Chapter Two: A Breeder For The Alpha
“You may now kiss the bride,” Alexander’s voice croaked through their previously independent lives, nudging them to be dependent on each other’s love and affection; an Alpha and his Luna, a man and his wife; a yin and his yang, two sides of a coin.
…And even though she wasn’t the one his heart wanted, his wolf was listening to Alexander’s instruction and learning to grow in tune with her. It was ready to be fragile and vulnerable around her. To create the most elegant romance seen in the entire black diamond pack.
As they kissed, performing their first marital rite in front of the entire pack, under the Pack’s ancestral Magnolia tree, smoothly bending and curving their noses to each get a good grasp of the other’s lips, Phil felt his ears shift. His wolf wanted to be involved in this part too.
But his wolf wasn’t the only one. Her wolf seemed to have felt the same impulse and made its way to the surface, making her ears shift too. The only part of her body that had ever shifted. This was a sign of the things to come. This union already looked promising, and Phil hoped it would give him the much-needed respite from the incessant nagging of the GPC members.
“That’s my boy!” Ray Hammerstock echoed from his comfy position. Who would not be proud of their son in a moment like this? Phil had taken the step. It was now left for the moon goddess to complete his Alpha chakra, and unleash the beast within.
The journey back to their new matrimonial home was smooth and uneventful for most of the way.
The Black Diamonds were an influential bunch of business moguls and Ship captains by day and wolves by night, minding their rich shifting heritage, so they had access to a fleet of the best cars. Phil and Vera, riding in the same limousine, had little to say to each other throughout the journey. There was nothing much to say. Today marked the beginning of whatever was to come.
Vera Alonso of the almost vanquished Watergate Pack, now Vera Phil, Luna to the Alpha of the Black Diamond pack, was not used to all the ceremonies of a typical black diamond wedding. She was already exhausted, and he let her sleep on his shoulders all the way home, stroking her hair gently as the car veered into the path through the woods that led to their new cottage mansion. If they were going to be Alpha and Luna, then stroking her hair was one of the many things he needed to adjust himself.
He lifted her gently, almost jealously, out of the car and into their home. As he did, a faint smile glazed through her sleeping pretty face. She seemed to know, even in her sleep, that she was getting all the care she never had. And even though the circumstances that were now making her Luna of the Black Diamond pack weren’t what she envisioned in her fairy tale stuck head, this here was something she could live with.
“What you ask is almost difficult, but not entirely impossible,” Cassie spoke in her usual soft, enticing tone. Even though she was old, she retained her ability for subtlety.
“I have a niece,” Cassie says, pausing to scan the desperation on this Alpha’s face. This was Phil’s first time meeting her, and she was already living up to her reputation in the black market- “subtle, intelligent, greedy, and stubborn.”
His deep contact with the black market had informed him earlier about her. “You must be careful when you are with her or she will take advantage of your desperation, and offer you a not-so-great deal.”
“So, what about your niece?” Phil said.
“She fits the role you need, will give you no issues, and will bend to your every desire. But she has a little anomaly”
“What anomaly, and how can it be fixed? Is there no other female in the pack” Phil replied, his voice betraying his desperation.
He had just three weeks until the GPC’s deadline for finding a Luna, and according to his contacts in the black market, Cassie Alonso of the Almost vanquished Watergate pack was his best shot at getting one.
“She has not been able to wolf out since attaining full circle. An alpha like you deserves…”
“I’ll have her like that,” Phil heard himself say, he wasn’t sure whether he was the one talking or it was the desperation.
“I’ll have her for myself. As long as she can give me an heir.”
Cassie chuckled softly. She had yet again cut a great deal for herself. Marrying off her almost useless wolfless niece to the Alpha of the revered Black Diamond pack. ‘Bravo, Cassie, Bravo!’
“You know where to drop off the middleman fee, and your relationship will be sorted out with her. This is what she looks like” Cassie airdropped her niece’s photo to Phil, paying attention to the satisfactory crease that rose and fell along his forehead. The lady in the picture had the physical qualities that suited an Alpha like him. And she had the same dentition as Lucy. So he wasn’t going to miss her after all.
Their first date happened most ordinarily.
“Hi, my name is Vera. I was told, I’d meet you here,” Vera spoke first, drawing his attention to the confidence in her voice. He was impressed but dared not show her. She was just an arranged love affair, and he wasn’t going to let himself flirt so much on their first meeting.
They had to make the members of his pack who followed him believe that everything started naturally.
“What would you have?” Phil asked, wanting to lead the conversation.
“Since you asked, I’ll have a dry martini.” Vera, though wolfless, sure knew how to get the man she wanted.
“Join me for a dance…”
