Alpha David I appreciate the trust you have in me, but no one has ever survived a failed transition?” “Just try, please he’s desprate and just be careful you know how dangerous a desperate wolf can be. If you fear for your life just try to get away as fast as possible and come home.” I get goosebumps. “I’ll be careful, thank you Alpha,” I say and as the elevator finally opens I hear Danny’s voice in the background asking if he could speak to me. “I need to go, I’ll keep you updated Alpha,” I say and hear a little commotion on the other side of the line. “Thank you Meira.” The helicopter lands and as I rushed to the door with our emergency medical team on stand by. I suddenly have the weirdest sensation hit me and I hold my head for a moment to ground myself. The helicopter's door isn’t where it’s suppose to be. It looks like it’s been torn off it’s handles and the scene that welcomes me is horrifying. All the medics that was on the helicopter are bleeding and screaming pointing to the man with his back to me holding a woman that is staring at me over his shoulder. The is blood coming out of her eyes as she stares at me, mouthing the words, “Help me.” “Everyone, get out of the helicopter now!” I shout, and my team grabs everyone they can. Michael is suddenly at my side grabbing my hand. “Wait Meira, this man is dangerous he did this to all these people!” He shouts at me over the wind, but I can’t take my eyes off of the woman. “I need to try and help her!” I shout back and square my shoulders. “Michael you have to get these people out of here and into the ER! They need help!” He pauses with a faint smile on his lips as I finally look at him. One second he’s looking at me the next the life leaves his eyes as a hand suddenly rips through his chest holding his heart. I don’t even have time to scream as my eyes meet the Alpha Kings. The first time I felt a bond snap in place it was broken so quick that I couldn’t really feel it or understand it. As I meet his eyes it feels like every cell in my body is being pulled towards him. Screaming to be touched and marked by him. I feel everything all at once. His golden yellow eyes study me as the wind rips through my hair. He’s hair falls across his eyes, but it doesn’t break his stare. He is bare chested, barefoot and only wearing ripped suit pants and all of him is covered in blood. The blood makes me snap out of the trance realising everyone around me is dead. His voice sounds like a trans as he steps towards me and says, “She’s dead.”
