The Rejection
The whole pack watched me, they were already watching me and i knew it as soon as i walked into the middle of the moonstone clearing, surrounded by silver lanterns and by the pack wolves all in black ceremonail attire. Tonight was supposed to be the happiest night of my life. Tonight was supposed to be the night I turn twenty one.
Tonight was supposed to be the night that I found my mate.
Now I was going to be disgraced. I gripped the fabric of the dress, my wolf whimpered against me "stop shaking" She ordered me. "I am not". "You are".
I swallowed.
Standing at the far side of the clearing was the imposing alpha kail draven, he’d arrived 10 minutes earlier but that all it had taken for the vibe of the place to flip. Kael draven the Alpha of shadow fang pack... The strongest pack in the northern territory.
Rarely did he ever attend ceremonies and if he did... Well werewolves seemed to get out of his way rather than annoy him. He stood a good inch taller than any of the surrounding males..
All dressed in a dark colored suit except him with his black hair windswept.
Then Kael looked at me, the gaze like steel Grey yet so intense I thought I would break under it. My wolf froze for a split second, then screamed a word in my head.
MATE!.
My heart stopped.
No.
I looked at Kael, his eyes widened in an instant. His shoulders stiffened and his nostrils flared. He had felt it to the bond hit the two of us as hard as a physical blow nearly causing me to lose control over myself and I buckled to my knees.
Murmurs spread through the wolves "its the alpha". "She cant be..." "the Alpha's mate..." "She's liana Vale" and "That cant be possible".
I barely heard any of them...
I could only see Kael. He walked towards me. 1 step. 2 steps. 3 steps. Each step caused the bond between us to tighten until it felt like a vise grip crushing against my chest my wolf was struggling under me "Go to him" she whimpered I couldn't he was too close I could smell him... Cedar and frost.
I looked up into his eyes...
One flicker of an emotion crossed his face one I could have sworn was vulnerabilty, then it was gone. "Liana Vale" I could feel my heart beat like a drum against my ribs. "Yes".
He jaw tightened. "Do you accept me as your mate?". My gaze remained fixed upon his as though the answer should be obvious but something was wrong.
Something was very wrong.
His wolf... It was resisting him, I could feel its struggles against his control, he wanted to be here... Wanted to feel my body against his but Kael looked as though he was ready for a war "I...". My voice hitched as I felt my wolf buck violently beneath me.
Then Kael's face solidified.
"No". The word hit me like a slap. "What".
His face was void of any expression as though no emotion would cross it for the rest of his days. "I reject you as my mate" A sharp intake of breath spread through the wolves as I stumbled back and my wolf screamed. Pain shot through me.
"You can't".
Kael's jaw clenched "I just did". The bond tightened, burning me from the inside until it felt as though it was being ripped in two I fought back tears, I would not cry here in front of him, in front of these wolves. "You're lying" I said weakly Kael winced at my words but did not deny them then I noticed something flash across his eyes, Fear. Not disgust, or hate just pure out of this world fear.
"Liana.....
Please don't" he asked quietly. "You can't reject me then go tell me how to act Kael!". My voice cracked.
His hand trembled and stopped just before touching my face. "I had no choice". "Then tell me what your choice was".
"I can't".
I let out a bitter laugh. Of coarse he couldn't. The strong alpha couldn't even explain why he just ripped me into shreds in front of his whole pack "your pathetic". A murmur spread through the room Kael's eyes flashed, his wolf suddenly surged behind him enough to make the males next to us take a step back but he brought her under control just as quickly, he didn't lunge towards me "I'm protecting you" "From what".
Silence.
"KAEL!".
His eyes burned into mine "From me." He turned his back on me and then something impossible happened the pain I felt through my chest ceased and a subtle silver symbol glowed on my wrist.
Kael froze and slowly turned back around his face a pale grey "what is that" he asked Kael my eyes shifted to the symbol on my wrist "I don't know" his wolf growled again.. Not softly or threateningly... It growled with pure, untainted rage.
Kael took one step towards me, then his eyes fixed upon my wrist, they shifted...
Totally completely changed. He whispered words I can barely make out "No..." "What" Kael stared at my wrist with a horrified look on his face "You're not supposed to exist"
