Chapter 3

1056 Words
"Seriously! You parked your car there?" What is wrong with that? Are they kidding? I mean I just parked my car where I wasn't supposed to but Jeez! They're making it a big thing. Max is a normal human just like us. He'll just get over it, with all the me paying for it stuff. Hah, I guess he already has. That billionaire, right in front of my eyes has no shame. "It's nothing Rose, and someone needs to remind him that people are eating here," I utter as I manage to swallow my bite. There are a few more girls sitting with us, and they're literally drooling on the floor whilst watching him. "Do ya even know how much it means when he literally pays attention to a girl? I mean I would do anything to change places with that blonde prick he is talking to," one of the many girls sitting around the table speaks. She has a round pace, and sharp features. "Seriously? He's not that hot," I tell them while my eyes perform a 180. All the heads shot up in my direction and my brows furrow in the middle. Ever so slowly, I follow their eyes, turning around in my seat. "Who's not that hot?" Oh my God, this is so embarrassing. What is he even doing here? "What do you want?" I scowl. I know all the girls here are probably giving me a dirty look but right now my eyes and brain is focused on this man. He sits down next to me, and leans forward on the table. "You look damn cute when you blush." What! I grit my teeth. "Are you crazy?" I bellow angrily. He throws his stupid head back on a bark of laughter, clearly finding this situation very amusing, while, I, on the other hand am a mass of annoyance. “Don’t flatter yourself. That wasn’t a compliment.” “Okay,” I say, dragging the word for some exaggeration. “I know what a prick you are, so I didn’t get my hopes up.” WHAT! That came out so wrong, oh God. “I mean, there’s nothing I expect from you. Actually, wait, I do expect something from you.” His eyes dance with delight. Those lips curl upwards into a half smile. “Yeah, and what’s that?” “To leave me alone.” The bell rings, cutting any further bickering that was to take place between us. Considering it is literally my first day here, the day has been very busy. The tables start to empty, the noises fade away into muffled whispers. Everyone is heading off to their classes. . . Except for Max. “Don’t you have classes to attend?” I ask, wanting to be far away from this messed up boy. Taking the last bite of my burger, I hoist myself up from the spot. When I catch him staring at me, I half expected him to look away, or maybe just get uneasy, but his gaze doesn’t weaver. He lazily drums his fingers on the table. It is pretty obvious I won’t be getting a reply. Swinging my bag over my shoulder, I walk away from him, quickening my pace with every step that separates us. Thanks for making me uncomfortable, Max Davis. ------- When I got home the following day, Hailey wasn’t home. My stomach growled with hunger. I kicked off my shoes before making my way inside our rented apartment. The kitchen was to my left, waiting for me to devour whatever contents it held. Without getting fresh from visiting the bathroom first, I listened to my heart after a very long time, and sat on the stool, reaching for the jar of peanut butter resting on the counter, tempting me to dip my fingers in twist it inside. I wish someone would look at me the way I gawk at peanut butter. My phone chimed inside my bag. I got out of my reverie, sighing in exhaustion as I fished for my phone. The caller read Rose. She is in my physics class, a very decent and sophisticated human with a good sense of humor. We exchanged numbers, so I could copy down some of her notes she’s send me through the internet. Even though she told me about Max, spilled some tea, she even was like, ‘I don’t really know much about him’. “Hi,” I greeted. Her squeal would definitely echo in my head later. “OH MY GOD! Guess what!” Considering we literally just met today, she is a very jolly person. “What?” I asked, puzzled. Had she won a lottery or something? “Samuel invited me to his birthday party which is tonight!” I was at a loss of words. How was I supposed to react to this when I didn’t even have any idea who this Sam guy was. “Yay,” I fake cheered. At least I tried. She let out a grumpy noise. “You should be excited because I asked him if you could come and he said yes.” Oh no. . . “Rose, why would you do that? I don’t even know these people. I don’t even know you,” I tried to reason. “You could be a serial killer for all I know.” Her laugh somehow sounded genuine. “Don’t worry. I don’t kill a pretty face like yours.” “Right.” “Are you mad that I told him about you?” I played with the jar. “I’m not mad. . . just. . . look I don’t wanna be a third wheel or something. And besides I don’t own any party worthy clothes.” Because I don’t go to parties, I stop myself from telling. I’d rather be silent than make a fool of myself. “Then we’re going shopping. Text me your address. This topic has officially been closed for any further arguments.” She proved it by cutting the call.
